Comprehensive prediction of outcomes in patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) using tree-based machine learning algorithms

ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), a subtype of acute coronary syndrome, is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Revascularization using primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) is the gold standard treatment. Despite the restoration of myocardial blood flow, some patients experience adverse outcomes. Early detection of high-risk patients would facilitate timely management, potentially improving their morbidity, mortality, and quality of life. In-depth characterization of the aortic pressure (AP) waveform may identify a high-risk patient cohort. We present tree-based classifiers and features extracted from the AP signals to identify patients at risk of adverse outcomes. This is a single-center, retrospective cohort study that included 605 eligible STEMI patients [64.2 ± 13.2 years, 71.4 % (432) males] treated with PPCI. Outcomes, including mortality (within 30-day and 1-year), and in-hospital events such as prolonged in-hospital stay (>4 days) for medical reasons, a new diagnosis of heart failure (HF), diuretic use for more than 24 h, intubation-ventilation or BiPAP use, and inotropic and/or vasopressor use, were recorded. We extracted features mainly from denoised AP signals recorded during PPCI, followed by different feature selection algorithms and classification methods to predict outcomes. Various classifiers such as tree-based classifiers, including random forest (RF), adaptive boosting (AdaBoost), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), and CatBoost, were used. Using recursive feature elimination (RFE) as the feature selection method and the CatBoost classifier, we achieved a receiver operating characteristic curve's area under the curve (AUC) of 80 % for all outcomes except for the new diagnosis of HF and diuretic use (>24 h). This paper presents the automatic transfer function improvement based on the genetic algorithm for searching the optimal transfer function. A traditional genetic algorithm is modified to perform the searching process. The proposed chromosome design is presented in the form of 15-bit supported the resistance and inductance. Transfer function is used to design and control the systems. The optimal fitness function is used for the objective function of system to optimize the transfer function. Experiment results show that the second order of automatic transfer function performed by the genetic algorithm can achieve more accuracy than the traditional first order transfer function process. By the process improvement using the genetic algorithm, the time is used for searching transfer function with the chromosome design under the optimal fitness function by the genetic algorithm is approximately 13.35 seconds.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) or commonly known as basal cell cancers is the most common non-melanoma skin disease in the world. BCC is the result of an interaction between a combination of genetic and environmental factors that are directly related to prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays, such as the neck and head area. This study proposes to use the CLAHE (Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization) method on skin images to improve image quality. CLAHE is an image quality improvement method that aims to obtain images with better contrast than the original image without reducing the quality of the image itself. The experimental results show that the CLAHE image are more accurate than the original image. For quantitative measurements, the performance is seen from the value of accuracy, precision, recall, specificity, and F-score. To be more specific, the experiments utilized the well-known public dataset called ISIC 2018 Dataset (for BCC image), while the normal skin used our own USK-Normal Skin dataset. The results for original image using VGG-16 architecture is 98,3%, ResNet-34 is 97,5%, EfficientNetB0 is 98,2%, and EfficientNet-B7 is 99,7%, respectively. Meanwhile, in the CLAHE image, the accuracy values obtained are higher, for the VGG-16 is 100%, ResNet-34 99.5%, EfficientNetB0 100% and EfficientNet-B7 100%, respectively. Roadblocks to Attracting Students to Software Testing Careers: Comparisons of Replicated Studies

Context. Recently, a family of studies highlighted the unpopularity of software testing careers among undergraduate students in software engineering and computer science courses. The original study and its replications explored the perception of students in universities in four countries (Canada, China, India, and Malaysia), and indicated that most students do not consider a career in software testing as an option after graduation. This scenario represents a problem for the software industry since the lack of skilled testing professionals might decrease the quality of software products and increase the number of unsuccessful projects. Goal. The present study aims to replicate, in Brazil, the studies conducted in the other four countries to establish comparisons and support the development of strategies to improve the visibility and importance of software testing among undergraduate students across the globe. Method. We followed the same protocol in the original study to collect data using a questionnaire and analyzed the answers using descriptive statistics and qualitative data analysis. Results. Our findings indicate similarities among the results obtained in Brazil in comparison to those obtained from other countries. We observed that students are not motivated to follow a testing career in the software industry based on a belief that testing activities lack challenges and opportunities for continuous learning. Conclusions. In summary, students seem to be interested in learning more about software testing. However, the lack of discussions about the theme in software development courses, as well as the limited offer of courses focused on software quality at the university level reduce the visibility of this area, which causes a decrease in the interest in this career. © 2022, CC BY.

In recent years, humanity has experienced the effects of using unsustainable energy sources that pollute the environment while being inefficient. Most of the primary energy input used in energy conversion processes is lost in the form of heat. Thermoelectric generators (TEGs) have the potential to recover some of this wasted heat;however, their low energy conversion efficiency needs to be addressed. Previous literature has shown effective optimization of thermoelectric generation systems through statistical tools such as the Taguchi method that optimized all the parameters that affect the outcome of the system. To this date, no research has considered wind speed for convection heat transfer as one of the optimizable parameters. This study aims to optimize the operating conditions of commercially available TEGs that are cooled by forced convection simulating naturally occurring wind speeds and operate under low-quality waste heat temperatures to improve the TEG performance further. Two commercially available TEGs are optimized via the Taguchi method. The Taguchi method is implemented with three parameters and three levels, making an L9 orthogonal array. The objective function is the maximum output power. The optimized parameters are the hot side temperature, the heat sink size, and the wind airspeed. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used alongside the Taguchi orthogonal array for the statistical analysis of the results. The optimization results show that the hot side temperature is the most influential parameter to the output power. In addition, the change in the heat sink size also significantly influences the output power, whereas the impact of the wind speed is not as significant. In addition, interaction analysis between the parameters is performed. The Taguchi method yields satisfactory optimization results. Convolutional neural network is a class of deep neural networks that has made a great breakthrough in image recognition. CNNs are commonly used to detect and classify visual applications so that they are frequently embedded in image classification tasks. The common trend nowadays is to accelerate the processing of CNNs in order to use them in real-time applications such as image classification and object recognition. This paper presents the implementation of ZynqNet CNN architecture on FPGA. The full ZynqNet CNN layers are implemented on FPGA to reach the max acceleration and make full use of all DSP units. Several optimizations techniques are used in different design phases to improve processing speed, utilized area, and power consumption. In addition, the proposed hardware accelerator achieves 15.6 fps for ZynqNet CNN at maximum frequency. The proposed architecture runs at two different frequencies of 100MHz and 125MHz, and is implemented on Virtex-7 FPGA. © 2021 IEEE.

We present an observation of quantum interference between position and momentum with photons. We prepared a superposition of position and momentum states by using slits, lenses, and an interferometer. The precise control and measuring of propagation time of the photon results in a clear quantum interference of 85% visibility. The generated quantum state is then used to verify the violation of particle propagation inequality proposed by Hofmann [Phys. Rev. A 96, 020101(R) (2017)], resulting in 5.9% below the statistically predicted lower bound. We believe that this result is a major step towards further developments in quantum theory, such as fundamental modifications to the interpretation of quantum mechanics.

Stress, as a reaction to threatening situations, can raise heart rate and result in serious conditions that might cause significant damage or even be life-threatening. Traditional methods for evaluating stress, which rely on subjective self-reporting and clinical assessments, often suffer from biases and inconsistencies. Artificial intelligence models have been explored to predict stress levels more accurately. This paper investigates the application of Extreme Gradient Boosting in classifying psychological stress using the WESAD dataset, which includes parameters such as acceleration, electrocardiogram, electromyography, electrodermal activity, temperature, and respiration. The dataset was balanced and sampled to create a manageable subset for experimental. Extreme Gradient Boosting was chosen for its efficiency and scalability in handling complex datasets. The model was trained and validated, achieving a 95% accuracy in predicting stress levels. This study highlights the potential of integrating Extreme Gradient Boosting models into wearable devices for real-time stress monitoring. Future work involves optimizing the model to utilize fewer sensors without decreasing accuracy, ensuring it can be integrated into portable/wearable systems using tiny microcontrollers.

This study investigates the control mechanisms underlying interpersonal coordination in ballroom dancing. We propose an agent-pair model, to understand the mechanism, that the number of steps increases when dancers dance in pairs compared to when they dance solo, that is, the pair-assist effect. In the proposed model, the agents support each other through holds on their arms, enabling them to take back-arched body postures that allow the agents to realize larger leg strides, which would result in instability if the agents danced alone. Furthermore, each agent adjusts its leg motion based on the compressive force generated by the hold, thereby generating a cooperative motion that suppresses the variation in the hold force due to discrepancies between agents. Simulation results suggest that decentralized motion coordination based on the load via the hold between agents is important in cooperative movements that involve physical contact, as observed in ballroom dancing.

In general, public or private organizations or companies have used information-based technology as a support to improve business performance to be more effective and efficient in order to achieve a company’s business goals. Given the large contribution of information technology in the application of hotel applications as a supporting information system, it is a vital system that must avoid risks that can hinder and cause harm to the hotel management business processes. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out risk management using the COBIT 5 framework to manage possible risks that may occur based on the APO12 (Manage Risk) domain. From the evaluation results of the data obtained through observation and interviews as well as the calculation of the results of the questionnaire based on 6 APO12 subdomains, the results of the risk management level capability assessment in hotel applications are still at level 3 or have reached the level of established process with the target to be achieved at level 4 resulting in a gap of 1 level. Based on the results obtained, it is necessary to propose recommendations that can be used by hotels in improving the application of information technology risk management so that in the future it can achieve the expected target level so that the APO12 level of capability can increase and become more optimal.
