As virtualization technologies enable real-time CPU allocation, it is important to build controllers that adjust the allocation in a timely fashion avoiding resource saturation and hence, dissatisfaction of the end users of services. In this work, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference, trained on Kalman and H ∞ filters, has been used to adjust the CPU allocations based on observations of past utilization. When evaluating the performance of the proposed controller it is demonstrated that it provides even better performance than the filters it is trained on. In addition, there are no assumptions on the noise characteristics and due to the fact that the neuro-fuzzy controller can, in general, capture non-linear level processes, our controller is more robust than linear model based approaches, such as the Kalman and the H ∞ filters.

Due to the differences in terms of antenna height, scatterer density, and relative speed, V2I links exhibit different propagation characteristics compared to V2V links. We develop a geometry-based path loss and shadow fading model for V2I links. We separately model the following types of V2I links: line-of-sight, non-line-of-sight due to vehicles, non-line-of-sight due to foliage, and non-line-of-sight due to buildings. We validate the proposed model using V2I field measurements. We implement the model in the GEMV2 simulator, and make the source code publicly available.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is group of diseases of the heart and blood vessels and a major global cause of death, with more people dying every year from CVDs than from any other cause. Therefore, controlling and preventing CVDs and their complex pathogenesis (i.e., influenced by genetic and lifestyle factors) has gained considerable attention. In this study, we use the LSA algorithm to cluster highly related CVD association genes. The LSA can further explore each functional gene cluster including listing of the consensus terms shared by the genes in the cluster. A comprehensive network biology analysis can integrates clustered genes in the CVD genes with pathway information by building a network of interconnected pathways. Based on LSA, the CVD association genes from the GAD database are divided into 5 clusters (k=5). The gene set enrichment analysis reveals 25 significantly pathways. Further analysis to integrate pathway analysis and to combine miRNA and Drugbank data to gain more insights in the interplay can be useful to suggest drug repositioning.

Computational methods, utilizing representations of the approximate solution of a boundary value problem as a finite superposition of fields of fictitious sources located outside the problem's domain, are widely used in the numerical modeling of wave scattering and radiation problems. In this work, we investigate certain convergence issues related to the field solutions derived by the application of fictitious sources methods to three-dimensional (3-D) scattering problems. The main result concerns the divergence and oscillations of the source strengths and the simultaneous convergence of the field generated by these divergent strengths. The origin of the oscillations is discussed and it is shown that they are not due to round-off errors or matrix ill-conditioning.

The construction and understanding of Gene Regulatory Networks (GRNs) are among the hardest tasks faced by systems biology. To infer gene regulatory networks from gene expression data has been a vigorous research area. It aims to constitute an intermediate step from exploratory to gene expression analysis. In recent years, many reverse engineering methods have been proposed. In practice, different model approaches will generate different network structures. Therefore, it is very important for users to assess the performance of these algorithms. We present a comparative study with three different reverse engineering methods, including the S-system Parameter Estimation Method (SPEM), the Graphical Gaussian Model (GGM) and the TimeDelay-ARACNE. Our approach consists of the analysis of real gene expression data with the different methods, and the assessment of algorithmic performances by sensitivity, specificity, precision and F-score.

A new geometry of log-periodic dipole array (LPDA) is presented in this work. Unlike the traditional LPDA geometry, where all dipoles are considered to be inside the same angular sector, the proposed LPDA adopts an exponential geometry, described by two parameters called exponential scale factor and exponential relative spacing. By properly adjusting these two parameters, the exponential LPDA (ELPDA) geometry obtains wideband behavior with excellent radiation characteristics. A near optimal ELPDA geometry that achieves the desired radiation characteristics inside the required bandwidth is found in the present work by applying a recently developed method called invasive weed optimization (IWO). In particular, the ELPDA is required to operate in the 800-3300MHz frequency range under specific constraints concerning standing wave ratio, forward gain, gain flatness, front-to-back ratio and side lobe level. A comparison with a traditional LPDA of the same total antenna length exhibits the superiority of the proposed geometry.

This The new technology for sensors and wireless sensor networks has led to various fields of application. Environmental parameters monitoring, safety of persons and property, traffic control or some analyses into buildings to determine the cause of various problems, are some examples that highlights the ability of wireless sensors network to be deployed on a very short term basis. Wireless sensors can be placed on critical location or in critical pieces of building structure to detect, identify and diagnose faults. The local network sensor is generally an electronic embedded system, which is capable to process data received from a various type of sensors like: thermal, seismic, infrared, ultrasonic or magnetic. An advanced type of network sensor will not only store or send the acquired data, it will manage also the links to neighboring nodes, finding the best routes for data packets. Location for sensors can be obtained from a GPS or using a local positioning algorithm. All of this information's are vital to manage efficiently an emergency situation.

In the present paper, the desired Data/Info that the operational officers need is examined, both during the design phase and during the execution of operational missions. This information has been developed and organized by several military and civilian authorities and organizations at national and international level, but there are severe problems in acquiring external collections of Data/Info. In addition, the observatories of information and repositories of data have collapsed by their large volume. The most significant note is the fact that the desired Data/Info is directly or indirectly georeferenced, very high volume, complex, diversified, with internal correlations and therefore requires special handling. Operational officers' duty is supported by useful and powerful tools such as Geographical Information Systems, which resolve complex geographical problems in order to take accurate and timely decisions. Nowadays, organizing of Support Systems for designing, monitoring and controlling of operational procedures follow ad hoc heuristic methodologies and forms of internal architectures, which are not able to handle large volume of data core (information), to achieve upgrading, thematic augmentation or shift and do not present the required desirable inner interoperability. The complexity of these Systems does not, also, permit the increasing or modification of the range of the data core (information) functions. There are many technical difficulties in organizing large sets of Data/Info in a single (even composite) Information System. It is imperative, by a systematic and orthological way to construct suitable organized georeferenced data cores (and programs) in order to support the operational procedures for a significant number of different missions. It is possible a general, common and adaptable core program to be constructed based on the aforementioned core data.

In cancer radiation therapy, the treatment effectiveness is degraded greatly by the tumor respiratory motion during treatment delivery, induced by patient free breathing and organ motions. Advance treatment delivery techniques with image guidance helps to address the tumor motion challenges. However, real-time tumor localization is still a big concern as the respiratory motion dynamically changes its motion velocities, directions, and amplitude during treatment delivery. In this project, an optimized internal marker 3D localization method was proposed by combining the use of onboard kiovoltage (kV) beam and megavoltage (MV) imaging systems. Two sets of 2D projection images from any pair of kV-kV, kV-MV or MV-MV with different gantry rotation angles will be utilized to derive the 3D tumor positions. This approach transforms the projection 2D images to the original 3D location without requirements of the two imaging systems to be orthogonal. The accuracy of the proposed method was validated by several evaluation metrics. The average 3D Euclidean difference is between 0.21 mm to 0.56 mm, which is within the range of clinical applications. Further study will be carried out to evaluate the system comprehensively and integrate to the existing treatment delivery system for better communications among different systems. It potentially will improve the treatment accuracy and provide better health care to cancer patients. Copyright ISCA.

At the Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe determining accident-prone areas on roads in Lhokseumawe still using manual systems. Determination of accident-prone areas are less effective because the police Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe just using the data of the last year and had to repeatedly calculate manually accident-prone areas based on the number of human casualties. In this study the system implementation CUSUM method (Cummulative Summary) to determine the accident-prone areas designed using the web-based programming language PHP. In this system there are three processes to determine areas prone to accidents, the accident rate calculations based on the weighted severity, blacksite calculations using the Z-Score method for determining areas prone to accident blackspots and calculations using the CUSUM method to determine the critical points of an accident. The data used are secondary data obtained from the Police Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe years 2009-2013.
