In this article, a method to obtain spatial coordinate of spherical robot's moving platform using a single camera is proposed, and experimentally verified. The proposed method is an accurate, flexible and low-cost tool for the kinematic calibration of spherical-workspace mechanisms to achieve the desired accuracy in position. The sensitivity and efficiency of the provided method is thus evaluated. Furthermore, optimization of camera location is outlined subject to the prescribed cost functions. Finally, experimental analysis of the proposed calibration method on ARAS Eye surgery Robot (DIAMOND) is presented;In which the accuracy is obtained from three to six times better than the previous calibration.

We present a novel algorithm for reducing the state dimension, i.e., order, of linear parameter varying (LPV) discrete-time state-space (SS) models with affine dependence on the scheduling variable. The input-output behavior of the reduced order model approximates that of the original model. In fact, for input and scheduling sequences of a certain length, the input-output behaviors of the reduced and original model coincide. The proposed method can also be interpreted as a reachability and observability reduction (minimization) procedure for LPV-SS representations with affine dependence.

It is well known that vertical take-off and landing(VTOL) aircraft system is a complex multi-variable nonlinear system with large disturbances. In order to control the VTOL aircraft system ef ciently, it is necessary to explore new optimal control methods to stabilize the system states. In this paper, we apply dual heuristic programming(DHP) to design the optimal controller for VTOL aircraft system. As a framework of approximate dynamic programming(ADP) algorithm, DHP consists of three modules: model, critic and actor. The critic module output partial derivatives of cost function with respect to state. It has many advantages such as good dynamics, fast convergence rate, and high control resolution. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of optimal controller for VTOL aircraft system based on the DHP algorithm.

A selective moving window partial least squares(SMW-PLS) soft sensor was proposed in this paper and applied to a hydro-isomerization process for on-line estimation of para-xylene(PX) content. Aiming at the high frequency of model updating in previous recursive PLS methods, a selective updating strategy was developed. The model adaptation is activated once the prediction error is larger than a preset threshold, or the model is kept *** a result, the frequency of model updating is reduced greatly, while the change of prediction accuracy is *** performance of the proposed model is better as compared with that of other PLS-based model. The compromise between prediction accuracy and real-time performance can be obtained by regulating the threshold. The guidelines to determine the model parameters are illustrated. To avoid structural damage, a wind turbine is equipped with a safety supervisor that triggers an emergency shutdown procedure in case of internal faults or large wind gusts. This paper leverages the (compositional) barrier certificate framework for the design and optimization of such a supervisor. The problem is formulated as a sum of squares problem and is solved using semi-definite programming. Both a direct and compositional approach are successfully implemented and verified for the NREL 5MW reference turbine. In conclusion, the methods derived in this paper are indeed viable for the syntheses and optimization of safety systems for future wind turbines.
