A volatile organic compound (VOCs) classification system is developed for non-invasive biomarker screening tests. The developed system utilizes a preconcentrator, which contains an absorbent material for trapping VOCs at low temperatures and thermally desorbing at specific elevated temperatures. This system is especially useful for detection of odor mixture at low concentration and target VOCs biomarkers in the odor sample can also be measured with enhanced selectivity. All sensing processes, including a PID temperature controller for heating preconcentrator, odor sensor interface, and solenoid valve control, are performed using only a single embedded microcontroller. An odor mixture with low concentration is measured and classified in order to investigate the developed system. The result of the experiment and the principal component analysis (PCA) shows that the system with the preconcentrator can measure the VOCs mixture of odor sample in terms of sensitivity and selectivity. This system prototype is useful for screening tests of exhaled breath biomarker.

Sign language has importance rule to deal with communication process especially with impairments hearing people. Sign language detection also attract lot of researchers to join the challenge of research to detect and recognize the sign language in the field of Computer science. Hence, there is still no any standard approach and method to recognize the meaning in every pose of sign language. This research proposed a mechanism to detect Alphabet American Sign Language by utilizing Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) process. The CNN approach was chosen based on the ability and capability to recognize image. In this research, MNIST dataset is used for traning and testing process. The proposed CNN architecture produced 97% of accuracy that outperform the previous research using the same dataset which made this architecture promising. © 2022 IEEE.

Vital sign assessment is an examination that indicates changes in health. Direct contact during vital signs assessment can increase the risk of disease transmission. This research aimed to develop a contactless vital sign monitoring prototype that includes heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation using a digital camera based on remote photoplethysmography with an adaptive region of interest. The adaptive region-of-interest method uses face detection and skin segmentation to generate red-green-blue signals, taking only the skin pixels of the patients while also minimising the effect of motion artefacts. The hybrid processing method combines several vital sign extraction methods to filter external irrelevant factors and produce heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen saturation values. In addition, the prototype was tested on 50 participants using standard vital sign assessment tools for comparison. The technical specification test of the prototype concluded that the optimal distance of this prototype was up to 2 m with a processing time of 2 s for every 1-s video. The vital signs results were presented using Bland-Altman, which showed that although the Bland-Altman plots revealed a substantial variance in the limits of agreement (±15–20 mmHg for blood pressure, ±15–17 bpm for heart rate, ±4–6 bpm for respiratory rate, and ±1–3 % for blood oxygen saturation), the mean differences for all vital signs were small (±0.7–5 mmHg for blood pressure, ±0.4–0.6 bpm for heart rate, ±0.5–0.7 bpm for respiratory rate, ±0.4–0.6 for blood oxygen saturation) and most data points were within the limits. While further clinical studies are needed to assess its reliability in monitoring specific medical conditions, the prototype has shown an acceptable agreement in assessing vital signs compared to the conventional methods, making it feasible for further development into a medical device. © 2024

Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) has received much attention because it can provide high power density, abundant raw materials, safety, low toxicity, and high thermal stability. In general, the production of LiFePO4 cathode uses Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) as a binder and N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NMP) as a solvent. These components are expensive, toxic, and can affect the environment. Therefore, to cover this shortcoming, the solvent and binder were replaced in this study. The solvent is replaced with water, which is more environmentally friendly and abundant, while the binder is replaced with water soluble binders. Suitable electrode formulations were investigated to obtain high performance cylindrical typed Li-ion batteries. As a result, Formula B (ratio of LiFePO4: AB: KS6: SBR: CMC = 90: 3: 3: 2.677: 1.333) has the highest specific discharge capacity of 120 mAh/g. The NMP-based cathode can give about 145 mAh/g. Therefore, the water-based cathode LiFePO4 gives a value that is slightly lower the NMP-based formular. © 2022 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is widely used in electrochemistry, energy sciences, biology, and beyond. Analyzing EIS data is crucial, but it often poses challenges because of the numerous possible equivalent circuit models, the need for accurate analytical models, the difficulties of nonlinear regression, and the necessity of managing large datasets within a unified framework. To overcome these challenges, non-parametric models, such as the distribution of relaxation times (DRT, also known as the distribution function of relaxation times, DFRT), have emerged as promising tools for EIS analysis. For example, the DRT can be used to generate equivalent circuit models, initialize regression parameters, provide a time-domain representation of EIS spectra, and identify electrochemical processes. However, mastering the DRT method poses challenges as it requires mathematical and programming proficiency, which may extend beyond experimentalists’ usual expertise. Post-inversion analysis of DRT data can be difficult, especially in accurately identifying electrochemical processes, leading to results that may not always meet expectations. This article examines non-parametric EIS analysis methods, outlining their strengths and limitations from theoretical, computational, and end-user perspectives, and provides guidelines for their future development. Moreover, insights from survey data emphasize the need to develop a large impedance database, akin to an impedance genome. In turn, software development should target one-click, fully automated DRT analysis for multidimensional EIS spectra interpretation, software validation, and reliability. Particularly, creating a collaborative ecosystem hinged on free software could promote innovation and catalyze the adoption of the DRT method throughout all fields that use impedance data. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.

Management of patient data at the Technical Implementation Unit of the Community Health Center (UPT. Puskesmas) of Rhee Sumbawa District has not been fully computerized. The need for the development of an Information System to store medical records (history) of patient data. The research aims to develop information systems with descriptive research methods. For software development methods using Waterfall Models and built with Microsoft Visual Studio C# software and databases stored in Microsoft SQL Server software. Software testing uses Black Box Testing, which is testing software in functional terms. Attendance systems have become more modern, and one of the biometric systems without physical contact is face recognition. However, many face-based attendance systems still carry out attendance individually and cannot detect multiple faces simultaneously. In addition, capturing facial data in real-time is still a challenge because the relatively large distance between the camera and the individual reduces the ability to recognize faces. The general solution is to use super-resolution to generate better-quality faces while maintaining the main facial recognition features. One technique still being researched is super-resolution generative adversarial networks (SRGAN). SRGAN can enlarge the resolution of captured images and maintain image quality sufficient for face recognition. The attendance system can be easily integrated into edge devices such as the Jetson Nano. This paper proposes automatic and effective attendance systems with the super-resolution technique to detect and recognize faces in low-resolution input. The experimental results show that using face data capture with a resolution of 40 × 40 pixels and a four-fold magnification results in a resolution of 160 × 160 pixels. Combining Face SRGAN with FaceNet architecture as the basis of face recognition can achieve an accuracy rate of 78.19% and an F1-Score of 81.13% with an average processing time of 1.61 seconds per frame on a PC and 14.55 seconds per frame on a Jetson Nano at an average of face recognition per frame of as many as up to 8 faces simultaneously.

In order to reduce Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottle plastic waste, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) provided reverse osmosis drinking water in some buildings. Water monitoring is needed to keep the water quality. Therefore, a water monitoring system based on Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), pH, and water flow was proposed. Since the UB buildings have good internet connection (WiFi), Internet of Things (IoT) was employed to the system to support real time monitoring. So, data of TDS, pH, and water flow can be periodically sent to cloud and displayed to a specific website. The system worked very well and the data can be summarized and used by operator as indicators of performance of the reverse osmosis machine. When water quality and performance decrease, operator must check filters membrane or water pump for further maintenance to support long life use. Although the sensors have been calibrated properly, some measurement errors occur. The measurement error percentages of TDS and pH are 0.62% and 0.94%, respectively. © 2022 IEEE.

The rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology has enabled the widespread deployment of health monitoring systems. Traditionally, the health monitoring system has been limited by centralized processing and storage in the cloud, leading to latency issues and potential data loss. This paper introduces a smart sleep monitoring system based on edge computing, utilizing microservices architecture and caching techniques. The proposed system employs edge computing to enable data processing closer to the source, reducing latency and improving real-time monitoring capabilities. Caching is employed to reduce database load and optimize random access memory (RAM) usage. This research addresses latency and response time challenges on IoT health monitoring platforms in environments with poor network quality while optimizing database load and resource usage on Jetson Nano as the edge computing device. Using Electrocardiogram (ECG) data as input, the proposed system yields impressive performance metrics. The research results indicate that the proposed system can increase throughput by 26.92 KB/s, reduce response time by 18.8 ms, and decrease latency by 20.86 ms compared to the previous work. Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) integration reduces CPU usage by approximately 40% and RAM usage by about 81.24%.
