Superconducting microwave resonators are critical to quantum computing and sensing technologies. Additionally, they are common proxies for superconducting qubits when determining the effects of performance-limiting loss mechanisms such as from two-level systems (TLS). The extraction of these loss mechanisms is often performed by measuring the internal quality factor Qi as a function of power or temperature. In this work, we investigate large temporal fluctuations of Qi at low powers over periods of 12 to 16 hours (relative standard deviation σQi/Qi = 13%). These fluctuations are ubiquitous across multiple resonators, chips and cooldowns. We are able to attribute these fluctuations to variations in the TLS loss tangent due to two main indicators. First, measured fluctuations decrease as power and temperature increase. Second, for interleaved measurements, we observe correlations between low- and medium-power Qi fluctuations and an absence of correlations with high-power fluctuations. Agreement with the TLS loss tangent mean is obtained by performing measurements over a time span of a few hours. We hypothesize that, in addition to decoherence due to coupling to individual near-resonant TLS, superconducting qubits are affected by these observed TLS loss tangent fluctuations. © 2024, CC BY.

The existence of Covid-19 Pandemic become a challenge for teachers, where the teachers were forced to apply Online learning. Various kinds of online learning media were tried and used. One of Vocational High School (SMK) in Sidoarjo also applies online learning using WhatsApp on the subject of Digital System class X during the Covid-19 Pandemic. This study aims to look at the Effectiveness of Whatsapp in increasing student interest in Digital System Subjects during the Covid-19 Pandemic. This research uses descriptive qualitative research with survey method. The population of this study were 33 students of class X who had completed the digital system subjects during Covid-19 Pandemic. The instrument used was a questionnaire. The data collection technique was carried out by distributing online questionnaires through Google Form to 33 students of class X who had completed the digital system course during Covid-19 Pandemic. The analytical method used was an interactive model of Mile and Hubermen with 4 stages, including collecting data, formulating data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. The result of this research shows a negative response. It can be seen from the results of the study that students prefer to have face-To-face learning than online learning. Moreover, there are several obstacles experienced by students during the learning process using WhatsApp © 2020 IEEE.

Multi-regional analysis of biomass agriculture waste potential and bio-pellet development for electricity in Indonesia

The potential of renewable energy sources in each region would be different; hence, it requires multi-regional analysis in energy management, including inter-regional energy distribution. Biomass resources such as agricultural waste are one of the strategic energy sources in many countries. This study aims to map the biomass potential based on agricultural waste converted into bio-pellets and its utilization for electricity generation. Calculating and mapping biomass potential was carried out through the primary and secondary agricultural residues. Biomass conversion into bio-pellet refers to Austrian standards (ONORM M 7135). The agricultural waste is divided into primary and secondary agricultural residues. The amount of primary agricultural residues is estimated based on crop cultivation area, production, the ratio of crop residue product, and availability of plant residues. Meanwhile, secondary agricultural residues are estimated using the Residue Production Ratio (RPR). The results showed that the total energy potential of agricultural waste for bio-pellets in Indonesia was 2,708 million GJ/year, equivalent to an electrical power potential of 23,693 MW. Because of multi-regional, the biomass resource locations are distributed in Sumatra (6,755 MW), Java-Bali (11,406 MW), Kalimantan (1,647 MW), Sulawesi (1,471 MW) and Eastern Indonesia (1,279 MW). If this potential can be realized, it can support the energy transition for power generation to replace coal-based power plants in the long term.

Opposite polarity cycling recovery (OPCR) is proposed for the first time to completely restore a fatigued antiferroelectric (AFE) capacitor back to its initial state, thereby extending the endurance number of switching cycles for AFE-RAM. A comprehensive model exclusive to AFE with unipolar cycling is revealed toward the prospect of unlimited endurance, and the unipolar cycling with OPCR is experimentally demonstrated to be 5.6×10 11 cycles, while achieving the nondegradation and complete restoration of P r . Furthermore, the access scheme of 1T1C AFE-RAM is presented for the proposed alternate polarity operation.

This paper presents a soft pre-charging scheme for a modular multilevel converter-based HVDC transmission system used to interconnect an offshore wind farm to an electrical network. The proposed scheme comprises five stages that are continuously repeated until the dc voltages of the converters reach the peak value of the grid voltage on the side of the HVDC inverter. During the first stage, two thyristors control the current drained from the grid by the HVDC inverter in order to charge the capacitors of two arms of the MMC. Later, during the $2_{2}^{nd},3^{rd}, 4^{th}$ and $5^{th}$ stages, the energy stored in the SM capacitors during the first stage is transferred to the others SM dc capacitors of the inverter. In addition, two additional stages, the $4^{th}$ and $5^{th}$ , are used to transfer part of the energy stored in the inverter's submodules capacitors to the upper and lower SMs of the rectifier. Results of digital simulations obtained with the PSCAD/EMTDC, as well as the mathematical description of each energizing stage, will be presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Personalized medicine (PM) promises to transform healthcare by providingtreatments tailored to individual genetic, environmental, and lifestylefactors. However, its high costs and infrastructure demands raise concernsabout exacerbating health disparities, especially between high-income countries(HICs) and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). While HICs benefit fromadvanced PM applications through AI and genomics, LMICs often lack theresources necessary to adopt these innovations, leading to a wideninghealthcare divide. This paper explores the financial and ethical challenges ofPM implementation, with a focus on ensuring equitable access. The purpose of this work is to understand the fundamental connection between structural correlations and light localization in three-dimensional (3D) open scattering systems of finite size. We numerically investigate the transport of vector electromagnetic waves scattered by resonant electric dipoles spatially arranged in 3D space by stealthy hyperuniform disordered point patterns. Three-dimensional stealthy hyperuniform disordered systems are engineered with different structural correlation properties determined by their degree of stealthiness χ. Such fine control of exotic states of amorphous matter enables the systematic design of optical media that interpolate in a tunable fashion between uncorrelated random structures and crystalline materials. By solving the electromagnetic multiple scattering problem using Green's matrix spectral method, we establish a transport phase diagram that demonstrates a distinctive transition from a diffusive to a weak localization regime beyond a critical scattering density that depends on χ. The transition is characterized by studying the Thouless number and the spectral statistics of the scattering resonances. In particular, by tuning the χ parameter, we demonstrate large spectral gaps and suppressed subradiant proximity resonances, facilitating light localization. Moreover, consistently with previous studies, our results show a region of the transport phase diagram where the investigated scattering systems become transparent. Our work provides a systematic description of the transport and weak localization properties of light in stealthy hyperuniform structures and motivates the engineering of photonic systems with enhanced light-matter interactions for applications to both classical and quantum devices.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in intensive care units (ICU). The sudden episode of kidney failure may lead to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or deaths, and has been related to significantly increasing costs of ICU admissions and treatments. Early prediction of AKI inpatient mortality will help decision-making, and benefit resource allocation in ICU. Therefore, it is crucial to develop an early warning system for AKI prediction. We aimed to create a more comprehensive predictive model for 1-year AKI mortality. A cohort of 2,247 patients with AKI was assembled, of which the in-hospital mortality was 36.67%. Longitudinal data of each patient were collected from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC-III) dataset. An interpretable XGBoost risk model was developed and validated by 10-fold cross validation. Model predictors included 11 routinely collected AKI-related laboratory measurements, 8 complications of AKI, and demographic data. An artificial neural network (ANN) model was also developed in parallel for comparison. The XGBoost model demonstrated an area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.83, which was superior to ANN (AUC = 0.79). Our model was able to predict mortality of AKI in ICU with high accuracy. Our model can predict 1-year AKI mortality. Furthermore, it had great potential for identifying at-risk patients in ICU. These findings indicated that our approach might offer opportunities for better resource utilization and better administration of AKI. © 2021 SPIE.

When is heterogeneity in the composition of an autonomous robotic team beneficial and when is it detrimental? We investigate and answer this question in the context of a minimally viable model that examines the role of heterogeneous speeds in perimeter defense problems, where defenders share a total allocated speed budget. We consider two distinct problem settings and develop strategies based on dynamic programming and on local interaction rules. We present a theoretical analysis of both approaches and our results are extensively validated using simulations. Interestingly, our results demonstrate that the viability of heterogeneous teams depends on the amount of information available to the defenders. Moreover, our results suggest a universality property: across a wide range of problem parameters the optimal ratio of the speeds of the defenders remains nearly constant.
