In the present work, electrodeposition and electronucleation of cobalt on a glassy carbon electrode from a type-IV deep eutectic solvent, mixture of CoCl2·6H2O and ethylene glycol, were studied. It was found, by cyclic voltammetry, that cathodic efficiencies of Co electrodeposition were high for both cases without and with supporting electrolyte, yielding their values of 95% and 96%, respectively, which helped to consider negligible contribution of side reaction during the electrodeposition process. The selection of used supporting electrolyte concentration was based on Gibbs free energy for nucleation criterion. The presence of supporting electrolyte improved the voltammogram’s shape and reduction current density by controlling the system under diffusional regime. From chronoamperometry, it was established that the instantaneous nucleation was confirmed to be predominant at lower deposition potentials (i.e., E -0.92 V) during the Co electrodeposition. Current density transients of the Co(II) system could be analyzed by the three-dimensional nucleation and diffusion-controlled growth model of Co metallic nuclei, to derive kinetic parameters such as frequency of nucleation, A, number of active sites, N0, and diffusion coefficient, D, of the Co (II) in type-IV DES system. Moreover, excellent quality of Co electrodeposits with different morphological features was obtained from the type-IV eutectic mixture and it was even better without the use of the supporting electrolyte, for the same applied potential and electrodeposition time. Surface characterization methods, including scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy, have revealed the presence of high purity electrodeposited Co nanoparticles on the electrode surfaces. The Mekong River Basin (MRB) is crucial for the livelihoods of over 60 million people across six Southeast Asian countries. Understanding long-term sediment changes is crucial for management and contingency plans, but the sediment concentration data in the MRB are extremely sporadic, making analysis challenging. This study focuses on reconstructing long-term suspended sediment concentration (SSC) data using a novel semi-supervised machine learning (ML) model. The key idea of this approach is to exploit abundant available hydroclimate data to reduce training overfitting rather than solely relying on sediment concentration data, thus enhancing the accuracy of the employed ML models. Extensive experiments on daily hydroclimate and SSC data obtained from 1979 to 2019 at the three main stations (i.e., Chiang Saen, Nong Khai, and Mukdahan) are conducted to demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method compared to the state-of-the-art supervised techniques (i.e., Random Forest, XGBoost, CatBoost, MLP, CNN, and LSTM), and surpasses existing semi-supervised methods (i.e., CoReg, ⊓ Model, ICT, and Mean Teacher). This approach is the first semi-supervised method to reconstruct sediment data in the field and has the potential for broader application in other river systems. © 2024 The Author(s)

A physical model representing an underdamped free oscillation of a cantilever beam is constructed. The model is incorporated into a pSPICE Analog Behavioral Model (ABM) in order to construct a circuit schematic that generates a model-based waveform representing that of the experiment. A strain gage is employed to sense the change in strain in the oscillating cantilever beam. The frequency and damping ratio of oscillation of the cantilever are determined by means of curve fitting. Experiment and pSPICE ABM results show an excellent agreement. © 2019 IEEE.

The integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) intouniversity-level academic writing presents both opportunities and challenges,particularly in relation to cognitive dissonance (CD). This work explores howGenAI serves as both a trigger and amplifier of CD, as students navigateethical concerns, academic integrity, and self-efficacy in their writingpractices. By synthesizing empirical evidence and theoretical insights, weintroduce a hypothetical construct of GenAI-induced CD, illustrating thepsychological tension between AI-driven efficiency and the principles oforiginality, effort, and intellectual ownership. We further discuss strategiesto mitigate this dissonance, including reflective pedagogy, AI literacyprograms, transparency in GenAI use, and discipline-specific task *** approaches reinforce critical engagement with AI, fostering a balancedperspective that integrates technological advancements while safeguarding humancreativity and learning. A novel cost function to improve the performance of neural networks in system modelling is proposed in this paper, the exponential quadratic cost function. This cost function combines the strength of penalizing errors exponentially and the feasibility of quadratic function in finding global minima. By applying the exponential quadratic cost function, the learning algorithm is expected to have an improved ability to minimize the difference between system output and model output. Simulations by using a test system with strong nonlinear dynamics were conducted to prove the effectiveness of the proposed cost function. The results show that the network trained using the exponential quadratic cost function performs better in emulating the test system in transient region. © 2019 IEEE.

Indonesia is the world's third-largest cocoa producer and exporter after Ghana and Pantai Gading. Cocoa is in great demand by people in various parts of the world because Cocoa can be processed into chocolate in food and drinks that benefit the community. One approach that is often used to evaluate cocoa land suitability is a parametric approach with a square root. The square root is part of the parametric approach in evaluating land suitability by assigning a value at a different limiting level to the nature of the land. On a standard scale, it is given a maximum weight of 100 to a minimum value of 0 then the land suitability class calculation is based on the square root. The stages of this research are: 1) Collecting secondary data and basic maps such as climate data, administrative maps, geological maps, soil type maps, and land use maps, 2) Making maps of land units 3) Preliminary surveys, 4) Sampling and analysis of soil samples in the laboratory, 5) analysis of the land and climate suitability, 5) Determination of actual and potential land suitability. The method used in this research is a parametric approach (Square root by Khiddir). The results showed that the parametric method's land suitability class (square root) was N1 (not suitable at present) at the observation points of profiles 1, 3, and 5. In contrast, the S3 land suitability class was found in profile 4. Limiting factors such as annual temperature, slope, soil depth, and coarse fragments are limiting factors that are difficult to repair. A hydrographic survey can be a cumbersome sometimes. The data can be sparse, providing it can be costly, and it took a lot of manpower and time. Space-borne data like multispectral images can be a helpful tool towards hydrographic survey, especially in the shallow water area. The company like EOMAP and TCARTA make use of Satellite-Derived Bathymetry (SDB) as a tool and product. Would it be great if it also can be applied in Malaysia, especially on the low-risk job or survey planning? Enlarging the survey area and providing a continuous and detailed water depth information is the main objective in this research. In order to complement with convenience and cost reduction, the author used Landsat 8 "(free downloadable images)"in this research. Structuring the procedure is the central part of the process involving pre-processing and processing step until the final product obtained. In this research, the author used various kind of bathymetry algorithms such as Single-Band Algorithm (SBA), Green-Band Algorithm (GBA), and Stumpf. Moreover, the author also uses Principal Component Analysis (PCA) tool from ArcMap and Spear Relative Water Depth: Log-Ratio Transform tool from ENVI to derived bathymetry. All of this bathymetry algorithm gives out a different concept with a different statistical approach. The final result then will be compared and evaluated with Single-Beam Echosounder data (ground truth). © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The studies of bioethanol production are being intensively explored over the past years in the provision of biofuel. This has been long recognized as the best alternative for a renewable energy resource to overcome the problem of the depletion of fossil resources. Indonesia's main agricultural sector, sugarcane industry, has shown promise in supplying sugarcane bagasse (SCB) as a feedstock for the second generation of bioethanol production. In this study, the techno-economic analysis of the sugarcane bagasse from the bioethanol production plant was explored, and the viability of bioethanol production based on the biomass generated from a local sugarcane factory was evaluated. All the costs that will be incurred during a 20-year operating period for a 203 ktons bioethanol production plant from SCB is $231 million, with a payback period of 6.19 years. The potential amount of bioethanol produced from SCB of this plant is 30.19 ML/year with the production cost (levelized cost of bioethanol, LCOB) of $0.59 per liter of ethanol produced. Overall, SCB bioethanol still carries better competitiveness at lower selling price in comparison with the latest price regulation by the Indonesian government ($0.85/L). © 2023, The Authors. Roadblocks to Attracting Students to Software Testing Careers: Comparisons of Replicated Studies

Context. Recently, a family of studies highlighted the unpopularity of software testing careers among undergraduate students in software engineering and computer science courses. The original study and its replications explored the perception of students in universities in four countries (Canada, China, India, and Malaysia), and indicated that most students do not consider a career in software testing as an option after graduation. This scenario represents a problem for the software industry since the lack of skilled testing professionals might decrease the quality of software products and increase the number of unsuccessful projects. Goal. The present study aims to replicate, in Brazil, the studies conducted in the other four countries to establish comparisons and support the development of strategies to improve the visibility and importance of software testing among undergraduate students across the globe. Method. We followed the same protocol in the original study to collect data using a questionnaire and analyzed the answers using descriptive statistics and qualitative data analysis. Results. Our findings indicate similarities among the results obtained in Brazil in comparison to those obtained from other countries. We observed that students are not motivated to follow a testing career in the software industry based on a belief that testing activities lack challenges and opportunities for continuous learning. Conclusions. In summary, students seem to be interested in learning more about software testing. However, the lack of discussions about the theme in software development courses, as well as the limited offer of courses focused on software quality at the university level reduce the visibility of this area, which causes a decrease in the interest in this career. © 2022, CC BY.

Automatic watering and fertilizing with microcontrol wemos D1 R2 based on IoT (internet of things)

Watering and liquid fertilization carried out by plant owners are still manual, where the owner's involvement in these two things requires a long free time until the plants are wet and adequate fertilization is achieved. In other conditions, more attention to the survival and maintenance of plants through watering and fertilization is an absolute necessity so that plants do not wilt easily and eventually die. A solution for watering and fertilizing liquids is automatically offered through the design of watering and fertilizing liquids with a microcontroller as a control center based on Internet of Things communication. The tool is designed to automatically water and fertilize plants and generate a remote monitoring system for soil moisture using the *** application. The method used in realizing this design includes several stages, namely system block diagram planning, electrical and mechanical system planning, software design, and system testing to prove the tool can work properly according to the initial design. Supporting components for controlling watering and liquid fertilization using Wemos D1 R1, Capacitive soil moisture sensor as a soil moisture sensor, Real-Time Clock (RTC) module as a fertilizer timer. Relay that functions as a switch to turn the pump on and off. The results of the performance of the designed tool can do watering automatically when the soil moisture level is below 20% and will stop when the soil moisture is more than 40%. Meanwhile, liquid fertilization will automatically work according to a predetermined time. The existing monitoring system is accessed using smartphones and computers with the help of the *** application as long as the device is connected to the internet network.
