Effective uncertain fault diagnosis technique for wind conversion systems using improved ensemble learning algorithm

This paper introduces a pioneering fault diagnosis technique termed Interval Ensemble Learning based on Sine Cosine Optimization Algorithm (IEL- SCOA), tailored to tackle uncertainties prevalent in wind energy conversion (WEC) systems. The approach unfolds in three integral phases. Firstly, the establishment of interval centers and ranges, employing upper and lower bounds, effectively manages the inherent uncertainties arising from noise and measurement errors intrinsic to the wind system. Subsequently, the dataset undergoes processing via the Sine-Cosine Optimization Algorithm (SCOA), enabling the extraction of the most pertinent attributes. The culmination of predictive precision and classification performance is achieved through the integration of the refined dataset into an ensemble learning paradigm, harmonizing bagging, boosting techniques, and an artificial neural network classifier. The principal aim of the IEL-SCOA approach is to discern the spectrum of operational conditions within WEC systems, encompassing a healthy mode alongside six distinct faulty modes. These anomalies, encompassing short circuits, open circuits, and wear-out incidents, are deliberately induced at diverse locations and facets of the system, notably the generator and grid sides. Empirical results underscore the robustness and efficiency of the proposed methodology, showcasing an exceptional accuracy rate of 99.76 %. These outcomes definitively establish the IEL-SCOA approach as a potent and efficacious tool for precise fault diagnosis in uncertain WEC systems. © 2023

Imitation learning, in which learning is performed by demonstration, has been studied and advanced for sequential decision-making tasks in which a reward function is not predefined. However, imitation learning methods still require numerous expert demonstration samples to successfully imitate an expert's behavior. To improve sample efficiency, we utilize self-supervised representation learning, which can generate vast training signals from the given data. In this study, we propose a self-supervised representation-based adversarial imitation learning method to learn state and action representations that are robust to diverse distortions and temporally predictive, on non-image control tasks. In particular, in comparison with existing self-supervised learning methods for tabular data, we propose a different corruption method for state and action representations that is robust to diverse distortions. We theoretically and empirically observe that making an informative feature manifold with less sample complexity significantly improves the performance of imitation learning. The proposed method shows a 39% relative improvement over existing adversarial imitation learning methods on MuJoCo in a setting limited to 100 expert state-action pairs. Moreover, we conduct comprehensive ablations and additional experiments using demonstrations with varying optimality to provide insights into a range of factors.

Machine learning (ML) is poised to play an important part in advancing the predicting capability in semiconductor device compact modeling domain. One major advantage of ML-based compact modeling is its ability to capture complex relationships and patterns in large datasets. Therefore, in this paper a novel design scheme based on dynamically adaptive neural network (DANN) is proposed to develop fast and accurate compact model (CM). This framework constitutes a powerful yet computationally efficient methodology and exhibits emergent dynamic behaviors. This paper demonstrates that the compact model based on ML can be designed to replicate the performance of conventional compact model for nanodevices. For this work, gate-all-around (GAA) nanosheet (NS) device characteristics are comprehensively analyzed for process variability sources using the proposed model. The device geometry parameters such as channel length, nanosheet width and nanosheet thickness are fed as input features to the DANN model. The adaptive neural network learns dynamically by updating weights of the model in accordance with the input features and achieves accurate neural weight convergence. The proposed model predicted the electrical characteristics of NS devices with less than 1% error rate. The model is also implemented and validated for the simulations of digital circuit designs such as inverter, and logic gates. ©;2023 The Authors.

Majorization theoretical approach to entanglement enhancement via local filtration

From the perspective of majorization theory, we study how to enhance the entanglement of a two-mode squeezed vacuum (TMSV) state by using local filtration operations. We present several schemes achieving entanglement enhancement with photon addition and subtraction, and then consider filtration as a general probabilistic procedure consisting in acting with local (nonunitary) operators on each mode. From this, we identify a sufficient set of two conditions for these filtration operators to successfully enhance the entanglement of a TMSV state, namely, the operators must be Fock orthogonal (i.e., preserving the orthogonality of Fock states) and Fock amplifying (i.e., giving larger amplitudes to larger Fock states). Our results notably prove that ideal photon addition, subtraction, and any concatenation thereof always enhance the entanglement of a TMSV state in the sense of majorization theory. We further investigate the case of realistic photon addition (subtraction) and are able to upper bound the distance between a realistic photon-added (-subtracted) TMSV state and a nearby state that is provably more entangled than the TMSV, thus extending entanglement enhancement to practical schemes via the use of a notion of approximate majorization. Finally, we consider the state resulting from k-photon addition (on each of the two modes) on a TMSV state. We prove analytically that the state corresponding to k=1 majorizes any state corresponding to 2≤k≤8 and we conjecture the validity of the statement for all k≥9.

Recent advances in distribution networks, driven by the integration of renewable energy sources, have spurred the emergence of microgrids, elevating concerns regarded reliability and stability. In this context, precise monitoring of events, particularly those elusive to detection like high-impedance faults (HIFs), becomes imperative. The development of phasor measurement units (PMUs) with their harmonic synchronized measurements has enhanced the monitoring task and fostering the application of synchrophasors even on microgrids. This work introduces a novel method for event classification in microgrids, utilizing combined low-rate PMU data and harmonic synchrophasor time series. Central to our approach is the usage of a state-of-the-art transformer neural network, based on the attention mechanism, to effectively discern HIFs from other faulty and non-fault events. Notably, this methodology accounts for prevalent PMU data quality issues, including noise, missing data, and synchronism errors. Results from real-world HIF data demonstrate a robust performance, with an accuracy rate of approximately 98% in event classification. This harmonic synchrophasor-based strategy showcases promise as an original approach for handling commercial PMU data, offering sufficient robustness for deployment in real-world applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

This paper discusses a method for classification of breast cancer imaging data through the application of an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) for hyperparameter optimization of the ANFIS system. A robust parameter tuning method is used to select the optimal configuration for the ANFIS and PSO components without expert knowledge of the dataset. Using these methods, high classification accuracies can be achieved for both the original and diagnostic versions of the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Dataset. These results demonstrate the flexibility and potential of a joint ANFIS-PSO system for automated diagnosis while retaining system simplicity and linguistic interpretability to support clinical decision-making.

We present Reusable Motion prior (ReMP), an effective motion prior that can accurately track the temporal evolution of motion in various downstream tasks. Inspired by the success of foundation models, we argue that a robust spatio-temporal motion prior can encapsulate underlying 3D dynamics applicable to various sensor modalities. We learn the rich motion prior from a sequence of complete parametric models of posed human body shape. Our prior can easily estimate poses in missing frames or noisy measurements despite significant occlusion by employing a temporal attention mechanism. More interestingly, our prior can guide the system with incomplete and challenging input measurements to quickly extract critical information to estimate the sequence of poses, significantly improving the training efficiency for mesh sequence recovery. ReMP consistently outperforms the baseline method on diverse and practical 3D motion data, including depth point clouds, LiDAR scans, and IMU sensor data.
