Networked systems often relies on distributed algorithms to achieve a global computation goal with iterative local information exchanges between neighbor nodes. To preserve data privacy, a node may add a random noise to its original data for information exchange at each iteration. Nevertheless, a neighbor node can estimate other’s original data based on the information it received. The estimation accuracy and data privacy can be measured in terms of (ϵ, δ)-data-privacy, defined as the probability of ϵ-accurate estimation (the difference of an estimation and the original data is within ϵ) is no larger than δ (the disclosure probability). How to optimize the estimation and analyze data privacy is a critical and open issue. In this paper, a theoretical framework is developed to investigate how to optimize the estimation of neighbor’s original data using the local information received, named optimal distributed estimation. Then, we study the disclosure probability under the optimal estimation for data privacy analysis. We further apply the developed framework to analyze the data privacy of the privacy-preserving average consensus algorithm and identify the optimal noises for the algorithm. This paper proposed an arctangent function based integral augmented nonlinear differentiator (IAND) for obtaining of the noise-less derivative signal from a noisy measurement signal. The basic idea of proposed IAND with high noise-attenuation effect is to establish the differentiator by expanding the signal dynamics with extra state variable representing the integrated noisy measurement, then with the integral of measurement as input, the IAND is formulated to achieve better noise suppression ability without appreciable delay. Moreover, the convergence characteristic and anti-noise property in the frequency domain are analyzed via singular perturbation theory and describing function method, respectively. The simulation comparison results with other differentiators show the superiority of IAND in noise suppression.

Autonomous systems are able to make decisions and potentially take actions without direct human intervention, which requires some knowledge about the system and its environment as well as goal-oriented reasoning. In computer systems, one can derive such behavior from the concept of a rational agent with autonomy (“control over its own actions”), reactivity (“react to events from the environment”), proactivity (“act on its own initiative”), and sociality (“interact with other agents”) as fundamental properties \n[1]\n. Autonomous systems will undoubtedly pervade into our everyday lives, and we will find them in a variety of domains and applications including robotics, transportation, health care, communications, and entertainment to name a few. \nThe articles in this month’s special issue cover concepts and fundamentals, architectures and techniques, and applications and case studies in the exciting area of self-awareness in autonomous systems.

Modular Fault Diagnosis in Fixed-Block Railway Signaling systems

The diagnosis of possible faults in railway signaling systems is an important issue to provide safe travel and transportation in railways. Signaling system designers have to consider the possible faults which may occur in railway field components both on the requirements preparation phase and on the development phase of the signaling system software or namely, the interlocking system. Although the diagnosis of different unobservable faults is relatively hard, especially for large scale railway fields, this complexity can be overcome by using the Discrete Event system (DES) based modular diagnosis approach which is explained in this paper. The main advantage of using such modular approach for fault diagnosis in fixed-block signaling systems is the inspection of the diagnosability of the whole system with respect to its subsystems (railway field components). In this study, the diagnosability of the railway field equipment and the whole system is also explained with a case study. © 2016

Distributed trajectory optimization for multiple solar-powered UAVs target tracking in urban environment by Adaptive Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm

Aiming at the trajectory optimization of the solar-powered UAVs (SUAVs) cooperative target tracking in urban environment, the distributed model predictive control (DMPC) method based on Adaptive Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm (AGOA) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the cooperative target tracking problem in urban environment is modeled by formulating the SUAVs kinematic and target models, the urban environment constraints, solar power harvesting and consumption models for SUAV, and sight occlusions by constructions. Especially, the sight occlusions in urban environment for SUAV are taken into consideration for the first time in this paper. A judgment method of sight occlusions for SUAV is proposed to make the calculation of the energy index more precise. Second, based on the precise modeling, the DMPC method is adopted as the framework for trajectory optimization in real time. Third, AGOA, a novel intelligent algorithm to mimic the behaviors of grasshoppers, is proposed to be the DMPC solver. The proposed AGOA has a better searching ability than the traditional GOA and some other intelligent algorithms by introducing some improvement measures e.g. the natural selection strategy, the democratic decision-making mechanism, and the dynamic feedback mechanism based on the 1/5 Principle. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by the simulations.

Repeated Strike Process During Disconnector Operation in Ultra-High Voltage Gas-Insulated Switchgear

Very fast transient over-voltage （VFTO）, induced by disconnector operations in gas- insulated switchgears, has become the limiting dielectric stress at ultra-high voltage levels. Much work has been done to investigate single-strike waveforms of VFTO. However, little study has been carried out investigating the repeated strike process, which would influence VFTO significantly. In this paper, we carried out 450 effective experiments in an ultra-high voltage test circuit, and conducted calculations through the Monte Carlo simulation method, to investigate the repeated strike process. Firstly, the mechanism of the repeated strike process is proposed, based on the ex- perimentai results. Afterwards, statistical breakdown characteristics of disconnectors are obtained and analyzed. Finally, simulations of the repeated strike process are conducted, which indicate that the dielectric strength recovery speed and polarity effect factor have a joint effect on VFTO. This study enhances the understanding of the nature of VFTO, and may help to optimize the disconnector designed to minimize VFTO.

Based on the battery charging and discharging regulator (BCDR) in spacecraft power conditioning unit application, a bidirectional DC-DC converter BCDR with high direction-changing frequency is proposed in this paper, including the Weinberg-buck bidirectional DC-DC topology and the corresponding bidirectional control. Additionally, the test on the BCDR prototype shows that BCDR parallel modules could achieve the quick switching between charging and discharging with the direction-changing frequency meeting the requirement of 1 kHz, the regulated power bus of small voltage ripple, and high charging and discharging efficiency, in agreement with the expected design.

This paper studies the problem of global stabilization of multiple integrator systems using event-triggered bounded controls. The linear system is described by a chain of integrators of arbitrary length n. A switching event-triggered bounded control law is constructed. This control law switches among a sequence of n event-triggered control laws. A switching strategy is designed for the selection of an individual event-triggered control law and an event-triggering strategy is designed for updating the control value of each of these control laws. This switching event-triggered control law is shown to achieve global asymptotic stabilization. The absence of the Zeno behavior is also established. Simulation results are given to illustrate the theoretical results.

This paper presents the system works, solution of the limited hydraulic source with the velocity inner loop, and the system optimal design method of reduction ratio. Through modeling and simplifying the system, the static and dynamic characteristics are analyzed, and the selecting requirements of affecting its parameters are proposed. A method is raised to reduce the peak pressure of the hydraulic drive unit (PDU) inlet and outlet pipes and its internal motor. © 2016 IEEE.

This paper combines the regional pole placement technique with the geometric control theory to design the feedback control for the nonlinear wind turbine generator system (WTGS), which can improve the dynamic response efficiently. Through constructing the appropriate diffeomorphism and feedback linearization, the key variables of the original nonlinear WTGS can be remained in the transformed linear-form system, which sustains that the dynamic response could be adjusted in the transformed linear framework. Due to the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) and high-order characteristics, the regional pole placement technique is then applied on the feedback linearized WTGS, which can guarantee the limitation of several performances related to the dynamic response. In such a way, the dynamic response of WTGS can be adjusted through the feedback linearization and regional pole placement techniques. Simulation results show the effectiveness of our results.
