Progressive Motion Boosting for Video Frame Interpolation

Video frame interpolation has made great progress in estimating advanced optical flow and synthesizing in-between frames sequentially. However, frame interpolation involving various resolutions and motions remains challenging due to limited or fixed pre-trained networks. Inspired by the success of the coarse-to-fine scheme for video frame interpolation, i.e., gradually interpolating frames of different resolutions, we propose a progressive boosting network (ProBoost-Net) based on a multi-scale framework to achieve flexible recurrent scales and then gradually optimize optical flow estimation and frame interpolation. Specifically, we designed a dense motion boosting (DMB) module to transfer features close to real motion to the decoded features from the later scales, which provides complementary information to refine the motion further. Furthermore, to ensure the accuracy of the estimated motion features at each scale, we propose a motion adaptive fusion (MAF) module that adaptively deals with motions with different receptive fields according to the motion conditions. Thanks to the framework’s flexible recurrent scales, we can customize the number of scales and make trade-offs between computation and quality depending on the application scenario. Extensive experiments with various datasets demonstrated the superiority of our proposed method over state-of-the-art approaches in various scenarios. © 2023 Institute of electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. The millimeter wave (mmWave) radar sensing-aided communications in vehicular mobile communication systems is investigated. To alleviate the beam training overhead under high mobility scenarios, a successive pose estimation and beam tracking (SPEBT) scheme is proposed to facilitate mmWave communications with the assistance of mmWave radar sensing. The proposed SPEBT scheme first resorts to a Fast Conservative Filtering for Efficient and Accurate Radar odometry (Fast-CFEAR) approach to estimate the vehicle pose consisting of 2-dimensional position and yaw from radar point clouds collected by mmWave radar sensor. Then, the pose estimation information is fed into an extend Kalman filter to perform beam tracking for the line-of-sight channel. Owing to the intrinsic robustness of mmWave radar sensing, the proposed SPEBT scheme is capable of operating reliably under extreme weather/illumination conditions and large-scale global navigation satellite systems (GNSS)-denied environments. The practical deployment of the SPEBT scheme is verified through rigorous testing on a real-world sensing dataset. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SPEBT scheme is capable of providing precise pose estimation information and accurate beam tracking output, while reducing the proportion of beam training overhead to less than 5% averagely. © 2023 IEEE.

Differential signals are key in control engineering as they anticipate future behavior of process variables and therefore are critical in formulating control laws such as proportional-integral-derivative(PID).The practical challenge,however,is to extract such signals from noisy measurements and this difficulty is addressed first by *** in the form of linear and nonlinear tracking differentiator(TD).While improvements were made,TD did not completely resolve the conflict between the noise sensitivity and the accuracy and timeliness of the *** two approaches proposed in this paper start with the basic linear TD,but apply iterative learning mechanism to the historical data in a moving window(MW),to form two new iterative learning tracking differentiators(IL-TD):one is a parallel IL-TD using an iterative ladder network structure which is implementable in analog circuits;the other a serial IL-TD which is implementable digitally on any computer *** algorithms are validated in simulations which show that the proposed two IL-TDs have better tracking differentiation and de-noise performance compared to the existing linear TD.

One of the most challenging problems in designing and implementing effective management strategies and demand responses in renewable-rich grids is the uncertainty associated with the power output (PO) of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The exact and trustworthy prediction of PV power can provide substantial decision support for planning and operating power systems. This paper develops an intelligent PV output power (PV-OP) forecasting model. The proposed PV-OP forecasting model consists of an Improved Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (ICEEMDAN) signal decomposition model to decompose the original PV output power signal to different frequencies, LSTM neural network as a main forecaster engine, and multi-objective NSGA-II optimization algorithm as a hyperparameters optimizer. The developed PV power forecasting model was validated using the PV power datasets of an off-grid village located in Chalokwa, Zambia. The obtained results confirmed the performance and accuracy of the proposed PV output power forecasting model. © 2023 IEEE.

Parity-time (PT) reversal symmetry, as a representative example in the field of non-Hermitian physics, has attracted widespread research interest in the past few years due to its extraordinary wave dynamics. PT symmetry enables unique spectral singularities including the exceptional point (EP) degeneracy where two or more eigenvalues and eigenvectors coalesce, as well as the coherent perfect absorber-laser (CPAL) point where laser and its time-reversal counterpart (i.e., coherent perfect absorber) can coexist at the same frequency. These singular points not only give rise to new physical phenomena but also provide new plausibility for building the next-generation sensors and detectors with unprecedented sensitivity. To date, investigations into EPs and CPAL points have unveiled their great potential in various sensing scenarios across a broad spectral range, spanning optics, photonics, electronics, and acoustics. In this review article, we will discuss ongoing developments of EP- and CPAL-based sensors composed of PT-synthetic structures and offer a glimpse into the future research directions in this emerging field. © (2024), (Electromagnetics Academy). Faced with the growing threat of intranet attacks and numerous network security solutions, the defensive capabilities of network security solutions need to be evaluated in order to reasonably select a network security solution. However, the existing assessment of the defense capability of network security solutions mainly focuses on anti-DDoS devices, and lacks the assessment of the defense capability of the intranet, and it is complicated to obtain the values of assessment indicators during the assessment process. In addition, it is also difficult to obtain ideas for defense improvement of network security solutions. In the face of this situation, we propose an intranet defense capability assessment method for network security solutions based on the ATT&CK framework from an attack perspective. This method introduces the ATT&CK framework into the assessment of the intranet defense capability of network security solutions, constructs an indicator system with comprehensiveness and good scalability, and involves tactics, techniques and sub-technologies in the enterprise framework used by 138 APT organizations in the ATT&CK framework as objective data for indicator assignment, balancing the influence of attackers’ subjective experiences and preferences on the assessment results, and this method can easily obtain ideas to improve the intranet defense capability of network security solutions. Robust Adversarial Attacks Detection Based on Explainable Deep Reinforcement Learning for UAV Guidance and Planning

The dangers of adversarial attacks on Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) agents operating in public are increasing. Adopting AI-based techniques and, more specifically, Deep Learning (DL) approaches to control and guide these UAVs can be beneficial in terms of performance but can add concerns regarding the safety of those techniques and their vulnerability against adversarial attacks. Confusion in the agent's decision-making process caused by these attacks can seriously affect the safety of the UAV. This article proposes an innovative approach based on the explainability of DL methods to build an efficient detector that will protect these DL schemes and the UAVs adopting them from attacks. The agent adopts a Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) scheme for guidance and planning. The agent is trained with a Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) with Prioritised Experience Replay (PER) DRL scheme that utilises Artificial Potential Field (APF) to improve training times and obstacle avoidance performance. A simulated environment for UAV explainable DRL-based planning and guidance, including obstacles and adversarial attacks, is built. The adversarial attacks are generated by the Basic Iterative Method (BIM) algorithm and reduced obstacle course completion rates from 97% to 35%. Two adversarial attack detectors are proposed to counter this reduction. The first one is a Convolutional Neural Network Adversarial Detector (CNN-AD), which achieves accuracy in the detection of 80%. The second detector utilises a Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network. It reaches an accuracy of 91% with faster computing times compared to the CNN-AD, allowing for real-time adversarial detection. © 2016 IEEE.
