Full-Duplex Spectrum Sharing in Cooperative Single Carrier Systems

We propose cyclic prefix single carrier full-duplex transmission in amplify-and-forward cooperative spectrum sharing networks to achieve multipath diversity and full-duplex spectral efficiency. Integrating full-duplex transmission into cooperative spectrum sharing systems results in two intrinsic problems: 1) the residual loop interference occurs between the transmit and the receive antennas at the secondary relays and 2) the primary users simultaneously suffer interference from the secondary source (SS) and the secondary relays (SRs). Thus, examining the effects of residual loop interference under peak interference power constraint at the primary users and maximum transmit power constraints at the SS and the SRs is a particularly challenging problem in frequency selective fading channels. To do so, we derive and quantitatively compare the lower bounds on the outage probability and the corresponding asymptotic outage probability for max-min relay selection, partial relay selection, and maximum interference relay selection policies in frequency selective fading channels. To facilitate comparison, we provide the corresponding analysis for half-duplex. Our results show two complementary regions, named as the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) dominant region and the residual loop interference dominant region, where the multipath diversity and spatial diversity can be achievable only in the SNR dominant region, however the diversity gain collapses to zero in the residual loop interference dominant region.

Nowadays, messaging technology in digital data form more often used and not less messages that confidentially wanted. Then it should be modified so that can be understood only by the sender and the intended recipients. All of this system can be realization by using cryptography. LUC algorithms are introduced by Smith and Lennon in 1993. LUC algorithm is an algorithm that based on the use of Lucas sequence (specific arithmetic operations derived from Lucas row) that rarely used to enhance the security of the messages. In this research, LUC algorithm is combined with visual cryptography to process the encryption and the description of a colored image. Four different images were used in the trial here. The performance of the system is assessed using Structural similarity (SSIM) which has an assessment similar to human eye. If the image quality is the same as the original image, then the SSIM value is one. Whereas if the quality of decryption image is very different from the original image then the value of SSIM is zero.

We report results of systematic analysis of various modes in the flatband lattice, based on the diamond-chain model with the on-site cubic nonlinearity, and its double version with the linear on-site mixing between the two lattice fields. In the single-chain system, a full analysis is presented, first, for the single nonlinear cell, making it possible to find all stationary states, viz., antisymmetric, symmetric, and asymmetric ones, including an exactly investigated symmetry-breaking bifurcation of the subcritical type. In the nonlinear infinite single-component chain, compact localized states (CLSs) are found in an exact form too, as an extension of known compact eigenstates of the linear diamond chain. Their stability is studied by means of analytical and numerical methods, revealing a nontrivial stability boundary. In addition to the CLSs, various species of extended states and exponentially localized lattice solitons of symmetric and asymmetric types are studied too, by means of numerical calculations and variational approximation. As a result, existence and stability areas are identified for these modes. Finally, the linear version of the double diamond chain is solved in an exact form, producing two split flatbands in the system's spectrum. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Energy gives personal comfort to people, and is essential for the generation of commercial and societal wealth. Nevertheless, energy production and consumption place considerable pressures on the environment, such as the emission of greenhouse gases and air pollutants. They contribute to climate change, damage natural ecosystems and the man-made environment, and cause adverse effects to human health. Lately, novel market schemes emerge, such as the formation and operation of customer coalitions aiming to improve their market power through the pursuit of common benefits. In this paper we present CASSANDRA, an open source1, expandable software platform for modelling the demand side of power systems, focusing on small scale consumers. The structural elements of the platform are a) the electrical installations (i.e. households, commercial stores, small industries etc.), b) the respective appliances installed, and c) the electrical consumption-related activities of the people residing in the installations. CASSANDRA serves as a tool for simulation of real demand-side environments providing decision support for energy market stakeholders. The ultimate goal of the CASSANDRA simulation functionality is the identification of good practices that lead to energy efficiency, clustering electric energy consumers according to their consumption patterns, and the studying consumer change behaviour when presented with various demand response programs. In several scenarios, such as in training and education, it is frequently important to distribute large files to many clients, e.g., operating system boot images or raw data files. To carry out such distribution efficiently, we use wireless broadcast and Fountain Codes with low density random encoding to tolerate network packet losses. In particular, we use a hybrid coding technique that combines forward coding using weak LT Codes with a feedback phase at the end, which allows concluding the process faster with lower computing cost than traditional LT codes and without the precoding of Raptor Codes. The novelty of our approach consists of using a scheduler to orchestrate the clients' feedback. The scheduler is scalable in the number of clients and allows the server to know which clients are active and in which phase, and control the coding process adequately. We show early experimental results from simulation and from a practical testbed that confirm the effectiveness of our proposed approach. With a feedback phase triggered when just 2% symbols are missing, we reduced the codewords overhead by 2.5% with respect to traditional LT Codes. We also achieved a high reduction in computational overhead associated to weak LT Codes. Moreover, this approach gives the server full control over the transfer, avoiding producing codewords beyond those strictly needed. Using 802.11g in ad-hoc mode and exploiting TXOPs, we transferred a 100MB file in 21.77s with up to 10% losses. © VDE Verlag GMBH, Berlin, Offenbach, Germany.

Microgrids equipped with small-scale renewable-energy generation systems and energy storage units offer challenging opportunity from a control point of view. In fact, in order to improve resilience and enable islanded mode, microgrid energy management systems must dynamically manage controllable loads by considering not only matching energy generation and consumption, but also thermal comfort of the occupants. Thermal comfort, which is often neglected or oversimplified, plays a major role in dynamic demand response, especially in front of intermittent behavior of the renewable energy sources. This paper presents a novel control algorithm for joint demand response management and thermal comfort optimization in a microgrid composed of a block of buildings, a photovoltaic array, a wind turbine, and an energy storage unit. In order to address the large-scale nature of the problem, the proposed control strategy adopt a two-level supervisory strategy: at the lower level, each building employs a local controller that processes only local measurements;at the upper level, a centralized unit supervises and updates the three controllers with the aim of minimizing the aggregate energy cost and thermal discomfort of the microgrid. Comparisons with alternative strategies reveal that the proposed supervisory strategy efficiently manages the demand response so as to sensibly improve independence of the microgrid with respect to the main grid, and guarantees at the same time thermal comfort of the occupants.

Objective: The traditional fee-for-service approach to healthcare leads to the management of a patient's conditions in an independent manner, inducing various negative consequences. It is recognized that a bundled care approach to healthcare-one that manages a collection of health conditions together-may enable greater efficacy and cost savings. However, it is not always evident which sets of conditions should be managed in a bundled manner. Thus, we investigated how a data-driven approach could be applied to automatically learn potential bundles and evaluate their plausibility. Methods: To accomplish this research, we designed a data-driven framework to infer clusters of health conditions, which we referred to as phenotypic patterns, via their shared clinical workflows, which we refer to as coordinating care patterns, from the data inherent in electronic medical records (EMRs). We applied the framework with approximately 16,500 inpatient stays from a large medical center. The plausibility of the inferred health condition clusters for bundled care was assessed through a survey (whose responses were analyzed via an analysis of variance (ANOVA) under a 95% confidence interval) of a panel of five experts. Furthermore, the face validity of the inferred health condition clusters was confirmed by evidence in the published literature. Results: The framework inferred four condition clusters: 1) fetal abnormalities, 2) late pregnancies, 3) prostate problems, and 4) chronic diseases (with congestive heart failure featuring prominently). Each cluster had evidence in the literature and was deemed to be plausible for bundled care via ANOVA on the survey responses under a 95% confidence interval. Conclusions: The findings suggest that data from EMRs can provide a basis for discovering new directions in bundled care. Temporal dynamics of connectivity and epidemic properties of growing networks

Traditional mathematical models of epidemic disease had for decades conventionally considered static structure for contacts. Recently, an upsurge of theoretical inquiry has strived towards rendering the models more realistic by incorporating the temporal aspects of networks of contacts, societal and online, that are of interest in the study of epidemics (and other similar diffusion processes). However, temporal dynamics have predominantly focused on link fluctuations and nodal activities, and less attention has been paid to the growth of the underlying network. Many real networks grow: Online networks are evidently in constant growth, and societal networks can grow due to migration flux and reproduction. The effect of network growth on the epidemic properties of networks is hitherto unknown, mainly due to the predominant focus of the network growth literature on the so-called steady state. This paper takes a step towards alleviating this gap. We analytically study the degree dynamics of a given arbitrary network that is subject to growth. We use the theoretical findings to predict the epidemic properties of the network as a function of time. We observe that the introduction of new individuals into the network can enhance or diminish its resilience against endemic outbreaks and investigate how this regime shift depends upon the connectivity of newcomers and on how they establish connections to existing nodes. Throughout, theoretical findings are corroborated with Monte Carlo simulations over synthetic and real networks. The results shed light on the effects of network growth on the future epidemic properties of networks and offers insights for devising a priori immunization strategies.

A curvilinear stochastic finite-difference time-domain (S-FDTD) methodology is presented in this paper for the systematic analysis of lightning-induced fields over rough terrains with statistical uncertainties. The novel 3-D technique stems from a covariant/contravariant formulation which can profitably handle the variation of specific parameters during a single run. To achieve further acceleration, graphics processing units (GPUs) with large core densities are utilized, while a set of realistic setups is addressed for the validation of proposed algorithm.
