Radio over Fiber (RoF) emerges as a promising candidate for 5G networks, particularly in cloud radio access network (CRAN) systems, where centralized signal processing offers reduced latency and enhanced transfer speeds. Millimeter Waves (mmWave) are gaining attention for their potential in high-capacity, long-range communication systems, further fueling the 5G revolution. This research proposes a design employing a 4×1 RoF scheme using Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) with Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) as a dispersion compensator. Simulation results demonstrate the viability of both downstream and upstream configurations, meeting International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Standards for Q Factor and Bit Error Rate (BER). While challenges such as signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) decline with transmission distance persists, strategic system design and component selection is essential for mitigating these issues, ensuring optimal performance in 5G networks. © 2024 IEEE.

The demand for a better and more capable telecommunication system continues to increase as other technologies advance. Telecommunication systems are facing a major problem in order to achieve higher capacity. To address this problem, a more capable system with higher capacity, yet reliable is required. This research offers a solution to this problem by improving the Fiber-FSO system using WDM technology. The key is to achieve larger capacities using multiple canals in the WDM method. This research proposes the usage of the 4 canal WDM component (193.1-193.4 THz) for the Fiber-FSO system. The design of the WDM Fiber-FSO system using EDFA and FBG proposed in this research reaches up to 80 Gb/s of data rate. This result is significantly higher when compared to other regular Fiber-FSO systems. One of many implementations of this system is the interbuilding communication system. For this implementation, a long-range system is necessary. This research provides an interbuilding communication system with fiber optic range extending up to 10 km per side and FSO media range reaching up to 10 km. The performance of the system will be measured mainly using the Q factor and minimum BER. At normal attenuation of 1 dB/km, the proposed design system reaches the best result averagely when given 10 dBm of power input. The average performance result in this scenario reaches Q Factor 6.78 on average. This performance result is in accordance with the standard given for the proposed design with the Q factor that requires the value of 6. The proposed design will be tested in several weather conditions in metropolitan cities, with attenuation in the FSO media reaching 20 dB/km for the worst conditions. The result of the design test under several conditions shows that the system will need to sacrifice the FSO media range as conditions worsen to achieve acceptable results. © 2024 IEEE.

This research addresses the surge in global bandwidth demand triggered by digitalization, focusing on the necessity of bidirectional TWDM PON technology for highspeed internet access in industrial zones. The objective involves the design of a TWDM-PON network with an asymmetric data rate protocol, a 1:64 splitter ratio, four spectrum channels, and a minimum distance of 40 km. The proposed design follows ITUT G. 9804 standards and simulation using OptiSystem. This study evaluates downstream and upstream schemes. The integration of an erbium-doped fiber amplifier enhances downstream and upstream performance, while a semiconductor optical amplifier improves upstream results. The effects of dispersion compensation fiber on dispersion compensation are also scrutinized in this research. © 2024 IEEE.

The demand for Internet network services will continue to grow as the population increases. With this growth, there is a greater need for increased bandwidth. This paper discusses a proposed design of an XGS-PON (10 Gigabit Symmetrical Passive Optical Network) FTTH access network for Pesona Kahuripan 3, Bogor, West Java, including calculations and analysis of the link power budget, rise time budget, BER, and Q factor to assess the viability of the proposed design. The design considers a cascade of high split ratios in ODC and ODP to increase user capacity. The result shows that the proposed FTTH design achieved all parameters in splitter ratio 1:256 with the received power of -24.090 dBm and -23.803 dBm for uplink and downlink, respectively, higher than the minimum required value of -29 dBm. The rise time system for uplink is 0.264 ns, and for downlink it is 0.265 ns, which is lower than the NRZ requirement value of 0.7 ns. BER for upstream is 2.93 × 10-15, and for downstream it is 2.274 × 10-18, which is lower than 10-9. These results indicate that the proposed network can be implemented using a high splitting ratio of 1:256. © 2024 IEEE.

Vibration signals typically contain a wealth of information on equipment status, making them widely used in the fault diagnosis for transformers. However, electrical faults, especially early-stage inter-turn short circuit faults are not characterized on vibration signals, which causes difficulties in precisely identifying the signals. To solve this issue, a dual attention-based neural network is proposed in this paper. A novel attention mechanism (AM) called similarity attention (SA) is designed in this network. It is then embedded in a convolutional neural network (CNN) with the conventional channel attention (CA) to form a dual-attention module (DAM). This module uses multi-channel receptive fields to automatically extract fault features from vibration signals. It subsequently expands and adaptively weights each receptive field and channel through the SA and CA blocks. By using the DAM, the unobvious fault-related features can be extracted effectively. Finally, these features are input into an eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) classifier to achieve high-accuracy fault detection. The effectiveness of the method is verified using a 50 kVA traction transformer experimental platform. Moreover, the superiority of this method has been compared with other methods. The comparison results indicate that the proposed method can successfully categorize various early-stage faults with an accuracy rate of over 96% and unaffected by load fluctuations. © 2023 IEEE.

The advancement toward fifth-generation (5G) networks heralds a transformative era in the mobile sector, poised to revolutionize various intelligent automation applications and the Internet of Things (IoT), With its rapid connectivity and minimal latency, 5G is a crucial driver for innovations in IoT, AI, autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, and beyond. Millimeter wave (mmWave) technology is emerging as a key enabler for 5G, offering high-capacity, high-mobility, and long-range communication capabilities. Among the potential of 5G, Radio over Fiber (RoF) technology emerges as a solution to address the demands of 5G by seamlessly integrating wireless communication with optical fiber transmission systems, offering bandwidth, transmission capacity, and economic benefits. Evaluating critical parameters such as the Q factor, bit error rate (BER), and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) over optical spans up to 20 km, the study highlights the importance of semiconductor optical amplifier integration (SOA). The incorporation of SOA as a post-amplifier enhances signal robustness, improving Q factor and BER while managing SNR, ultimately meeting ITU standards, and ensuring signal integrity in 5G environments. © 2024 IEEE.

The Timau National Observatory has been established as an alternative solution to the now less-than-ideal conditions at the Boscha Observatory. In addition to optical telescopes, the National Observatory will also feature a radio telescope that requires infrastructure that enables fast and secure data transmission free from radio signal interference. This research proposes a fiber optic network design using XGSPON technology with speeds up to 10 Gbps to facilitate data transfer to BPON as the operational control office. From the design and simulation results, the performance analysis parameters for the link power budget met the threshold of -28 dB, the value of the rise time budget was below 0.07 ns, the factor Q was above 6, and the BER threshold of 10-9 was achieved with a transmitter power of 11 dBm (class E2), due to the long distance and uneven terrain that require a high transmitter power. The system design analysis revealed that the link power budget, the rise time budget, the Q factor, and the BER parameters all meet the standards set by ITU-T G-9807.1. © 2024 IEEE.

Fiber optic network infrastructure is being developed to significantly enhance internet accessibility in remote areas, which is crucial for socio-economic development. This study presents a proposed fiber optic network for the Long Bagun and Sendawar regions, located in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The network design emphasizes an efficient construction layout to reduce deployment costs and ensure stable, high-speed connectivity. Key technical analyses include the link power budget, rise time, and bit error rate (BER), calculated to meet optimal performance standards. The findings indicate that the proposed network infrastructure may reliably support broadband services, thereby enabling improved access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Calculated and simulated parameters are shown to fall within acceptable limits, reinforcing the system’s viability for practical implementation. © 2024 IEEE.

This study explores the use of the YOLOv5 algorithm to detect loose fruits palm oil in plantations, improve collection efficiency, and reduce reliance on manual labor. Loose fruits have high economic value due to their oil content, but they are often not collected, resulting in financial losses and the growth of weeds around oil palm trees. Conventional manual methods are often ineffective;thus, automatic detection is required. The dataset comprises 525 images of loose fruits, covering complex conditions on plantations, and secondary data from Roboflow, including nontarget objects, such as rocks and dry leaves, to train the model to accurately distinguish loose fruits. During training, several parameters were optimized: batch size, learning rate, optimizer type, weight decay, and momentum, which showed that small batch sizes provided higher mAP50 values, whereas large batches increased mAP50:95, indicating the ability to detect objects at higher levels of complexity. Testing in a scenario with loose fruits clearly visible and partially covered with leaves or grass showed that YOLOv5 could detect loose fruits well despite some constraints in the obstructed environment. The results of this study show that, with appropriate parameter settings, YOLOv5 can be a reliable basis for automated loose fruit collection systems, potentially improving operational efficiency in oil palm plantations and contributing to the development of automation in the agricultural sector. © 2025 IEEE.

Polymeric optical fiber (POF) is a flexible and transparent plastic fiber used in various applications, including for a sensing system in automobile brake systems. This research study proposed the design and analysis of a plastic optical fiber network for automobile brake systems. The method is to utilize the light emitted from the vehicle's backlight, which is then captured by the brake system detector. The design employs an optical communication system because of its advantageous features, such as high-speed data transmission and communication reliability. The power budget of the link is analyzed through theoretical calculations and simulations. The proposed system can achieve a Q factor of 8.29 and a power margin of 11.26 dB. This condition indicates that the proposed design can function properly in terms of data transmission and sufficient transmitted power. © 2024 IEEE.
