A dual-mode, dual-band 2.4/ 5.2 GHz circular microstrip patch antenna for airborne application is presented. Initially, a reference circular patch antenna is designed on Rogers© 5880 substrate for dual-mode (TM11 and TM01) performance with a single feed location. The bandwidth (BW) of the reference antenna is found to be 33 MHz and 155 MHz at 2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz bands respectively. Later, the BW of the reference antenna at both the frequency band is enhanced with the help of proximity patches placed around the periphery of the reference/driven patch. It is found that the BW of the antenna at both the bands is enhanced by 2.5% at 2.4 GHz and 3.9 % at the 5.2 GHz band and similar improvements in their gains are also observed. The proposed antenna is fabricated and tested in an anechoic chamber for its impedance bandwidth and radiation pattern performance. A close match in simulated and measured performance of the antenna is achieved and an appropriate comparison of measured quantities is well illustrated in the paper.

We have developed the system to measure the effectiveness of influencer marketing by a general-purpose method using web browsers and web servers. This system uses the “COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application” (COCOA) as a reference model. COCOA was developed by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in response to the epidemic of COVID-19, to detect suspicions of close contact while maintaining anonymity. The same model was applied to the cyberspace, and the “close contact confirmation method in the cyberspace” was considered in this study. We implemented a prototype and confirmed its functional validity while solving implementation problems using the Cross-Storage library.

Multivariate time series (MTS) data, when sampled irregularly and asynchronously, often present extensive missing values. Conventional methodologies for MTS analysis tend to rely on temporal embeddings based on timestamps that necessitate subsequent imputations, yet these imputed values frequently deviate substantially from their actual counterparts, thereby compromising prediction accuracy. Furthermore, these methods typically fail to provide robust initial embeddings for values infrequently observed or even absent within the training set, posing significant challenges to model generalizability. In response to these challenges, we propose SCAlable Numerical Embedding (SCANE), a novel framework that treats each feature value as an independent token, effectively bypassing the need for imputation. SCANE regularizes the traits of distinct feature embeddings and enhances representational learning through a scalable embedding mechanism. Coupling SCANE with the Transformer Encoder architecture, we develop the Scalable nUMerical eMbeddIng Transformer (SUMMIT), which is engineered to deliver precise predictive outputs for MTS characterized by prevalent missing entries. Our experimental validation, conducted across three disparate electronic health record (EHR) datasets marked by elevated missing value frequencies, confirms the superior performance of SUMMIT over contemporary state-of-the-art approaches addressing similar challenges. These results substantiate the efficacy of SCANE and SUMMIT, underscoring their potential applicability across a broad spectrum of MTS data analytical tasks. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Quantum Hall systems host chiral edge states extending along the one-dimensional boundary of any two-dimensional sample. In solid state materials, the edge states serve as perfectly robust transport channels that produce a quantized Hall conductance; due to their chirality, and the topological protection by the Chern number of the bulk band structure, they cannot be spatially localized by defects or disorder. Here, we show experimentally that the chiral edge states of a lossy quantum Hall system can be localized. In a gyromagnetic photonic crystal exhibiting the quantum Hall topological phase, an appropriately structured loss configuration imparts the edge states’ complex energy spectrum with a feature known as point-gap winding. This intrinsically non-Hermitian topological invariant is distinct from the Chern number invariant of the bulk (which remains intact) and induces mode localization via the “non-Hermitian skin effect.” The interplay of the two topological phenomena—the Chern number and point-gap winding—gives rise to a non-Hermitian generalization of the paradigmatic Chern-type bulk-boundary correspondence principle. Compared to previous realizations of the non-Hermitian skin effect, the skin modes in this system have superior robustness against local defects and disorders.

High-performance UV polarization sensitive photodetector for a graphene(2D)/GaN(3D) junction with a non-centrosymmetric electric field

This study pioneers a high-performance UV polarization-sensitive photodetector by ingeniously integrating non-centrosymmetric metal nanostructures into a graphene ( Gr ) / Al 2 O 3 / GaN heterojunction. Unlike conventional approaches constrained by graphene’s intrinsic isotropy or complex nanoscale patterning, our design introduces asymmetric metal architectures (E-/T-type) to artificially create directional anisotropy. These structures generate plasmon-enhanced localized electric fields that selectively amplify photogenerated carrier momentum under polarized UV light (325 nm), synergized with Fowler-Nordheim tunneling (FNT) across an atomically thin Al 2 O 3 barrier. The result is a breakthrough in performance: a record anisotropy ratio of 115.5 (E-type, − 2 V ) and exceptional responsivity (97.7 A/W), surpassing existing graphene-based detectors by over an order of magnitude. Crucially, by systematically modulating metal geometry and density, we demonstrate a universal platform adaptable to diverse 2D/3D systems. This study provides a valuable reference for developing and practically applying photodetectors with higher anisotropy than ultraviolet polarization sensitivity.

Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have significantly advanced image processing, with Pix2Pix being a notable framework for image-to-image translation. This paper explores a novel application of Pix2Pix to transform abstract map images into realistic ground truth images, addressing the scarcity of such images crucial for domains like urban planning and autonomous vehicle training. We detail the Pix2Pix model’s utilization for generating high-fidelity datasets, supported by a dataset of paired map and aerial images, and enhanced by a tailored training regimen.
