This paper presents two approaches in isolation of vibrations of driver's seat. The first approach shows the ability of Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) to adjust the stiffness of the air spring, which is implemented between cabin floor and the seat together with damper in order to isolate the vertical vibrations. The second approach is based on Artificial Neural Network Controller (ANNC) with purpose of improvement vibration isolation producing appropriate voltage for valve flow diameter control of semi-active damper. The quality of isolation is measured using standardized technique. The results of simulation in Matlab/Simulink, as well as the results of implemented controllers on a real experimental model are presented.

The generation and manipulation of entangled particles presents itself as one of the most important results in quantum mechanics. With the work from Bell, it was possible to prove the nonlocal nature of quantum mechanics, which is nowadays widely accepted. Apart from being possible to prove entanglement from Bell's inequality, it is difficult to compute the system as it increases the number of particles. Such a system containing N qubits can be described by Werner-Wolf-Zukowski-Brukner (WWZB) inequality. In this work, we show how to obtain the maximum of violation of WWZB inequality using a Werner state, simplifying the problem considerably. We get two different results; one for a system containing an odd number of particles and other for a system containing an even number.

Modern wireless networks are offering a wide range of applications that require the efficient integration of multimedia and traditional data traffic along with QoS provision. The IEEE 802.11e workgroup has standardized a new QoS enhanced access scheme for wireless LANs, namely Hybrid Control Function (HCF). HCF consists of the Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) and the Hybrid Control Channel Access (HCCA) protocols which manage to ensure QoS support. However, they exhibit specific weaknesses that limit network performance. This work analyzes an alternative protocol, called Priority Oriented Adaptive Polling (POAP). POAP is an integrated channel access mechanism, is collision free, it employs priorities to differentiate traffic in a proportional way, it provides fairness, and generally supports QoS for all types of multimedia applications, while efficiently serving background data traffic. POAP is compared to HCF in order to examine the wireless network performance when serving integrated traffic. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.

Sponsored search auctions constitutes the most important source of revenue for search engine companies, offering new opportunities for advertisers. The Trading Agent Competition (TAC) Ad Auctions tournament is one of the first attempts to study the competition among advertisers for their placement in sponsored positions along with organic search engine results. In this paper, we describe agent Mertacor, a simulation-based game theoretic agent coupled with on-line learning techniques to optimize its behavior that successfully competed in the 2010 tournament. In addition, we evaluate different facets of our agent to draw conclusions about certain aspects of its strategy. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

3D object retrieval based on range image queries that represent partial views of real 3D objects is presented. The complete 3D models of the database are described by a set of panoramic views, and a Bag-of-Visual-Words model is built using SIFT features extracted from them. To address the problem of partial matching, we suggest a histogram computation scheme, on the panoramic views, that represents local information by taking into account spatial context. Furthermore, a number of optimization techniques are applied throughout the process for enhancing the retrieval performance. Its superior performance is shown by evaluating it against state-of-the-art methods on standard datasets. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Face Recognition Using Holistic Features and Within Class Scatter-Based PCA

The Principle Component Analysis (PCA) and its variations are the most popular approach for features clustering, which is mostly implemented for face recognition. The optimum projection matrix of the PCA is typically obtained by eigenanalysis of global covariance matrix. However, the projection data using the PCA are lack of discriminatory power. This problem is caused by removing the null space of data scatter that contains much discriminant information. To solve this problem, we present alternative strategy to the PCA called alternative PCA, which obtains the optimum projection matrix from within class scatter instead of global covariance matrix. This algorithm not only provides better features clustering than that of common PCA (CPCA) but also can overcome the retraining problem of the CPCA. In this paper, this algorithm is applied for face recognition with the holistic features of face image, which has compact size and powerful energy compactness as dimensional reduction of the raw face image. From the experimental results, the proposed method provides better performance for both recognition rate and accuracy parameters than those of CPCA and its variations when the tests were carried out using data from several databases such as ITS-LAB., INDIA, ORL, and FERET.

Multi-layer structures of single-walled carbon nanotubes mixtures with epoxy resin at different weight percentages are studied for maximizing the absorption of incident waves over X-Band. A short survey is also performed in 1-5 GHz. A plane wave from various elevation angles is illuminating the structure. Comparison with reference results shows satisfactory agreement. An optimization method is adopted for minimizing both the Reflection and Transmission Coefficient with respect to the optimum thickness of each layer for structures with and without perfect electric conducting substrates. A drastically increased absorption greater than 90% is achieved with the presence of carbon nanotubes even without the use of perfect electric conducting substrates. Total thickness is similar to structures with perfect electric conducting substrates promising thus innovative and interesting components for both electromagnetic compatibility and radar absorbing material applications. © 2013 EMC Europe Foundation.

This Letter presents a search for new resonances with mass larger than 250 GeV, decaying to a Z boson and a photon. The dataset consists of an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb⁻¹ of pp collisions collected at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The Z bosons are identified through their decays either to charged, light, lepton pairs (e⁺e⁻, μ⁺μ⁻) or to hadrons. The data are found to be consistent with the expected background in the whole mass range investigated and upper limits are set on the production cross section times decay branching ratio to Zγ of a narrow scalar boson with mass between 250 GeV and 2.75 TeV. © 2016 The Author(s)
