Long short-term memory (LSTM) model-based reinforcement learning for nonlinear mass spring damper system control

The Neural Networks (NN) model which is incorporated in the control system design has been studied, and the results show better performance than the mathematical model approach. However, some studies consider that only offline NN model learning and does not use the online NN model learning directly on the control system. As a result, the controller's performance decreases due to changes in the system environment from time to time. The Reinforcement Learning (RL) method has been investigated intensively, especially Model-based RL (Mb-RL) to predict system dynamics. It has been investigated and performs well in making the system more robust to environmental changes by enabling online learning. This paper proposes online learning of local dynamics using the Mb-RL method by utilizing Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model. We consider Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme as an agent of the Mb-RL method to control the regulatory trajectory objectives with a random shooting policy to search for the minimum objective function. A nonlinear Mass Spring Damper (NMSD) system with parameter-varying linear inertia is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The simulation results show that the system can effectively control high-oscillating nonlinear systems with good performance.

Objective: Glucose homeostasis is the only way to manage diabetic progression as all medications used do not cure diabetes. This study was aimed at verifying the feasibility of lowering glucose with non-invasive ultrasonic stimulation. Methods: The ultrasonic device was homemade and controlled via a mobile application on the smartphone. Diabetes was induced in Sprague–Dawley rats through high-fat diets followed by streptozotocin injection. The treated acupoint CV12 was at the middle of the xiphoid and umbilicus of the diabetic rats. Parameters of ultrasonic stimulation were an operating frequency of 1 MHz, pulse repetition frequency of 15 Hz, duty cycle of 10% and sonication time of 30 min for a single treatment. Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that instantly merges digital pictures with the real scene. The perspective near-eye display is a key module of AR, through which computer-generated pictures or videos can be displayed in the existing environment. The purpose of this research is to establish the system structure of an augmented reality near-eye display device and to design the off-axis two-piece reflective aspherical mirror. Because AR glasses are wearable and are worn close to the eyes, not only the optical performance of the display but also the clear vision of the user needs to be considered. In this study, an off-axis two-piece reflective aspherical mirror is used as the optical system of the AR for displaying the digital image. The micro-display is placed at the focal point of the optical system to form a digital image, and the horizontal movement of the micro-display along the optical axis is controlled by a precise displacement mechanism so that the patient with uncorrected myopia or hyperopia can see the digital picture and real scene. Because the right and left micro-displays move horizontally independently, the user can see the images on the AR device, which becomes the biggest feature of this study.

In electric vehicles, the dynamic nature of driving conditions, speed variations, and fluctuations in loads introduce non-stationary loads on electric motors. These non-uniform load distributions can result in mechanical imbalance faults within the motor, leading to increased vibrations, reduced motor performance, and potential mechanical stress on its components. The development of advanced diagnostic methods is crucial for detecting and addressing these mechanical balance faults in electric motors. This article introduces a novel approach for diagnosing mechanical unbalance faults using local iterative filter decomposition, specifically designed for electric motors operating under non-stationary load conditions. The experimental results demonstrate that the application of iterative filter decomposition yields superior outcomes compared to the absence of decomposition. By employing this method, the algorithm achieves a classification accuracy exceeding 80% for all types of unbalances, including the detection of low-speed rotation unbalance faults, which are known to be challenging to identify.

Radio frequency devices based on the state-of-the-art gate-all-around (GAA) nanosheet CFET process suffer from extra parasitic capacitance due to the stacked architecture compared to planar or FinFET devices. In this study, we first calibrate the TCAD process simulation model to experimental data. Subsequently, the model is applied to the simulation of RF characteristics of CFET devices with similar design as our real devices. Subsequently, the influence of various design parameters of the CFET structure are investigated, with emphasis on high frequency characteristics. The optimal design for CFET-based RF device is determined, which resulted in and fT and fMax improvements by 3.74 times and 8.44 times, respectively. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

Adaptive Sinusoidal interference cancellation (ASIC) based on recursive least square (RLS) algorithm is proposed. RLS algorithm allows us to use a recursion instead of inversion of the autocorrelation matrix to evaluate the optimum weights. The main advantage of RLS algorithm is that it exhibits extremely high rate of convergence. Computer simulations are performed to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm. © 2020 IEEE.

Supercapacitors are known for longer cycle life and faster charging rate compared to batteries. However, the energy density of supercapacitors requires improvement to expand their application space. To raise the energy density of redox supercapacitors, this work demonstrates electro-polymerization on both sides of electrodes to increase material loading, reduce overall device mass, and consequently increase the capacitance, power, and energy density of supercapacitors. We achieved an energy density of 1823 mWh kg -1 and a power density of 16.5 W kg -1 with a wide potential window of 3 V.

Convolutional Neural Networks get increasingly importance nowadays as they enable machines to interact with the surrounding environment, which paves the way for computer vision applications. FPGA implementations of CNN architectures have higher speed and lower power consumption compared to GPUs and CPUs. This paper proposes a high-speed hardware accelerator on FPGA for SqueezeNet CNN to accelerate its processing without decreasing the classification accuracy. Several ideas are applied to solve the memory bottleneck issue such as using Ping-Pong memory and deploying several FIFOs in the design. The architecture is built as a pipelined unit to process SqueezeNet CNN layer by layer. Different parallelism techniques are applied while processing the convolution layers to speedup layers processing. Moreover, the proposed accelerator classifies 248.76 fps at a frequency of 100MHz, and 427.4 fps at a frequency of 172 MHz. The proposed accelerator is implemented on Virtex-7 FPGA, and overcomes Geforce RTX 2080Ti GPU and several SqueezeNet FPGA implementations. © 2021 IEEE.

Fishing is integral to Indonesia's economy and the livelihood of many citizens. Indonesian fishermen often spend long periods at sea with limited access to power, making energy efficiency crucial for mobile applications, especially those used for navigation and safety. AIS is vital for maritime navigation, providing real-time information on vessel locations, weather, and emergencies. However, high battery consumption can cause AIS apps to fail when needed most. This study aims to optimize battery consumption for a mobile app used by Indonesian fishermen by implementing techniques like batch data transmission, efficient background task management, and optimized location services. The effectiveness of these techniques was evaluated based on key performance indicators such as battery usage, latency, data transmission, and task completion rates. The results show a significant reduction in average battery usage from 3000 mAh to 2000 mAh and improved application performance with latency decreasing from 150 ms to 120 ms. Data transmission reduced by 10% and task completion rates increased from 85% to 95%. Further analysis revealed that Wi-Fi networks are more energy-efficient than cellular networks, with average battery usage of 1800 mAh compared to 2200 mAh. Enhancing the energy efficiency of mobile applications is crucial for users in remote areas with limited power resources. The implemented techniques improved the reliability and efficiency of the AIS application, thereby enhancing the safety and operational effectiveness of Indonesian fishermen at sea.

This paper presents a soft pre-charging scheme for a modular multilevel converter-based HVDC transmission system used to interconnect an offshore wind farm to an electrical network. The proposed scheme comprises five stages that are continuously repeated until the dc voltages of the converters reach the peak value of the grid voltage on the side of the HVDC inverter. During the first stage, two thyristors control the current drained from the grid by the HVDC inverter in order to charge the capacitors of two arms of the MMC. Later, during the $2_{2}^{nd},3^{rd}, 4^{th}$ and $5^{th}$ stages, the energy stored in the SM capacitors during the first stage is transferred to the others SM dc capacitors of the inverter. In addition, two additional stages, the $4^{th}$ and $5^{th}$, are used to transfer part of the energy stored in the inverter's submodules capacitors to the upper and lower SMs of the rectifier. Results of digital simulations obtained with the PSCAD/EMTDC, as well as the mathematical description of each energizing stage, will be presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. © 2021 IEEE.
