In this paper, Differential Evolution (DE) is used for the evolutionary optimization of control of chaotic Lozi map system. The novality of the approach is that the identical selected discrete dissipative chaotic system is used as the chaotic pseudo random number generator to drive the mutation and crossover process in the DE. The optimization was performed for two types of case studies and developed cost functions. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) was introduced some years ago as a paradigm that allows companies to expose their core competencies as services. Yet, we can only benefit from the full potential of SOC if we explore the possibility of composing services. In practice, service composition enables the development of complex systems by combining existing services, which makes it possible to integrate business processes across different companies. Several languages have been defined to specify service compositions, such as WSBPEL and WS-CDL. However, these languages lack formal semantics, so that they do not allow the verification of the service composition behavior by means of properties such as the absence of deadlocks and livelocks. In this paper, we present a structured survey on initiatives in which formal description techniques were applied to specify and possibly verify service compositions. As a result of this study, we identified some open challenges and some topics for future work.

In model-based design of cyber-physical systems, such as switched mixed-signal circuits or software-controlled physical systems, it is common to develop a sequence of system models of different fidelity and complexity, each appropriate for a particular design or verification task. In such a sequence, one model is often derived from the other by a process of simplification or implementation. E.g. a Simulink model might be implemented on an embedded processor via automatic code generation. Three questions naturally present themselves: how do we quantify closeness between the two systems? How can we measure such closeness? If the original system satisfies some formal property, can we automatically infer what properties are then satisfied by the derived model? This paper addresses all three questions: we quantify the closeness between original and derived model via a distance measure between their outputs. We then propose two computational methods for approximating this closeness measure. Finally, we derive syntactical re-writing rules which, when applied to a Metric Temporal Logic specification satisfied by the original model, produce a formula satisfied by the derived model. We demonstrate the soundness of the theory with several experiments. © 2014 IEEE.

The FAMU experiment aims to accurately measure the hyperfine splitting of the ground state of the muonic hydrogen atom. A measurement of the transfer rate of muons from hydrogen to heavier gases is necessary for this purpose. In June 2014, within a preliminary experiment, a pressurized gas-target was exposed to the pulsed low-energy muon beam at the RIKEN RAL muon facility (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK). The main goal of the test was the characterization of both the noise induced by the pulsed beam and the X-ray detectors. The apparatus, to some extent rudimental, has served admirably to this task. Technical results have been published that prove the validity of the choices made and pave the way for the next steps. This paper presents the results of physical relevance of measurements of the muon transfer rate to carbon dioxide, oxygen, and argon from non-thermalized excited µp atoms. The analysis methodology and the approach to the systematics errors are useful for the subsequent study of the transfer rate as function of the kinetic energy of the µp currently under way. Introduction: Intensive care unit patients are heavily monitored, and a number of clinically relevant parameters are routinely extracted from high resolution signals. In particular, heart rate is derived from intervals between pulses in pseudo-periodic signals such as the electrocardiogram (ECG) or arterial blood pressure (ABP) waveforms. However, poor signal quality and high noise levels can unfortunately lead to false localisation of these pulses (or peaks), resulting in incorrect estimates of heart rate. The goal of the 2014 Physionet/CinC Challenge was to encourage the creation of an intelligent system that fused information from different biosignals to create a robust set of peak detections. Methods: First, a set of peak detectors were evaluated on different cardiovascular signals. The detections were then fused using two different approaches: the first one was based on a calculated measures of signal quality for the ECG and ABP signals and the the second fusion technique was based on the regularity of the derived intervals between subsequent detections made on ECG, ABP, Stroke Volume and Photoplethysmogram signals. These techniques were developed using the MGH/MF database and submitted for scoring on the Challenge test-set. Conclusion: The best entries for the two approaches obtained an overall score of 87.88% and 87.66%, respectively, in phase III of the challenge, which provided the highest official score.

Power transmission lines are constant targets of high electrical discharges such as corona and lightning. This last is manly characterized as a high impulse voltage, which can rapidly cause severe damages to equipment in the lines. Therefore, detect the amplitude of these discharges in power lines is critical for the proper design of protective systems. Recently an impulse voltage sensor based on electret films was presented. The sensor employs a spherical electrode in direct contact with a grounded thin electret film. Whenever a negative electrical impulse voltage is applied on the spherical electrode, partial discharges occurs all around the electrode forming a circular pattern that can be visualized if toner is spread over the film. Depending on the discharge amplitude circles with larger diameter are formed. In this paper we present a software implementation through which the discharge images with circular patters can be measured and direct correlated to the impulse discharge amplitude, providing a reliable and fast method for measuring electrical discharges in the field. The software was validated performing measurements of the images diameter and correlating it with well defined discharges amplitude. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper presents aspects concerning the design and testing of a new data-driven Iterative Reference Input Tuning (IRIT) algorithm that solves a reference trajectory tracking problem expressed as an optimization problem with control signal saturation constraints and control signal rate constraints. The design of the IRIT algorithm uses an experiment-based stochastic search algorithm formulated in the framework of Iterative Learning Control (ILC) in order to combine the advantages of data-driven control and of ILC. The iterative tuning is model-free in the sense it does not use control system models. A set of simulation results tests and validates the IRIT algorithm in a case study related to a representative mechatronics application that deals with the position control of a nonlinear aero-dynamical system. The IRIT algorithm offers the performance improvement by few iterations and experiments conducted on the process.

Today, human detection and tracking is important challenge for many aims. In this study, we are used Ultra Wide Band (UWB) radar for human respiratory detection behind a wall. The modulated system to get the breathing signal is introduced. The results of simulation part of the established system are presented. Suitable antenna for using as a transmitter and receiver is being discussed. In this paper, we study the problem of resource allocation for a multiuser orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) downlink with eavesdropping. The considered setup consists of a base station, several users and a single eavesdropper that indents to wiretap the transmitted message within each OFDMA subchannel. By taking into consideration the existence of the eavesdropper, the base station aims to assign subchannels and allocate the available power in order to optimize the max-min fairness criterion over the users' secrecy rate. The investigated problem is hard to be solved because of its combinatorial and nonlinear nature. Thus, optimality is discussed for two particular cases where the available power tends to infinity and zero, respectively. The optimal solution is obtained by formulating a mixed integer linear problem in the first case and a series of linear sum assignment problems in the second. In addition, two low-complexity solutions are presented which are based on decoupling the subchannel and the power allocation subproblems. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the performance of the presented solutions.

This research analyses the development of a complex network in the swarm based Discrete Self-Organising Migrating Algorithm (DSOMA). The main aim is to evaluate if a complex network is generated in DSOMA, and how the population can be evaluated when the objective is to optimise the flow shop scheduling with blocking problem. The population is evaluated as a complex network over a number of migrations, and different attributes such as adjacency graph, minimal cut, degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, Katz centrality, mean neighbour degree, k-Clique, k-Plan, k-Club, k-Clan and community graph plots are analysed. From the results, it can be concluded that an DSOMA population does behave like a complex network, and therefore can be analysed as such, in order to obtain information about population development. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014
