An iterative learning control (ILC) algorithm has been proposed for the shaping of the output probability density function (PDF) of non-Gaussian stochastic systems. Based on the B-spline modeling of the output PDF, the control strategy is implemented in three steps at each iterative batch. Firstly, the distance between the output PDF of the system and the desired PDF is used between each batch to adjust the B-spline functions. The parameters of the B-spline based PDF model are then identified accordingly. Finally, the control input is designed by optimising a quadratic integral performance function within each batch

The article reports on the importance of correct medical diagnosis to ensure an effective monitoring and prophylactic medical attendance. The method for developing a functional diagnosis is described. The use of an integrated intelligence system is specified for the analysis of functional diagnosis in the field of medicine. It involves a background expert system having some specialized information basis and *** evaluation of the respiratory function was performed and information gathered using the intelligent system.

A fault-tolerant control method is proposed for a class of dynamic systems including two subsystems. These two subsystems work together in order to perform a joint task. The proposed fault tolerant control aims at obtaining a control strategy that can use the healthy sub-system to compensate the faulty one. When one subsystem is subjected to faults, the other subsystem is used to accommodate faults and compensate the influences onto the total system, leading to a fault tolerant control of the whole system. Theoretical analysis and computer simulations have illustrated the validity of this method

In this paper an alternative approach to non-linear predictive control is presented. It is based on iterative linearisation of the model response so that the same closed loop responses as in the pure non-linear approach are obtained but with reduced computation times and more efficient optimisation tools. The method is applied to a high purity distillation column and some results are presented showing the behaviour of the proposed algorithm.

A systematic methodology for generating multi-folded torus chaotic attractors from a simple three-dimensional piecewise-linear system is presented in this paper. Theoretical analysis shows that multi-folded torus chaotic attractors can be created via alternative switching between two piecewise-linear systems. A novel circuit diagram is designed for physically creating multi-folded torus chaotic attractors. This is the first time in the literature to experimentally verify a maximum 9-folded torus chaotic attractor that is generated by an analog circuit.

This paper discusses a design flow for multithread object-oriented real-time applications, running on top of an embedded, platform-based, customizable Java processor, which is prototyped using affordable FPGAs. The proposed approach enforces design space exploration activities, taking into account aspects like temporal behavior, memory footprint, and power/energy consumption. A case study containing a task scheduler implementation as both software and hardware modules is presented. While both implementations are compatible with the developed program from an interface point of view, they lead to different timing and footprint requirements. Their evaluation in terms of memory occupation and number of FPGA logic cells is presented.

The use of network-based control has become widespread in building automation systems. BACnet(building automation and control networks) adopts master-slave/ token-passing(MS/TP) protocol as one of its local area networks. This study introduces a bandwidth allocation scheme in the MS/IP protocol. The bandwidth allocation scheme improves the capability of real-time communication of the original MSA IT protocol. The bandwidth allocation scheme introduced in this paper can he easily implemented in the existing MS/TP protocol with a slight modification. In this study, we examined the validity of bandwidth allocation scheme using simulation models. The results from the simulation experiment show that the proposed scheme satisfies the requirements of real-time communication.

The growing complexity of today's embedded real-time systems demands new methods and tools in order to manage the problems of design, analysis, integration and validation of complex systems. This paper describes an object-oriented platform-based design process for real-time embedded systems. The proposed approach promotes a smooth transition from high-level UML specification to implementation, which is composed by hardware and software components. The transition from higher to lower abstraction levels is facilitated by the use of an OO realtime API, whose underlying facilities can be optimized according to the application needs and selected platform. An integrated toolset is used to support the intermediate steps of the design process. In order to illustrate the proposed approach and related toolset the design of an embedded real-time automation system for an "intelligent" wheelchair is presented.

This paper proposes improved H-2 and H-infinity conditions for continuous-time linear systems with polytopic uncertainties based on a recent result for the discrete-time case. Basically, the performance conditions are built on an augmented-space with additional multipliers resulting in a decoupling between the Lyapunov and system matrices. This nice property is used to develop new conditions for the robust stability, performance analysis, and control synthesis of linear systems using parameter dependent Lyapunov functions in a numerical tractable way.

This paper develops an adaptive robust control design strategy for automatic steering of ships with unknown parameters under unknown environmental disturbances induced by wave, wind, and ocean current. Based on the incorporation of the Nussbaum-type function into backstepping design and some technical lemmas, the proposed design method does not require a priori knowledge of the sign of the unknown coefficient. It is proved that the designed adaptive robust controller can guarantee the uniform ultimate boundedness of the resulting closed-loop system signals. The control performance can be guaranteed by an appropriate choice of the design parameters. Simulation results on a 45 meters long ship are presented to validate the proposed controller.
