In this study, an 80-160 kV, 200 W high voltage power supply is designed and implemented. To overcome the insulation restrictions of the transformer used in the high voltage power supply, a resonant converter and a voltage multiplier circuit were used consecutively for the voltage boosting process. To utilize the parasitic capacitor of transformer becoming dominant due to the high turn ratio, an LCC type series-parallel resonant converter is used as the resonant converter. An optimization algorithm that optimizes efficiency and power density is developed to determine the resonant tank parameters. Bipolar Cockcroft-Walton Voltage Multiplier as the voltage multiplier is preferred due to the advantages of less secondary winding and lower voltage drop. The high voltage power supply design is verified with simulations and experimental results. © 2024 IEEE.

By capturing gaze points and eye movement patterns, eye tracking technology enables researchers to gain insights into visual attention, cognitive processes, and human behavior. Raw eye tracking data is inherently noisy, containing coordinates with occasional invalid entries. Researchers commonly face the challenge of cleaning and refining this data before proceeding to calculate essential eye tracking metrics. Critical preprocessing steps involve filtering out noise, detecting events such as fixations and saccades, and deriving metrics such as fixation duration, saccade amplitude, and more. This paper introduces a tool that provides users with the ability to preprocess data from both Gazepoint and FOVIO eye trackers. The methodology adopted for this line of work is based on Nyström and Holmqvist's (2010) data and velocity-driven algorithm. Preliminary results show the methodology developed as part of this line of work is promising in terms of improved accuracy and reliability in detecting fixations and saccades. Furthermore, this code and its versatile Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been successfully employed in multiple studies. Finally, we present supplementary code for calculating various eye tracking metrics and percent gaze overlap, extending the utility of our tool for in-depth analysis of visual attention and collaborative gaze behavior. © 2024 IEEE.

A brain tumor is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in the *** children and adults,brain tumor is considered one of the leading causes of *** are several types of brain tumors,including benign(non-cancerous)and malignant(cancerous)*** brain tumors as early as possible is essential,as this can improve the chances of successful treatment and *** this problem,we bring forth a hybrid intelligent deep learning technique that uses several pre-trained models(Resnet50,Vgg16,Vgg19,U-Net)and their integration for computer-aided detection and localization systems in brain *** pre-trained and integrated deep learning models have been used on the publicly available dataset from The Cancer Genome *** dataset consists of 120 *** pre-trained models have been used to classify tumor or no tumor images,while integrated models are applied to segment the tumor region *** have evaluated their performance in terms of loss,accuracy,intersection over union,Jaccard distance,dice coefficient,and dice coefficient *** pre-trained models,the U-Net model achieves higher performance than other models by obtaining 95%*** contrast,U-Net with ResNet-50 out-performs all other models from integrated pre-trained models and correctly classified and segmented the tumor region.

The growing privacy concerns and the communication costs associated with transmitting raw data have resulted in techniques like federated learning, where the machine learning models are trained at the edge nodes, and the parameter updates are shared with a central server. Because communications from the edge nodes are often unreliable, a hierarchical setup involving intermediate helper nodes is considered. The communication links between the edges and the helper nodes are error-prone and are modeled as straggling/failing links. To overcome the issue of link failures, coding techniques are proposed. The edge nodes communicate encoded versions of the model updates to the helper nodes, which pass them on to the master after suitable aggregation. The primary work in this area uses repetition codes and Maximum Distance Separable (MDS) codes at the edge nodes to arrive at the Aligned Repetition Coding (ARC) and Aligned MDS Coding (AMC) schemes, respectively. We propose using vector codes, specifically a family of layered MDS codes parameterized by a variable ?, at the edge nodes. For the proposed family of codes, suitable aggregation strategies at the helper nodes are also developed. At the extreme values of ?, our scheme matches the communication costs incurred by the ARC and AMC schemes, resulting in a graceful transition between these schemes. © 2023 IEEE.

electrical machines have infiltrated the current industrial reality dynamically, including applications in renewable energy, traction, aerospace, etc. Despite the domination of three phase machines, in special applications such as automotive and aerospace, options for multiphase electrical machines are continuously explored, as multiphase machines increase fault tolerance, efficiency, and reliability. This paper investigates the behavior of a 5-phase induction motor with inter-turn short circuit faults during the steady-state operation under two different winding configurations, notably the star and pentagon ones. Extensive finite element simulations have been performed for the healthy and faulty machine to examine the effect of the fault accounting for the winding connection, fault location, and severity. © 2024 IEEE.

Fog computing is a key enabling technology of 6G systems as it provides quick and reliable computing,and data storage services which are required for several 6G *** Intelligence(AI)algorithms will be an integral part of 6G systems and efficient task offloading techniques using fog computing will improve their performance and *** this paper,the focus is on the scenario of Partial Offloading of a Task to Multiple Helpers(POMH)in which larger tasks are divided into smaller subtasks and processed in parallel,hence expediting task ***,using POMH presents challenges such as breaking tasks into subtasks and scaling these subtasks based on many interdependent factors to ensure that all subtasks of a task finish simultaneously,preventing resource ***,applying matching theory to POMH scenarios results in dynamic preference profiles of helping devices due to changing subtask sizes,resulting in a difficult-to-solve,externalities *** paper introduces a novel many-to-one matching-based algorithm,designed to address the externalities problem and optimize resource allocation within POMH ***,we propose a new time-efficient preference profiling technique that further enhances time optimization in POMH *** performance of the proposed technique is thoroughly evaluated in comparison to alternate baseline schemes,revealing many advantages of the proposed *** simulation findings indisputably show that the proposed matching-based offloading technique outperforms existing methodologies in the literature,yielding a remarkable 52 reduction in task latency,particularly under high workloads.

As machine learning algorithms increasingly influence crucial decisions in areas like loan approvals and hiring, understanding human strategic behavior in response to these systems becomes vital. We explore strategic manipulation and improvement actions by individuals facing algorithmic decisions, the algorithm designer's role in shaping these strategic responses, and the fairness implications. We formulate these interactions as a Stackelberg game, where a firm deploys a (fair) classifier, and individuals strategically respond. Unlike previous research, our model incorporates both different costs and stochastic efficacy for manipulation and improvement. The analysis reveals different potential classes of agent responses, and characterizes optimal classifiers. Based on these, we highlight the impact of the firm's anticipation of strategic behavior, identifying cases when a (fair) strategic policy can motivate improvement while reducing manipulation. © 2024 IEEE.

Some organizations in Japan have planned planetary explorations using a small rover. However, the rovers with cylindrical wheels have a risk of failing to move in the loose soil area, such as the surface of the lunar/planet. The movement using the supporting force of the locked wheel, for example, a wheeled walking, or push-pull locomotion, can reduce the risk. Previous studies have mainly developed relatively large rovers over a mass of 10 kg. Meanwhile, our group has developed a small and lightweight (under a mass of a few kg) push-rolling rover with minimal configuration, and our previous studies indicated that the rover could climb steep slopes over 30 degrees with low slip. Planetary exploration rovers are required to move in an arbitrary direction;therefore, the developed rover also needs to have a function of a turning motion. This paper proposes the turning motion while inching for the push-rolling rover with minimal configuration and evaluates its performance by the traveling experiments at different conditions (driving conditions, and wheel shapes). The experimental results indicated that the proposed turning motion using high wheel slip and lug's wheel realized turning with low slip on loose surfaces with steep slopes. Additionally, the experimental results also showed that the slip amount of the rotational center is lower than that of a normal skid-steering rover. © 2024 International Society for Terrain-Vehicle systems. The utilization of renewable energy (RE) has increased worldwide because it is one of the effective ways to minimize greenhouse gases. The power outputs of photovoltaic (PV) and wind farms depend on weather conditions. High penetration of intermittent renewable energy (IRE) will put pressure on frequency regulation, and frequency fluctuation will increase because IRE does not participate in frequency regulation. This study evaluated the role of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the frequency regulation of a grid with large-scale IRE. The simulations were conducted in the MATLAB-Simulink environment, taking into consideration the operating conditions of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) power system, such as frequency deviation limits. Eskom's (the RSA utility company) policy requires its operators to keep the system frequency between 49.85 Hz and 50.15 Hz 95% of the time. The BESS was integrated into the load frequency control (LFC) model to assist with frequency regulation and maintain the frequency between 49.85 Hz and 50.15 Hz. © 2023 IEEE.

A Susceptible-Infectious-Recovered (SIR) model is a popular and fundamental epidemiological model often used to assess the efficacy of disease prevention and control measures. SIR disease model, with the implementation of various optimal control methods, is investigated to determine the optimal ways to lessen the effects of an infectious disease. In this research work, a non-linear, closed-loop, finite-horizon, optimal regulation with state-dependent Riccati equation (FH-SDRE) is implemented in an epidemic model called SIR model with vaccination to minimize the infected and susceptible population. Given the nonlinear dynamics of the SIR epidemic model, initially, this method converts the nonlinear equations into a state-dependent coefficient (SDC) matrix, which holds the nonlinearities of the dynamical system. After that, SDRE is solved at every small time instant over a specified finite time period. The core idea here is to utilize an approximate analytical approach that transforms the differential Riccati equation (DRE) into a differential Lyapunov equation (DLE) during every time period. Then, the real-time solution of the DLE at each of these time steps will result in the control law required to achieve the desired system performance. The effectiveness of the FH-SDRE regulation for the SIR model is demonstrated by minimizing the infected and susceptible population within a desired 30-day time period. © 2023 IEEE.
