A general transformation that takes linear systems into their regular form, for any relative degree is introduced. A sliding surface where unmatched unknown inputs are attenuated via a reduced order H_∞ control is designed, for the case of relative degree two. By a discontinuous control action, the surface is reached exactly in finite time, guaranteeing the minimization of the unmatched disturbance. Complete state measurements are not necessary.

The Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing system, most notably BitTorrent (BT), have achieved tremendous success among Internet users. Recent studies suggest that the long-term relationships among BitTorrent peers can be explored to enhance the downloading performance. In such systems, The mechanisms like tit-for-tat, optimistic unchoking, anti-snubbing, various piece and selection strategy have been working very well. We design a new scheme to improve the performance of BitTorrent-Like P2P File Sharing Systems, inspired by the idea of Application Level Traffic Optimization (ALTO). This work is an attempt to study the performance of BitTorrent protocol and its networking infrastructure through two strategies, (A) we propose a novel approach to make BitTorrent node aware of the topology of underlying networks. Then we modify BitTorrent's original algorithms and replace them with new localized algorithms based on autonomous system (AS) hops. (B) we conduct comprehensive experiments to verify the correctness and effectiveness of our scheme based on the PeerSim simulation. The simulation result shows that, with our scheme, nodes in BitTorrent-like systems have better sense of the topology of their underlying networks, and can interact more efficiently. Besides, our scheme can help to decrease the traffic, optimize traffic distribution across the whole networks, and obtained are used to infer various performance parameters of BitTorrent protocols.

A new scheme for adaptive neural networks for nonlinear dynamic system identification is proposed in this paper. The network of structure multi-layer perceptron with external recurrence is trained offline at first to get the initial network parameters. The parameters of the network are classified into short-term memory part and long-term memory part. The short-term memory part includes the parameters which are linear to the network output. In the implementation, the network is validated in each sampling time using a set of new measurement data. Training procedure will be executed if the model error exceeds a specified value and the short-term memory part will be adjusted. The application in modelling of room thermal behaviour demonstrates the performance of the proposed scheme.

A new idea to improve the performance of neural networks in modelling is presented in this paper. As the networks obtain their knowledge through learning process, it can be influenced through stronger optimization or more suited cost function to be minimized. In this paper, the implementation of linear-quadratic cost function is proposed. This cost function comprises of quadratic and linear function. By applying the linear function to errors greater than a certain threshold, the network becomes more rigid and less sensitive to measurement outliers and disturbances in the form of impulses or spikes. Simulative experiment using a strongly non-linear dynamic system was conducted and the proposed cost function is proved to be effective and enables the network to cope with measurement data with disturbance impulses.

This paper presents a prototype of an acquisition board of electromyographic signals (EMG);an embedded portable, wireless and low cost solution. The system is composed of an EMG acquisition board, Zigbee modules and a device named GPRSx. After acquiring the EMG signal, it is sent through ZigBee wireless technology to GPRSx device. The GPRSx device sends the EMG signal to a server on the Internet by using GPRS wireless technology. Thus, the EMG signal is displayed in a graph on a remote computer. The results are very promising and may serve as a reference in studies for the biomedical area.
