Supercapacitors are electrical components which have a higher capacity of storing energy compared to a normal capacitor. It also has a quick charging and discharging time in comparison to other sources of electrical energy. Due to this advantage, supercapacitors are often used as an additional energy source in an electric car. During regenerative braking, the supercapacitor can be charged and hence store electrical energy more quickly. In this paper, a simple supercapacitor charging scheme was designed during the regenerative braking in an electric car. The designed charging scheme of supercapacitor is then implemented and tested in electric car simulator. The simulator was firstly built based on a previously published simulator known as Protodrive. The main components of the simulator are two direct current motors (DCMs) with a linked axis of rotation. The scheme is then tested in the simulator by using three profiles of a designed road, i.e. one hill, two hills and trapezoidal road's contour. The test result shows that the amount of supercapacitor charging current is proportional to the amount of road profile's slope angle. © 2015 IEEE.

This paper proposes a set of evolving Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy models of the nonlinear dynamic mechanisms occurring in the myoelectric-based control of prosthetic hand fingers. The rule bases and the parameters of the TSK fuzzy models are evolved by an online identification algorithm. The experimental results prove the performance of the TSK fuzzy models by good output responses and root mean square error values. A performance comparison with two recurrent neural network architectures is included.

We introduce a bimodal epistemic logic intended to capture knowledge as truth in all epistemically alternative states and belief as a generalised ‘majority’ quantifier, interpreted as truth in most (i.e. a ‘majority’) of the epistemically alternative states. This doxastic interpretation is of interest in knowledge-representation applications and it also holds an independent philosophical and technical appeal. The logic (Formula presented.) comprises an (Formula presented.) epistemic modal operator, a doxastic modal operator of consistent and complete belief and ‘bridge’ axioms which relate knowledge to belief. To capture the notion of a ‘majority’ we use the ‘large sets’ introduced independently by K. Schlechta and V. Jauregui, augmented with a requirement of completeness, which furnishes a ‘weak ultrafilter’ concept. We provide semantics in the form of possible-worlds frames, properly blending relational semantics with a version of general Scott–Montague (neighbourhood) frames and we obtain soundness and completeness results. We examine the validity of certain epistemic principles discussed in the literature, in particular some of the ‘bridge’ axioms discussed by W. Lenzen and R. Stalnaker, as well as the ‘paradox of the perfect believer’, which is not a theorem of (Formula presented.). © 2016 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Recent studies have investigated the possible role of dynamic functional connectivity and the role of cross-frequency coupling (CFC) to provide the substrate for reliable biomarkers of brain disorders. In this study, we analyzed time-varying CFC profiles from resting state Magnetoencephal-ographic recordings of 30 mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) patients and 50 normal controls. Interactions among sensors at specific pairs of frequency bands were computed via estimation of phase-to-amplitude couplings. We then computed time-varying functional connectivity graphs that were described in terms of segregation (local efficiency, LE) and integration (global efficiency, GE) and mapped those graphs to time series of GE/LE estimates. The resulting dynamic network revealed transitions between a limited number of microstates for mTBI subjects compared to controls. The significant differences in transition probability between the two groups, along with the limited repertoire of possible states, can form the basis for a robust dynamic connectomic biomarker for the diagnosis of mTBI.

We describe a mobile digital checklist that we designed and developed for trauma resuscitation-a dynamic, fast-paced medical process of treating severely injured patients. The checklist design was informed by our analysis of user interactions with a paper checklist that was introduced to improve team performance during resuscitations. The design process followed an iterative approach and involved several medical experts. We discuss design challenges in converting a paper checklist to its digital counterpart, as well as our approaches for addressing those challenges. While we show that using a digital checklist during a fast-paced medical event is feasible, we also recognize several design constraints, including limited display size, difficulties in entering notes about the medical process and patient, and difficulties in replicating user experience with paper checklists. © 2016 EAI.

We consider the dynamic EEG source localization problem with additional constraints on the expected value of the state. In dynamic EEG source localization, the brain sources, also called dipoles, are not stationary but vary over time. Moreover, given our specific EEG experiment, we expect the dipoles to be located within a certain area of the brain (here, the visual cortex). We formulate this constrained dynamic source localization problem as a constrained non-linear state-estimation problem. Particle filters (PFs) are nowadays the state-of-theart in optimal non-linear and non-Gaussian state estimation. However, PFs cannot handle additional constraints on the state that cannot be incorporated within the system model. In this case, the additional constraint is on the mean of the state, which means that realizations of the state, also called particles within the PF framework, may or may not satisfy the constraint. However, the state must satisfy the constraint on average. This is indeed the case when tracking brain dipoles from EEG experiments that try to target a specific cortex of the brain. Such constraints on the mean of the state are hard to deal with because they reflect global constraints on the posterior density of the state. The popular solution of constraining every particle in the PF may lead either to a stronger condition or to a different (unrelated) condition;both of which result in incorrect estimation of the state. We propose the Iterative Mean Density Truncation (IMeDeT) algorithm, which inductively samples particles that are guaranteed to satisfy the constraint on the mean. Application of IMeDeT on synthetic and real EEG data shows that incorporating a priori constraints on the state improves the tracking accuracy as well as the convergence rate of the tracker.

Main goal of this paper is a system created for the purpose of disaggregation appliances from the energy profile in the households and the evaluation of unusual activities carried out in a smart home appliances with the help of self-organizing maps (SOM), or individual model views for educational purpose. The paper focuses on the analysis of existing methods and techniques of the problem. The core of the paper is the study of the various methods of disaggregation and describes the uses of the disaggregation of existing systems. After the deep investigation of issue, the next step is to select two different methods of disaggregation, which will be implemented to achieve the objectives of the paper. Second part of this paper is evaluation of activities can be achieved by calculation which is dependent on the models views, or by SOM, which is learned from standard activities. Evaluated by this unusual activity appliance. The system is controlled through a simple graphical user interface. This paper was created as learning model for using describe method to programing in various language. © 2015 IEEE.

We propose cyclic prefix single carrier full-duplex transmission in amplify-and-forward cooperative spectrum sharing networks to achieve multipath diversity and full-duplex spectral efficiency. Integrating full-duplex transmission into cooperative spectrum sharing systems results in two intrinsic problems: 1) the residual loop interference occurs between the transmit and the receive antennas at the secondary relays and 2) the primary users simultaneously suffer interference from the secondary source (SS) and the secondary relays (SRs). Thus, examining the effects of residual loop interference under peak interference power constraint at the primary users and maximum transmit power constraints at the SS and the SRs is a particularly challenging problem in frequency selective fading channels. To do so, we derive and quantitatively compare the lower bounds on the outage probability and the corresponding asymptotic outage probability for max-min relay selection, partial relay selection, and maximum interference relay selection policies in frequency selective fading channels. To facilitate comparison, we provide the corresponding analysis for half-duplex. Our results show two complementary regions, named as the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) dominant region and the residual loop interference dominant region, where the multipath diversity and spatial diversity can be achievable only in the SNR dominant region, however the diversity gain collapses to zero in the residual loop interference dominant region.

LUC Algorithm in Visual Cryptography

Nowadays, messaging technology in digital data form more often used and not less messages that confidentially wanted. Then it should be modified so that can be understood only by the sender and the intended recipients. All of this system can be realization by using cryptography. LUC algorithms are introduced by Smith and Lennon in 1993. LUC algorithm is an algorithm that based on the use of Lucas sequence (specific arithmetic operations derived from Lucas row) that rarely used to enhance the security of the messages. In this research, LUC algorithm is combined with visual cryptography to process the encryption and the description of a colored image. Four different images were used in the trial here. The performance of the system is assessed using Structural similarity (SSIM) which has an assessment similar to human eye. If the image quality is the same as the original image, then the SSIM value is one. Whereas if the quality of decryption image is very different from the original image then the value of SSIM is zero.
