The paper deals with the design and implementation of safety functions for a CNC milling machine. It is a relatively small CNC milling machine that does not pose a great danger to trained persons. Because it is used in areas where even untrained persons can come into contact with it, it was necessary to implement a safety system that implements safety functions preventing accidents when entering the dangerous zone of the CNC milling machine. The safety system is implemented based on a safety PLC and the sensors are designed using a two-channel architecture to meet the required SIL (safety integrity level). © 2024 IEEE.

The main idea of the project is to increase the service life (resource) of electric brushes of electric machines (additionally by 30-50 %), depending on their design. The recommended electric brush is fundamentally different in design and service life from the existing brushes. This electric brush is a composite brush, while the existing commercially available brushes are one-piece. Chemical composition and proportions of components of composite electric brushes, their sizes do not differ from serial ones. The design parameters of the electric machine and brush holder also remain unchanged. This confirms the absence of the slightest technological risk in the operation of the new type of electric brushes. Let us briefly consider the main content of technical diagnostics. Technical diagnostics studies methods of obtaining and evaluating diagnostic information, diagnostic models and decision-making algorithms. The purpose of technical diagnostics is to improve the reliability and resource of technical systems. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, the feasibility of three-phase AC power routing is shown with a power router designed for three-phase AC system. The feasibility of three-phase power routing is clarified based on not only the laboratory experiments but also field demonstration using the prototype of the SiC three-phase power router and self-owned power line along railway’s track. The demonstration shows that the circuit switching for the power routing causes no impact to the communication for railway’s control. © 2024 IEEE.

The integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into the smart grid has introduced new challenges and opportunities for optimizing power and energy management. This paper presents a simple method using a decision-tree to estimate allocation of electric vehicle grid interfaces (EVGIs) for EV charging/discharging, leveraging the nodal capabilities of a distribution system. The future distribution system will cater for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) transactions in addition to grid-to-vehicle (G2V) transactions, thus EVGIs allowing for bidirectional (G2V/V2G) power flows need to be deployed. The proposed decision-tree method is based on nodal power flow ratings and peak demand at the nodes assuming the nodal voltages are maintained within their stability envelopes by volt-var optimization and other voltage control methods. The allocation of EVGIs in the IEEE 34 test node feeder distribution system using the decision-tree method is illustrated. The EVGI allocation using decision-trees is a simple method that can provide insights of a typical distribution system's capability to support EV integration with emerging smart grid technologies. © 2024 IEEE.

One of the issues related to pregnancy is gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The risk of exploration in the GDM is lowered with early detection. The study aims to develop a machine learning-based paradigm for the detection of the GDM. Four distinct classifiers-logistic regression, decision tree, gradient boosting, and support vector machine were used. Nine factors of the clinical setting are distinguished in each case. A data set called PIMA for diabetes is used as the data source. The challenge of the existence of missing values is solved by substituting the mean and median values alternatively. Therefore, three scenarios have been applied to the dataset. The performance of the classifiers was assessed by measuring accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and precision. Results yielded reliable outcomes for the proposed paradigm. In specific, the best results were obtained for the gradient boosting classifier by substituting the missing value by the median value. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of the paradigm. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, cloud computing has witnessed widespread applications across numerous organizations. Predicting workload and computing resource data can facilitate proactive service operation management, leading to substantial improvements in quality of service and cost efficiency. However, these data often exhibit non-linearity, high volatility, and interdependencies across different categories, presenting challenges for accurate forecasting. Consequently, there is a critical need to develop a method that thoroughly and comprehensively analyzes all available data to forecast future trends effectively. This work proposes a novel integrated data-enhanced prediction model named SVAPI for achieving high-accuracy workload prediction in cloud computing systems. SVAPI employs the Savitzky-Golay filter, Variational mode decomposition, and the mode selection based on Amplitude-aware Permutation entropy for feature processing, whose features are subsequently utilized by Informer for multivariate joint analysis of the enhanced data, achieving high-precision prediction. Ablation and comparative experiments with advanced prediction models are conducted on the Google cluster trace and other typical datasets. Realistic data-driven results indicate that SVAPI improves the prediction accuracy by 37.7% compared to the original Informer, with each module contributing to the performance enhancement. Furthermore, compared with Autoformer, SVAPI enhances the prediction accuracy of workload, CPU, and memory by 65.6%, 66.9%, and 70.8%, respectively, demonstrating that SVAPI owns strong abilities in noise filtering, feature processing, and multivariate joint analysis for achieving higher prediction accuracy. © 2014 IEEE.

Plantar pressure and contact area information are crucial to giving insight into stress on the foot. People who are at risk of foot imbalance in loaded positions due to their functions are the target of the study. The aim was to measure the plantar pressure and the contact area with different loaded positions. Five positions with a 12 Kg load in addition to no load have been investigated. The loaded positions were the right shoulder, the left shoulder, the right hand, the left hand, and the back of the body. An experiment has been conducted using a foot pressure measuring system. Ten healthy adult males with an average weight of 79.9 Kg were asked to test the system. The results were reported in terms of the distribution of the plantar pressure and the percentage of the contact area. The results of the study recommend that the back of the body is the most suitable position for carrying external loads. On the other hand, the right-hand and left-hand load positions are the worst positions for carrying external loads. © 2023 IEEE.

This study proposes an innovative approach to improve solar cooking systems by combining microcontroller technology and deep-learning techniques. The Solar-PV Microcontroller-based Cooker concept aims to provide a sustainable and eco-friendly cooking method by harnessing the sun's power. This innovative approach addresses global energy conservation and access to clean cooking options, particularly in areas where conventional methods contribute to deforestation and indoor air pollution. The system includes inputs for cooking duration and temperature monitoring, enhancing solar energy efficiency and user experience. The study investigates how deep learning algorithms can be incorporated into the microcontroller-based solar cooker system to enhance functionality and versatility. Cooking settings can be automatically adjusted to maximize energy consumption and cooking results by analyzing real-time data from sensors and human inputs. The hybrid approach combines the best features of deep learning with microcontroller technology, demonstrating the significance of renewable energy in a cleaner, more efficient future. The Solar-Pv cooker demonstrates the possibilities of fusing culinary technology with computer algorithms, showcasing the potential of renewable energy in a cleaner, more efficient future. © 2024 IEEE.

Integration of distributed generation (DG) units could reduce the duration of power outage for a certain number of consumers in distribution networks after a network failure. Prerequisites are that i) the DG unit has the technical characteristics that enable its islanded operation, the degree of automation of the distribution network allows it and ii) it is in accordance with the current technical regulations of the country. The extent to which integration of distributed sources can improve reliability depends on the DG size, type, and the point of common coupling. Besides, an energy storage system could be installed along with DG unit, so that energy supply availability during fault periods can be secured. This paper proposes an algorithm based on mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) approach for optimal placement of photovoltaic power plant (PVPP) and battery energy storage system (BESS). The optimal location is determined so that expected non supplied energy is minimized. The interaction effects among individual loops and multiple time delays are the prime reasons for degrading the closed-loop performance of multivariable systems. For highly interacting systems, decouplers are used to counteract interaction effects. However, decouplers may not be realizable and even if they are realizable, for high dimensional systems, decoupler elements may be complex. To improve the decoupler realizability, a dead-time compensation (DTC) approach is proposed in this work. The DTC framework can minimise the impact of dead-time on system dynamics. The proposed decoupler is designed based on the dynamic relative gain array (DRGA) to compensate for interaction effects. The DRGA reveals more insights about the coupling effect between a pair of input-output loops. The DRGA elements are used as decoupler elements for the multivariable process. The minimization of both interaction effects and dead-time dynamics can be achieved with the proposed DTC-based decoupling control approach. The simple IM C PI tuning rules are utilized to implement controllers for each loop. The simulation study affirming the proposed method provides better desired closed-loop performance, error indices for nominal and plant model mismatches, and robust stability against plant uncertainty over the popular existing decoupler based approaches. © 2024 IEEE.
