Paper deals with application of online rotor broken bar fault detection via artificial neural networks. Fault can be detected by monitoring abnormalities of the spectrum amplitudes at certain frequencies in the motor current spectrum. These discriminative features are used for training of feed-forward backpropagation artificial neural network. Trained network is capable to successfully classify induction motor rotor condition. Results are presented in tables and figures.

Transient stability of a MicroGrid in which the micro sources using the peer-to-peer and master-slave control was investigated. The P-f and Q-V droop control was used for micro sources 1 and 2. And the PQ control was used for micro source 3. The impacts of motor load on the transient stability of the MicroGrid were shown when the motor load starts, load power changes and a three-phase faults happens. And the power sharing between each micro sources and the main frequency supporting are achieved. Simulation results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

Aim at the hysteretic nonlinearity characteristic of the giant magnetostrictive actuator in control, an internal model control method based on support vector regression is presented in this paper. Its models are built by support vector regression using the input and output data of the actuator and the internal model control is achieved. The simulation results show the method in this paper has better control precision.

This work proposes a way to make a group of mobile robots which are navigating as a formation to avoid obstacles in their paths. A trajectory tracking controller is proposed to guide the robots during the navigation, to which an obstacle deviation subsystem is added. Such subsystem is implemented in each robot in the formation, whereas the proposed controller is applicable to subsets of three robots. The obstacle deviation is based on virtual forces, which are considered to change the velocities of the individual robots. A proof of the stability of the control system implemented with the proposed controller, including control signal saturation to avoid the saturation of the actuators, is presented, based on the theory of Lyapunov. Simulated and experimental results are also presented, which validate the proposal.

Flow-rate Characteristics Measurement of Regulators Based on the Pressure Response in an Isothermal Tank

Regulators are important components in pneumatic system, and their flow-rate characteristics are the key parameters for designers. According to the correlatively international standard and national standard of China, which describe the flow-rate characteristics measurement method of pneumatic regulators, the pressure and the flow are measured point by point, and then the flow-rate characteristics curve is plotted point to point. This method has some disadvantages, such as equipment complexity, much air consumption, and low efficiency. To settle the problems presented above, this paper puts forward a new high efficient and energy saving flow-rate characteristics measurement method of regulators, which is based on the pressure response when charging and discharging to an isothermal tank without any flow meters. The measurement principle, the system and the steps are introduced. And the tracking differentiator is used for the data processing of the pressure difference. Two typical kinds of regulators were experimentally investigated, and their flow-rate characteristics curves were obtained with the new and the conventional method, respectively. Comparatively, it＇s proved that this new method is feasible because it is not only able to meet the demand of the measurement precision, but also to save energy and improve efficiency. Compared to the conventional method, the new method takes only about 1/10 amount of time and consumes about only 1/30 amount of air. Hopefully it will be able to serve as an international standard of flow-rate characteristics measurement method of regulators.

This paper presents a new practical backup power supply connection scheme for Distribution Line Non-Communication Protection (DNCP). Simulation tests have been conducted using the Alternate Transient program (ATP) with respect to a typical single circuit breaker multi-section system. The results prove that the new scheme is able to not only recover the power supply of loads on healthy lines automatically, but also create disturbances in favor of Accelerated Over Current (AOC) criterion. Aiming at the failure of Directional Under Voltage (DUV) criterion derived from high voltage and large capacity induction motor load, a novel criterion using the increment of reactive power is proposed. © 2009 IEEE.

Application of Non-thermal plasma for gas cleaning is gaining prominence in recent years, which can effectively remove NOx and other exhaust gases simultaneously. As the present researches are mostly adopting simulation gas for the investigation, this paper employed the NOx from the actual diesel exhaust as the investigated subject. Effects of the amplitude and frequency of voltage, the diameter of high-voltage electrode, the reactor volume and the discharge gap on NOx removal were studied based on dielectric barrier discharge. Obtained results indicate that, the removal rate of NOx increased first and then decreased with increasing the magnitude and frequency of the voltage. With decreasing discharge gap, the removal rate of NOx increased. With increasing the volume of reactor and the diameter of high-voltage electrode, the removal rate of NOx increased.

XLPE cables are widely used in urban distribution systems because of their excellent mechanical, heat and electrical properties. However, water tree, formed due to the existence of water and intense electric field, is one of the primary causes of aging breakdown. There used to be several methods, such as insulation impedance method and DC leakage current method for the detection of bridged water tree, which are non-effective for the diagnosis of non-bridged one. Residual Charge Method is known for its effectiveness in the diagnosis of non-bridged one. In this paper, pulse voltage is applied to the DC voltage charged XLPE cable after grounding. It is called 'Pulsed-type Residual Charge Method' which is found to be more effective for the diagnosis of non-bridged water tree. The effects of DC voltage, grounding time and pulse voltage on the amount of residual charge are studied. Also, the releasing mechanism of residual charge by pulse is discussed. Accumulated results show that the improved method has a high resolution for the diagnosis of water tree degradation degree.

Quantitative analysis and detection of abnormalities for electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings during evoked activities are essential for clinical diagnosis on neurological disorders. However, the process of interpreting EEG is time consuming and requires experienced electroencephalographers (EEGers). In this study, a method of automatic EEG interpretation during hyperventilation was proposed. The purpose is to provide a quantitative interpretation of EEG which is able to conform to EEGers' visual inspection. The final integrated results of automatic interpretation were compared with EEGers' evaluation, and showed high consistence. © 2009 SICE.
