The design of an adaptive control scheme (CS) for the control of a sphere in a magnetic levitation system laboratory equipment is presented in this paper. The linearized mathematical model of the process is stabilized by a state feedback controller. The zero steady-state control error is ensured by designing a proportional-integral-derivative controller. A fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative gainscheduling controller is designed to ensure the switching between the linear proportional-integral-derivative controllers. Some simulation results are presented to validate the proposed control structures.

Consider a linear network composed of 2-terminal devices. Its interconnection structure is described by a graph G. The voltages or the currents of a subset of devices can independently be prescribed if and only if the subset of the corresponding edges in the graph G is circuit-free or cut set free, respectively. This classical result of Kirchhoff can be generalized for networks containing multiterminal devices as well: The independence structure can be described by the circuits and cut sets of a more general abstract mathematical structure, a matroid M. However, these matroids will not always be graphic. Using some recent mathematical results for characterizing graphic structures among the matroids, here we give a physical characterization of subclasses of those active networks where M happens to be graphic.

Figure detection, separation and image classification are common problems occurring in various fields, especially medicine. Since image databases are usually large, manual classification would be a demanding task. In this paper, we proposed a method for automatic compound figure detection and separation, and gave a comparison between other recognition methods, such as convolutional neural networks. The proposed method is based on differentiating objects in the image, and merging object artifacts with the nearest large object. Parameters of size and distance were varied, and different criteria for determining the object boundaries were tested. Using this method, an accuracy of 90.20% was achieved on a test set of 500 images, with an average processing time less than 600ms per image for the given combination of parameters. © 2016 IEEE.

This paper presents a convolutional neural network clustering approach for handwritten digits recognition. Neural networks were trained individually, using the same training set and combined into clusters, depending on the training method used. These clusters formed a layered architecture, where each layer attempted to recognize the given digit, when the previous layers were not able to do so with sufficient certainty. We examine various ways of combining such clusters and training their constituent networks. © 2016 IEEE.

Dynamic Thermal Line Rating (DTLR) provides actual current-carrying capacity of transmission lines by considering weather conditions perceived to be influential on line thermal capacity. These weather variables include ambient temperature, wind speed, and wind direction. In this paper, a probability technique is adopted to effectively model the existing uncertainties in weather variables. A probability distribution is assigned to each variable to account for the inherent uncertainties in weather data. Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) technique is then employed to generate different scenarios for relevant weather data. Output of MCS is fed to the IEEE model to obtain the probability distribution of sectional line ampacity estimated at each line span. Next, probability distribution of line ampacity will be calculated as the minimum of the ampacities estimated at each line span. Expected value and related percentiles of line ampacity can be derived from its probability distribution. The proposed approach would enable system operators to make decisions on DTLR accounting for risk and degree of uncertainty that power utilities are willing to accept. © 2016 IEEE.

This research aimed to modeling a geographic information system (GIS) using graph clustering. GIS discuss about spatial data that consists of several objects including points, lines, regions, rectangles, surfaces, volumes, and the all data representation of an object on earth. Graph-based clustering techniques are extremely useful because many real word problem domains have a natural graph representation. This research focused on case GIS for family empowerment post (POSDAYA) which is one of the programs for improving the quality of human beings, especially in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Indonesia that has a priority on family-based poverty reduction. The results are the GIS framework model that use three components such as graph clustering, layering, and the view of data properties. GIS provided the spatial data and its properties, and graph clustering as a method or algorithm used to make the layers properties and related to each points based on similarities.

There are several ways to deal with security issues of confidential data sent via the internet, including using cryptographic techniques and steganography. Steganography is the science and art of concealing information / messages in a media in such a way that its existence is not detected by other parties who are not entitled to the information. Instead, cryptography disguises the meaning of a message, but does not hide that there is a message because the file looks suspicious. The Steganography technique used here was End Of File (EOF). The EOF technique described how to add data or files at the end of the image file. For this technique, the size of data or files that will be hidden could be larger than the size of the image file. The hidden data will be inserted at the end of the file so that it will not affect the image. This steganography application is also equipped with a cryptographic function Data Encryption Standard (DES) at the time of insertion of data that functions as a generator code and encrypts data, so that the security of a data in the file is more protected and protected from those who are not entitled to know the data.

The parameters identification of a complex OSC nonlinear circuits is very crucial to enhance the performance predictions in terms of output I-V curves of conventional and new generation OSC. It is very difficult the selection of a neural network based algorithm as MLP for a complex OSC circuital modeling then the relative parameters extraction. Thus we propose in the paper accurate nonlinear equations solution with one final single NN error driven based implementation for the concerning OSC modeling problems. The novelty of the proposed approach lies in coupling error driven neural networks based procedure in circuital modeling by an overall implementation and programming with the final procedure for parameters extraction and mainly the optimization. This was done via the solution of a transcendental equations set The approach reveals very appropriate OSC circuital parameters extraction so as optimization The procedure has been outlined and illustrated through effective implementation then simulation results are enclosed. The polymer solar cells investigated in the paper was an OSC characterized in the laboratory of organic semiconductor devices named The Michel Mamon Microelectronics Laboratory at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer Sheva. © 2016 IEEE.

Minimization of energy consumption of environmental monitoring systems is important to ensure their extended operational lifetime and low maintenance costs. One possible way to conserve energy is the use of low-frequency analog-to-digital conversion devices and associated data sampling techniques. In this paper, a new approach to lowering sampling frequency using model-based data imputation is proposed and discussed. Recorded data is used to develop models based on time-delay recurrent neural network. While sampling at low frequencies, the models are used to predict future and missing values. The models are updated when predicted values differ significantly from the actual measurements. The proposed approach is demonstrated using actual measurements sampled at different frequencies. The results are thoroughly analyzed from the perspective of approximation error and energy savings. © 2016 IEEE.
