Resonant converters are widely used for voltage regulator applications. The basic converters i.e., Series resonant Converter (SRC) and Parallel Resonant Converter (PRC) are having some merits and limitations. These are addressed in multi element topologies at the cost of adding extra elements. This work takes up the SRC and reports a combined frequency and duty ratio control for performance optimization of the SRC. The key issue of SRC is that the voltage cannot be controlled at a low Q (i.e. Quality factor) operation. For example, at no load Q becomes zero making the converter inert to frequency variation. This however can be eliminated by pulse width modulation technique. Duty ratio can be properly controlled to achieve the output voltage at an extended load range. The work further takes up challenge to make efficiency optimized. For this a combined control of duty ratio and frequency are proposed. Efficiency Optimization Control (EOC) requires two voltage sensors (one at the input side and another at the output) and a current sensor. Following this, a new minimum rms current algorithm is developed that only requires a current and a voltage sensor. All the proposed techniques are simulated and verified using MATLAB/Simulink.

Simultaneous multislice (SMS) imaging is a one of the acceleration technique of magnetic resonance imaging. SMS requires accurate sensitivity distributions in the slice plane for each receiving coil. This requirement is difficult to satisfy in practice, limiting the applications of this imaging technique. Here, images are reconstructed by applying deep learning and amplitude modulation to each slice image. Simulation experiments show that image reconstruction can be achieved for both real- and complex-valued images. Image quality tends to decrease with increasing number of simultaneously acquired images. It is also shown that a larger difference in the phase modulation coefficients between slices tends to increase the quality of the reconstructed images. Simulation experiments and initial MR imaging experiments show promising results for this method. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper proposes a pulse skipping based combined frequency and duty ratio control for a series resonant converter which is targeted for voltage regulator applications. The proposed pulse skipping control combines duty ratio based phase shifted control for maintaining output voltage at its reference value, along with frequency based control which assists in development of the pulse skipping algorithm. This algorithm is structured so that pulses are skipped in generated gate pulses for upper switching devices present in the converter whenever the output voltage tries to be higher than its specified maximum value or be lower than its specified minimum value. These maximum and minimum voltages are determined based on its reference voltage and allowable voltage ripple within which the oscillations in output voltage are desired to be in. The converter system with the proposed control method is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment to validate its performance under transient conditions e.g., variation in load resistance and output voltage reference. The system performance with proposed method is also compared with conventional method where the proposed control demonstrates its superiority by significantly minimizing the output voltage ripple.

The demand for electrical energy is always fluctuating, influenced by several factors such as household, industrial, commercial, and other public service electricity usage. Moreover, estimates of future electricity demand play a crucial role in the operation of the power system, ranging from power generation planning to power flow analysis and energy system operation costs. electrical power forecasting aims to prevent sudden decreases or increases in electricity demand. Moreover, in tropical countries, the wet season and rivers offer many opportunities for micro-hydro potentials that can be harnessed in combination with solar energy. To manage the forecasting modeling, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is utilized CNN for short-term forecasting in Microhydro Power Plants. The anticipated outcomes aim to contribute to effective electricity demand management, facilitating the estimates of variation in microhydro power generation.

Approximate inference methods like the Laplace method, Laplace approximations and variational methods, amongst others, are popular methods when exact inference is not feasible due to the complexity of the model or the abundance of data. In this paper we propose a hybrid approximate method called Low-Rank Variational Bayes correction (VBC), that uses the Laplace method and subsequently a Variational Bayes correction in a lower dimension, to the joint posterior mean. The cost is essentially that of the Laplace method which ensures scalability of the method, in both model complexity and data size. Models with fixed and unknown hyperparameters are considered, for simulated and real examples, for small and large data sets.

The use of the federated learning technique has grown in the medical field of diagnostic imaging, with a large number of publications and applications in clinical practice. However, the lack of knowledge of the training data by the central server and the clients among themselves raises concerns about the local composition of the databases, raising questions about the occurrence of image artifacts and their impact on the final performance of the global model. Using databases with a selection of areas of interest for mammograms distributed in an unbalanced way to 03 clients, simulations of mammography image artifacts were proceeded, with their insertion in the databases on different scenarios. An open access convolutional neural network model (EfficientNetB7) was adapted to classify the images regarding the presence and suspicion of microcalcifications according to the BI-RADS system. By measuring the F1-score, the performance of the neural network was verified without the presence of artifacts, after the insertion of artifacts and after the exclusion of images with artifacts. The results showed an improvement in the performance of the central model when opting to keep the images with artifact in the training databases. © 2023 IEEE.

This research aims to create a virtual reality-based practice system that simulates real-stage performance environments, assisting amateur dancers in overcoming stage fright and practicing group choreography that is difficult to achieve during individual practice. In this study, users can engage in performance simulations within the created system using the HTC VIVE virtual reality device. Within the system, we have developed a virtual stage space system that only requires a 2m x 3.5m physical area to simulate a large virtual stage experience. Users can also simulate choreographic positioning with virtual dance partners within this system, providing amateur dancers with group dance rehearsal practice opportunities that are not feasible during solo practice. Additionally, by creating three different audience modes, we aim to help users simulate various audience scenarios they may encounter during a performance. The system includes a recording feature that captures users' simulated performances, allowing them to review their actions and receive feedback after practice. © 2024 IEEE.

This study presents a comprehensive strategy for enhancing the sustainability and dissemination of biogas systems in rural and small island communities, with Manado City, Indonesia, as a focal case. The Symbiosis Bioenergy (Symnergy) model, operational since 2018, converts organic waste into renewable energy while addressing socio-economic and environmental challenges. Employing a System Dynamics (SD) approach, the research evaluated three scenarios—Business-As-Usual (BAU), Moderate, and Optimistic—over a decade (2023–2033). Quantitative results show that under the BAU scenario, sustainability remains critically low at 28.61%, categorized as "Less Sustainable." The Moderate scenario significantly improves to 71.62%, classified as "Sufficiently Sustainable," while the Optimistic scenario reaches 78.90%, rated as "Sustainable." These results underline the transformative impact of strategic policies, such as community-based training programs, trust-building initiatives, and government subsidies, which drive a 63.1% increase in sustainability from BAU to Optimistic scenarios. Moreover, these interventions reduce CO₂ emissions, improve waste management, and stimulate economic resilience. This study's novelty lies in integrating socio-economic and environmental factors within a dynamic SD framework, offering actionable and scalable policy recommendations. The findings provide clear evidence of the critical role of community empowerment and strategic interventions in achieving long-term sustainability for biogas systems, filling key gaps in existing literature and setting a benchmark for renewable energy strategies in similar regions globally. © 2025 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

Eye-tracking studies focused on art galleries and museums within the realm of Instagram, especially in the Indonesian context, are notably scant. This investigation elucidates the user interaction and experience of the art gallery’s Instagram account, @galerinasional. Employing a quantitative approach, we implemented eye-tracking experiments using the well-known online eye-tracking software RealEye. The study participants were followers of the National Gallery of Indonesia’s (Galnas) Instagram profile, seven women and three men, in two age brackets: 18–24 years (n = 5) and 25–34 years (n = 5). The experimental protocol required participants to execute five tasks centered on locating exhibition details and artwork on the Galnas Instagram platform, with a duration of 100 s allocated to each task. The Participant Quality Grade (PQG), examination duration, optimal browser dimensionality, K-factor mean, gaze and fixation frequencies, and heat maps were determined for the participants. The key findings are as follows. (1) The participants’ PQG scores were predominantly between 4 and 6. (2) Investigative browsing typically exceeded the 100-s limit. (3) The consensus on the ideal browser dimensions hovered around 1,368.6 × 814.8 px. (4) The K-factor mean across participants tended toward K > 0. (5) The average gaze occurrence was 27 items per second for most participants. (6) A noticeable disparity in fixation counts was observed between the two age groups, with individuals aged 25–34 demonstrating prolonged engagement with Galnas’ content. Transparent conductive oxides exhibit attractive optical nonlinearity with ultrafast response and giant refractive index change near the epsilon-near-zero(ENZ) wavelength, originating from the intraband dynamics of conduction electrons. The optical nonlinearity of ENZ materials has been explained by using the overall-effective-mass and the overall-scattering-time of electrons in the extended Drude model. However, their response to optical excitation is yet the last building block to complete the theory. In this paper, the concept of thermal energy is theoretically proposed to account for the total energy of conduction electrons exceeding their thermal equilibrium value. The time-varying thermal energy is adopted to describe the transient optical response of indium-tin-oxide(ITO), a typical ENZ material. A spectrally-resolved femtosecond pump-probe experiment was conducted to verify our theory. By correlating the thermal energy with the pumping density, both the giant change and the transient response of the permittivity of ITO can be predicted. The results in this work provide a new methodology to describe the transient permittivities of ENZ materials, which will benefit the design of ENZ-based nonlinear photonic devices.
