Electronic ink (E-ink) displays have become increasingly popular in e-books due to their paper-like appearance, readability in direct sunlight, low power consumption, and flexible sizing. However, the slow switching speed of bistable LCDs and E-ink limits their ability to play animations. This paper proposes a novel method for fabricating fast-switching bistable liquid crystal displays capable of playing animations. The research is based on a new type of bistable LCD technology that achieves lower driving voltages than existing E-ink displays. The research team has significant experience developing bistable displays and has invented many new technologies in their laboratory. The proposed technology combines the benefits of bistable displays with the ability to play animations, a significant advancement in display technology. © 2023, John Wiley and Sons Inc. Using a room-temperature dip-coating technique, we propose a cinnamate-unit-phosphonic-acid-based surface tantalignment material that can be orientated by linear polarized light. Using the technique, we can treat a substrate simply and quickly, achieving a uniform pretilt angle of approximately 86° with a low dose of polarized UV light. We examined the optical and electrical properties of the alignment material under different conditions, including pretilt angles under different irradiation doses, voltage holding ratio (VHR) and residual direct circuit (RDC) when using different solvents, stability, etc. The results show that the material has acceptable performance. Since the phosphonic acid series photosensitive materials still have much room for optimization, we believe it is a potential new generation of photosensitive surfactant alignment materials. © 2024, John Wiley and Sons Inc. Antimony selenide(Sb2Se3) films are widely used in phase change memory and solar cells due to their stable switching effect and excellent photovoltaic properties. These properties of the films are affected by the film thickness. A method combining the advantages of Levenberg–Marquardt method and spectral fitting method(LM–SFM) is presented to study the dependence of refractive index(RI), absorption coefficient, optical band gap, Wemple–Di Domenico parameters, dielectric constant and optical electronegativity of the Sb2Se3films on their thickness. The results show that the RI and absorption coefficient of the Sb2Se3films increase with the increase of film thickness, while the optical band gap decreases with the increase of film thickness. Finally, the reasons why the optical and electrical properties of the film change with its thickness are explained by x-ray diffractometer(XRD), energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer(EDS), Mott–Davis state density model and Raman microstructure analysis.

Pain is a multidimensional and highly personalized sensation that affects individuals’ physical and emotional state. Visual analog scales, numeric rate indicators, and various questionnaires, all relying on patient-reported outcome measurements, are considered the "gold" standard methods for assessing the severity of pain. Nevertheless, self-report tools require cognitive, linguistic, and social abilities, which may manifest variations in certain populations such as neonates, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and those affected by dementia. The purpose of this study is to automate the process through multimodal physiological-data-driven machine-learning models in order to gain deeper insights into pain sensation. We developed a pipeline using electrocardiogram (ECG), galvanic skin response (GSR), and electromyogram (EMG), along with demographic information from the BioVid dataset. The Pan & Tompkins algorithm was applied for ECG signal processing, while statistical analysis was used for feature extraction across all signals. Our study achieved 82.83% accuracy in the SVM classification task of baseline (BL) vs the highest level of pain (PA4) for females aged 20-35. Authentication of the digital image has much attention for the digital *** image authentication can be verified with image watermarking and image encryption *** schemes are widely used to protect images against forgery attacks,and they are useful for protecting copyright and rightful *** on the desirable applications,several image encryption and watermarking schemes have been proposed to moderate this *** framework presents a new scheme that combines a Walsh Hadamard Transform(WHT)-based image watermarking scheme with an image encryption scheme based on Double Random Phase Encoding(DRPE).First,on the sender side,the secret medical image is encrypted using *** the encrypted image is watermarking based on *** combination between watermarking and encryption increases the security and robustness of transmitting an *** performance evaluation of the proposed scheme is obtained by testing Structural Similarity Index(SSIM),Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio(PSNR),Normalized cross-correlation(NC),and Feature Similarity Index(FSIM).

Biometric security is a growing trend,as it supports the authentication of persons using conﬁdential biometric *** of the transmitted data in multi-media systems are susceptible to attacks,which affect the security of these *** systems provide sufﬁcient protection and privacy for *** recently-introduced cancellable biometric recognition systems have not been investigated in the presence of different types of *** addition,they have not been studied on different and large biometric *** point that deserves consideration is the hardware implementation of cancellable biometric recognition *** paper presents a suggested hybrid cancellable biometric recognition system based on a 3D chaotic *** rationale behind the utilization of the 3D chaotic cryptosystem is to guarantee strong encryption of biometric templates,and hence enhance the security and privacy of *** suggested cryptosystem adds signiﬁcant permutation and diffusion to the encrypted biometric *** introduce some sort of attack analysis in this paper to prove the robustness of the proposed cryptosystem against *** addition,a Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA)implementation of the pro-posed system is *** obtained results with the proposed cryptosystem are compared with those of the traditional encryption schemes,such as Double Random Phase Encoding(DRPE)to reveal superiority,and hence high recogni-tion performance of the proposed cancellable biometric recognition *** obtained results prove that the proposed cryptosystem enhances the security and leads to better efﬁciency of the cancellable biometric recognition system in the presence of different types of attacks.

This paper presents a comprehensive framework for activity recognition and anomaly detection in smart home environments, targeting applications in convenience, efficiency, responsiveness, and healthcare. The proposed framework incorporates explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) to interpret feature impacts on learning models and optimize feature selection for activity recognition and anomaly detection. The study examines the recognition of two activity sets: Activities Set I, comprising 8 activities, and Activities Set II, comprising 11 activities. Various machine learning models (random forest (RF), decision tree (DT), and XGBoost (XGB)) are employed, along with an ensemble voting classifier (EVC) with these machine learning. EVC achieved 91% accuracy for Activities Set I and 90–91% accuracy for Activities Set II. The model demonstrated strong precision, recall, and F1-score across most classes. For anomaly detection, the Isolation Forest and H2O Isolation Forest Estimator algorithms are utilized to uncover irregularities in daily routines. The Isolation Forest identified anomalies in activities such as chores and desk-related tasks, while the H2O Isolation Forest Estimator detected no anomalies in either activity set. This study underscores the potential of the proposed framework to enhance smart home functionality and highlights avenues for future research and system improvements. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

In this paper, we introduce a systematic design of an end-to-end cyber-secure monitoring and safe operation framework for solar photovoltaic (PV)-rich microgrids, by focusing on the use of on-line attack detector for defending against potential cyber-physical attacks and sensor measurement data processing for operational safety. The proposed approach is based on: 1) identifying component models using their input and output measurements;2) dynamic watermarking (DW) methodology for on-line cyber-attack detection and its timing;and 3) an adaptive event-driven safe shutdown procedure after attack detection. It is shown how these three components interactive steps jointly to ensure safe operation under both normal operational scenarios and compromised operational scenarios with some malicious sensors caused by cyber-attacks on solar PV microgrids. Through this on-line integration, the proposed framework dynamically adapts to varying solar irradiance, load demands, operating conditions, and potential cyber-physical attacks. This forms a cyber-physical system which can pro-actively detect and mitigate potential cyber-physical attacks on solar PV microgrids. We describe its proof-of-concept implementation using real-world industrial solar farm data provided by the CenterPoint Energy. This study contributes to enhancing the cyber-security and safe operation of solar PVrich power systems, offering a scalable solution to other types of emerging renewable-rich energy distribution systems. © 2024 IEEE.
