We apply social network analysis methods on communication traces, collected from Virtual Machines (VMs) located in computing infrastructures, like a data center. Our aim is to identify important VMs, for example VMs that consume more energy or require more computational capacity, bandwidth, etc, than other VMs. We believe that this approach can handle the large number of VMs present in computing infrastructures and their interactions in the same way social interactions of millions of people are analyzed in today's social networks. We are interested in identifying measures that can locate important VMs or groups of interacting VMs, missed through other usual metrics and also capture the time-dynamicity of their interactions. In our work we use real traces and evaluate the applicability of the considered methods and measures.

This paper concerns the problem of optimal switching control in voltage converter circuits, where the objective is to minimize a cost-performance function comprised of the sum of a tracking-related measure and the switching energy. Most of the existing approaches to optimal switching are based on continuous-parameter optimization and optimal control techniques, which are mostly suitable to continuous-parameter functions such as tracking-related performance metrics. On the other hand, the switching-energy cost performance is inherently a discontinuous function dependent on the number of switchings, and hence its inclusion in the problem often is done in ad-hoc ways. This paper explores a systematic approach to optimizing performance - energy tradeoffs by extending an algorithm for optimizing tracking, developed by the authors, to include the energy performance via an averaging technique. The problem is posed in the setting of Pulse Width Modulation, and the controlled variables are the cycle time and duty ratios at each cycle. Extensive simulation results suggest the potential generality of the proposed approach.

This paper proposes a method for segmenting an unstructured dirt road in color space images using color and texture analysis. A support vector machine (SVM) classifier was trained on samples of on and off road patches from a similar road. Image patches were classified at sparse intervals at a fixed distance from the vehicle. Each patch is described by the Histogram of oriented gradients (HOG), the Local Binary Patters (LBP), a histogram of the color channel, and a histogram of a non linear color transform. The classified patches were transformed to the next frame of the sequence using the scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) to reduce reclassification of image patches. Morphological opening and closing were used to transform the points into a mask, and reduce errors. Experimental results indicated that the algorithm can accurately segment road images given a set of training data from similar road utilizing only color imagery.

In this work, we propose an efficient resource management approach for WDM-PON ring architectures that supports dynamic bandwidth allocation and sharing of downstream wavelengths. We propose a modification in the ONU design, to dynamically setup virtual circuits for inter-ONU communication. Its quality usually depends on several aspects that continuously change during the software's evolution. One of the aspects is a change in the source code structure. Inherently, such changes influence code quality and can thus affect a number of bugs in a software product. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to analyze the correlation between structural source code changes, made between software's versions, and the number of bugs. We give an overview of our recent work on graph based methods for various microscopy image analysis, including tracing over 3-D electron microscopy image stacks, tracking in time-lapse confocal image sequences, and 3D segmentation. Fuzzy Mean Linear Aliasing Window Kernel (FMLAWK) filter method proposed to reducing the high-density impulse noise interference and generating the smooth image performance. FMLAWK filter is a spatial filter, which combined from fuzzy method and Linear Aliasing Filter (LAF). The initial step is finding the degree of membership function (μ) value of each matrix element on the corrupted image which use the fuzzy method. Furthermore, the μ value of the corrupted image processed by LAF method which using 3×3 window. The reducing of 3×3 windows on LAF process will be obtain one pixel data based on Linear method. Our research also provides kernel algorithms. Preprocessing Kernel algorithm used for checking of each element matrix on the 3×3 window. If the matrix element contaminated by impulse noise, so the matrix element replaced with a new element data. Our simulation result shows the image filtering better and smoother quality than the comparison method.
