This paper proposes a new land cover mapping algorithm that combines the strengths of random forest (RF) with a Markov random field (MRF) model. The idea is to transform the observed data into the decision domain of weak classifiers inside an RF. Due to how RF are trained, these decisions can be considered to be independent from each others, and therefore the joint probability density function in the decision domain can be both easily and accurately estimated. For a decision vector from RF, and under an MRF model, the optimum land cover map is iteratively searched. The performances of the proposed algorithm were evaluated using a real remote-sensing image, and we found that the resulting land cover maps are more accurate than most traditional classifiers in all sizes of training samples.

Owner identification is an important aspect of improving network visibility and enhancing network security within local area networks deploying IPv6. This paper presents a simulation study for owner identification in an enterprise local area network from their IPv6 addresses. The study is based around the reverse implementation (many-to-one mapping) of a one-to-many reversible mapping. The paper reviews the many-to-one mechanism and the associated simulation software development, followed by presentation of results obtained from required functional tests. The IPv6 address data can be obtained from the output of any network monitoring software. In addition to a text format for verification, it also uses a checksum for validation which is used during the IPv6 address generation and identification. The simulation software given here can easily identify an IPv6 address owner if the IPv6 address is properly generated by the mechanism and it can display particular verification messages.

A measurement of the Higgs boson mass and width via its decay to two Z bosons is presented. Proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, is used. The invariant mass distribution of four leptons in the on-shell Higgs boson decay is used to measure its mass and constrain its width. This yields the most precise single measurement of the Higgs boson mass to date, 125.04±0.12 GeV, and an upper limit on the width ΓH<330 MeV at 95% confidence level. A combination of the on- and off-shell Higgs boson production decaying to four leptons is used to determine the Higgs boson width, assuming that no new virtual particles affect the production, a premise that is tested by adding new heavy particles in the gluon fusion loop model. This result is combined with a previous CMS analysis of the off-shell Higgs boson production with decay to two leptons and two neutrinos, giving a measured Higgs boson width of 3.0−1.5+2.0 MeV, in agreement with the standard model prediction of 4.1 MeV. The strength of the off-shell Higgs boson production is also reported. The scenario of no off-shell Higgs boson production is excluded at a confidence level corresponding to 3.8 standard deviations.

In manufacturing enterprises, maintenance is a significant contributor to the total company's cost. Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) relies on prognostic models and uses them to support maintenance decisions based on the current and predicted health state of equipment. Although decision support for CBM is not an extensively explored area, there exist methods which have been developed in order to deal with specific challenges such as the need to cope with real-time information, to prognose the health state of equipment and to continually update decision recommendations. We propose an approach for supporting analysts selecting the most suitable combination(s) of methods for prognostic-based maintenance decision support according to the requirements of a given maintenance application. Our approach is based on the ID3 decision tree learning algorithm and is applied in a maintenance scenario in the oil and gas industry.

Chip-multiprocessors are facing worsening reliability due to prolonged operational stresses, with their tile-interconnecting Network-on-Chip (NoC) being especially vulnerable to wearout-induced failure. To tackle this ominous threat we present a novel wear-aware routing algorithm that continuously considers the stresses the NoC experiences at runtime, along with temperature and fabrication process variation metrics, steering traffic away from locations that are most prone to Electromigration (EM)- and Hot-Carrier Injection (HCI)-induced wear. Under realistic applications our wear-aware algorithm yields 66% and 8% average increases in mean-time-to-failure for EM and HCI, respectively. Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).
