Effect of exposure to a light-emitting diode (LED) on the physicochemical characteristics of natural latex biomembranes used to treat diabetic ulcers

Purpose: Natural latex biomembrane has shown high therapeutic potential for the treatment of diabetic ulcers when associated with phototherapy. In this study, physical and chemical alterations in the latex biomembranes were evaluated after exposure to light-emitting diode (LED) irradiation and after contact with NaCl solution. Methods: There were three experimental groups: natural latex biomembranes (1) in natura;(2) after 35 min of LED light irradiation;and (3) after immersion in NaCl 0.9 g% solution. The samples were analyzed by tensile strength test, thermogravimetry, contact angle wettability, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Results: The biomembranes that were submitted to contact with NaCl aqueous solution or exposure to LED did not undergo impairment of mechanical resistance. The thermogravimetry analysis indicated that increasing temperature led to mass loss in all samples, referring to their decomposition temperatures. In the wettability test, biomembranes exposed to LED showed a significant reduction in the contact angle between 0 and 10 min, indicating an increase in hydrophilicity, suggesting water storage capacity. The Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry assay showed that there was a more significant reduction in vibration intensity after immersion in NaCl solution compared to untreated biomembranes. An increase in the intensity of the entire spectrum of biomembranes exposed to LED was observed in comparison with the other samples, which may be related to photodegradation caused by LED light irradiation. Conclusion: The biomembranes underwent significant changes in its chemical structure after being subjected to different types of exposure and maintained its elasticity and tensile strength properties, in addition to showing good water retention capacity after exposure to LED. Thus, it maintains many of its properties for application as a tissue-regenerating biomaterial, even when subjected to LED irradiation and a humid environment. © 20

A discontinuous Galerkin time-domain scheme is formulated and implemented to analyze three-dimensional transient lasing dynamics. The proposed scheme solves a coupled system of the Maxwell and the rate equations. The atomic transitions through different energy levels are quantum-mechanically described by a four-level two-electron model, while the electro-magnetic interactions are treated using the Maxwell equations. The resulting solver accounts for the Pauli Exclusion Principle and permits robust simulation of lasing dynamics under optical pumping. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the applicability and the accuracy of the proposed scheme.

This study focuses on extending the duration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by improving their power systems and introduces an extended endurance system (EES) for UAVs using a combination of lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) and lithium-ion capacitors (LiCs). Subsequently, a novel control strategy is proposed within the EES to enhance the UAV's endurance by improving the LiB's utilization. The EES control strategy incorporates the Lic's utilization to supplement the load with additional energy once the LiB is depleted. This implementation extends the flight duration and surpasses the duration extension resulting from reducing the LiB concentration polarization phenomenon due to the LiC. The hardware experiment and the simulation verify the proposed EES. The results indicate that the extension of UAV's endurance brought about by LiC is limited. Notably, the extension in endurance is primarily attributed to the innovative control strategy implemented within the proposed EES. Due to the LiC, this strategy significantly enhances the LiB's utilization by mitigating the concentration polarization phenomenon associated with it. As a result, the LiB's energy (utilization%) experiences substantial increments of 16.0 %, 25.5 %, and 22.7 % during hovering, altitude variation, and loaded hovering scenarios, respectively. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

The development of telematics technology is increasing rapidly and this capability is supported by multimedia devices or even telematics that supports the development of multimedia itself. For instance, in the configuration of telematics with websites to control air traffic with a voice communication system, multimedia applications serve as devices for monitoring the use of this technology. Consider the research trends, this study aims to evaluate the current development and trends of research on telematics and its multimedia applications through bibliometric analysis over the last two decades and a half (1999-2023). Several publication characteristics were analyzed, including the most cited articles in this field. This study uses data from the Scopus database to evaluate the productivity, impact, countries, research institutions, authors, and research performance of journals based on the impact factor, citation counts, and h-index. According to the result, the annual number of publications on this topic fluctuates but tends to increase, with Germany being the most prolific country producing articles in this field. Additionally, the most researched telematics and its multimedia applications and most cited lists offer insight into the future. This is the first study to use bibliometric analysis to evaluate research on telematics and its multimedia applications and is expected to be useful for telematics researchers by identifying potential research directions. In addition, this research serves as a valuable resource for future researchers and practitioners. However, improvements can be made by incorporating additional analysis, such as content analysis. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper demonstrates the seamless fabrication of optoelectronic memory by integrating HfSe 2 as a charge-trapping layer in a MOS memory structure. Through a spin coating technique, solution-processable HfSe 2 flakes with average thicknesses of 2 nm were deposited between the tunneling and blocking oxide layers. The charge-trapping material distribution and thickness were explored by Atomic Force Microscopy and X-ray Diffraction Spectroscopy. The electrical characterization of MOS memory revealed a memory window of 5.5 Volts under ±16 Volts biasing. Furthermore, the memory endurance exceeds 10 4 electrical programming and erasing cycles. The retention test performed at room temperature showed that the memory device is expected to lose only 10% of the stored charges after 10 years. Under light stimuli (405nm wavelength and output power ~ 20 mW) with electrical readout voltage, the MOS memory showed an increase in the memory window from 5.5 Volts to 6.5 Volts.

This paper proposes a performance analysis of using a static volt-amp-reactive (VAR) compensator for a three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) operating as a single-phase induction generator. The study proposes appropriate capacitor for building up voltage supplying power to load with static VAR for regulating terminal voltage. The simulation model is analyzed by using MATLAB/Simulink under various conditions such as reactive power supplied, dynamic response, steady state, building up voltage for startup, linear load, non-linear load and harmonics in system. From the study (based on the study, the findings revealed it is found) that using the static VAR compensator connected in parallel with loads for supplying reactive power to the load systems is needed for maintaining terminal voltage.

Integrity of Cyber-Physical Discrete Event Systems under covert actuator attacks

The connectivity requirements brought by Industry 4.0 pose new challenges for cyber-physical systems (CPS), such as the strengthening of their resilience against cyberattacks. In this paper, we use the discrete event systems (DES) formalism to develop an approach that aims to protect CPS from covert actuator attacks using event permutation maps. In this approach, properly selected controllable events are permuted on the plant's site so that attacks on actuators do not have the impact on the plant as expected by the intruder and unsafe states are avoided. Furthermore, a property termed AE-protectability is presented to characterize the necessary and sufficient conditions for the system to be protected against such attacks through event permutations. The proposed approach is applied to a case study where the Identification of the attack is done without causing damage while maintaining the integrity of the system.

The state of the art of artificial intelligence (AI) for various medical imaging applications leads to enhanced accuracy, analysis, visualization, and interpretation of chest Xray (CXR) images for diagnosis. Many diseases are diagnosed based on CXR images. In this paper, two types of abnormalities are diagnosed based on AI techniques. The two classes are atelectasis and cardiomegaly. The acquired images are segmented to localize the chest region and then enhanced using gray-level transformation methods. The enhanced images are passed to two pretrained convolutional neural networks (CNNs): shuffle and mobile net. The transfer learning approach is utilized in this stage. The automated features are extracted from the last fully connected layer. Each CNN deserves to have the two most representative features for the two classes. These four features are passed to support the vector machine classifier. The training accuracy reached 100% and the test accuracy was 96.7%. The proposed method can be extended to be a milestone in the classification of all heart-lung diseases that can be diagnosed using chest X-ray images. © 2022 IEEE.

3D city models are an important cornerstone in the development of digital twin cities, allowing for various analyses and simulations. CityGML, as an open standard for 3D city models, emphasizes five main aspects: scale or level of detail (LoD), semantics, geometry, topology, and appearance. One of the important elements in CityGML 3D city models is representation of vegetation. Vegetation in CityGML, especially individual trees, is still limited in terms of detail and resolution, reducing its effectiveness for specific applications. This paper proposes a graph-based conceptual model for individual trees that conforms to the CityGML v2.0 specification. The model refers to the morphological structure of a tree consisting of roots, trunk, and crown (including branches, twigs, and leaves), and considers the five main aspects of CityGML. By enhancing semantic information and geometric details, the model aims to provide an information-rich and realistic representation of individual trees in a 3D city environment. The 3D tree model created based on this conceptual model may be applicable in the development of digital twin urban forests and virtual forest simulations that utilize immersive technologies such as the metaverse. This research opens up new opportunities in the development of solitary vegetation objects through CityGML ADE by including more detailed semantic and topological information. © Author(s) 2024.

This paper analyzes a hybrid power system for an independent power system for Baan Khlongrua community, which is a village far from the transmission line system so that the community has electricity available all the time. The designed system consists of solar cells, batteries, inverters and small power turbines. Therefore, this research assesses the economic value and analyzes the system's sensitivity. It is assumed that the electricity demand will increase by 4.25% per year. The analysis data found that in the first year, the cost of energy (COE) was 0.137 /kWh, the second year was 0.132 /kWh, and the third year was 0.127 /kWh. Year 1 has a high COE due to system design being approximately 10% larger than current demand, and in years 4, 5, 6, COE will increase. As a result of the designed system, it will not produce enough electricity to meet the electrical load of the village. Therefore, a diesel generator compensates during the power shortage, causing the CO2 value in the year 4,5,6 to 3,780 kg/yr 2,898 kg/yr 3,265 kg/yr increased. This CO2 value, therefore, affects the COE increase, and COE decreases from 0.137 to 0.127 /kWh. the payback period of the system can be quickly achieved. © 2022 IEEE.
