Measurement of capacitance and electrical potential of plural points for estimation of permittivity distribution

Recently, a method for estimating permittivity distributions was reported. The method combined a numerical technique (Finite Element Method) with Genetic Algorithm (GA). However, methods for estimating the distribution of permittivity have not yet been established. The purpose of this study is to obtain experimental data in order to improve the estimation method. We measured capacitance and electrical potential of plural points when an acrylic rod is placed in various positions within a measurement system. © 2013 The Institute of electrical Engineers of Japan.

This article presents the performance analysis and study of hybrid renewable energy using micro hydro turbine and photovoltaic system in the case study area: Bunnasopit School, Nan province, Thailand. The main problem of the implementation of such system in this rural area is the voltage instability of the grid distribution system. electrical Power consumption, hydrology and metrology data are necessary for the designing and analyzing for such hybrid system. The data was corrected all over a year in order to analyze the performance of electrical generating system using Homer program. The simulation results were used for the breakeven point analyzing by engineering economics. From the simulation results, the maximum load of the hybrid system is 5 kW. This system can generate the electricity 44 kWh/day. The hydro power can only generate electricity at 36 kWh/day while the PV system can only generate electricity at 14 kWh/day. The total electrical generating is 23,360 kWh/year. The economics analysis result found that the hybrid system cost is 9.21 US Dollar/kWh. The investment and NPV are 3,493,630 baths and 41,175.76 US Dollar, respectively. IRR and Benefit Cost Ratio 1.68 and 0.50 respectively. The benefit of this system is 2,433.3 US dollar/year. © 2013 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Technological developments change the way of life of all people in interacting with each other, regardless of distance and time. One such interaction is the activity of the exchange of information through communication networks, which are either one-way or two-way with a variety of information, such as voices, images, and data, with the desire to have a fast and reliable delivery. If G(V, E) represents a graph or a network with a number of nodes, V = n, and the number of links, E = e, then assume the nodes are reliable and the links can fail. We investigate new parameter of connectivity called “k-component order edge-connectivity” or “component order edge-connectivity”, denoted by λ (k)c , in which within each type of topology is then compared such as in the topology of path, cycle, star, complete, and wheel networks, then choose the best selection in vulnerability and economic point of views.

We describe dipolar nematic colloids comprising mutually bound solid microspheres, three-dimensional skyrmions, and point defects in a molecular alignment field of chiral nematic liquid crystals. Nonlinear optical imaging and numerical modeling based on minimization of Landau–de Gennes free energy reveal that the particle-induced skyrmions resemble torons and hopfions, while matching surface boundary conditions at the interfaces of liquid crystal and colloidal spheres. Laser tweezers and videomicroscopy reveal that the skyrmion-colloidal hybrids exhibit purely repulsive elastic pair interactions in the case of parallel dipoles and an unexpected reversal of interaction forces from repulsive to attractive as the center-to-center distance decreases for antiparallel dipoles. The ensuing elastic self-assembly gives rise to colloidal chains of antiparallel dipoles with particles entangled by skyrmions.

Application code and processor parallelization, together with instruction set customization, are the most common and effective ways to enhance the performance and efficiency of application-specific processors (ASIPs). Both the effective code parallelization and data/task parallelism exploitation, as well as effective instruction set customization, enable an ASIP to achieve a significant performance improvement using limited extra hardware resources. However, a naive parallelization or instruction set customization may not result in the required performance improvement, leading to a waste of computing and energy resources. Therefore, when performing parallelization or custom instruction selection, complex tradeoffs between processing speed, circuit area and power consumption must be closely observed. In this paper, we propose and discuss an efficient ASIP-based Multi-Processor System-on-a-Chip (MPSoC) design for ray-tracing, exploiting application parallelism and hardware replication-aware instruction set customization. Without hardware sharing among the custom instructions units, the proposed parallel ray-tracer MPSoC design with custom instructions achieves 77% speed up in comparison to a single microprocessor design with the default instruction set. However, with the replication-aware instruction set customization, the speed up increases to 81%. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2013.

In orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) relay system, subcarrier mapping at the relay has been shown to substantially improve the performance evidently. In this paper, we investigate the performance analysis of dual-hop OFDM relay systems with subcarrier mapping over Nakagami-m fading channels. A closed-form expression of outage probabilty is derived for Amplify-and-Forward OFDM Relay System with subcarrier mapping. The efficiency of the analytical performance is demonstrated through simulation results. © 2013 IEEE.

KOKOPIN is a social platform enabling field research of biodiversity using an iPhone application. Our application's camera and meta-data tagging functions facilitate easy data collection. Customizable groups are another unique feature of this system. This paper introduces our initial design process, and some on-going field projects using KOKOPIN. KOKOPIN's development was motivated by the Dandelion Survey in West Japan, a participatory biodiversity research project. The system consists of an iPhone App and backend servers. The platform was designed to accept a variety of data types optimized by a project administrator. As examples of usage, biodiversity data from the Campus Flora Project and the Wooden Assets Management of the Kyushu University Museum were reported. The application was designed as a versatile platform, and recently it started to be accepted not only for biogeography research but also for non-biological services. Copyright 2013 ACM.

The paper presents a method to determine a position of objects in three dimentional coordinates. The proposed method uses a vision-based localization using two low cost cameras. The formulation is derived by using a pin-hole camera principal to project a location of a point in a 2D image into 3D space. This method can be used for indoor unmanned aerial vehicles localization to provide position information for control and navigation purposes.

This paper presents a study of and triboson production using events from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb . The production cross-section is determined using a final state containing an electron, a muon, a photon, and neutrinos ( ). Upper limits on the production cross-section of the final state and the and final states containing an electron or a muon, two jets, a photon, and a neutrino ( or ) are also derived. The results are compared to the cross-sections predicted by the Standard Model at next-to-leading order in the strong-coupling constant. In addition, upper limits on the production cross-sections are derived in a fiducial region optimised for a search for new physics beyond the Standard Model. The results are interpreted in the context of anomalous quartic gauge couplings using an effective field theory. Confidence intervals at 95% confidence level are derived for the 14 coupling coefficients to which and production are sensitive.
