This paper reports the first serotonin (5-HT) sensing ingestible capsule allowing minimally invasive real-time in vivo detection of luminally released serotonin in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The system utilizes a surface-mounted sensor with an Au-carbon nanotube (CNT) working electrode, Au counter electrode, and Ag/AgCl reference electrode. The capsule uses previously reported electronics packaged in a 3D-printed ASA shell to perform cyclic voltammetry, allowing the detection and quantification of local serotonin concentration with a dynamic range of 2-10 μM. This device marks a step toward wireless ingestible systems for real-time evaluation of gastrointestinal microbiome metabolites in vivo. © 2023 IEEJ.

Sentiment analysis and emotion classification are two crucial components of natural language processing (NLP), which have been widely explored in recent years due to their broad applications. Sentiment analysis aims to identify the polarity of written texts, ranging from positive to negative. Meanwhile, emotion classification is focused on recognizing and categorizing the emotional states expressed in the text. To achieve a deeper understanding of sentiments and emotions, it's essential to utilize models like BERT transformers that can effectively interpret the context. The process begins with data preprocessing, including tokenization and noise removal, followed by fine-tuning techniques to adapt the BERT model to the proposed tasks. We employed the BERT model on four datasets obtained from various sources, including Twitter, news websites, and restaurant reviews, where each dataset represents a distinct Arabic dialect. Our proposed model outperforms commonly used techniques like LSTM and CNN, yielding superior results. Despite the progress made, there are still challenges to overcome, such as dealing with Arabic diacritics, the new Arabic Arabizi, which uses Latin characters, and handling Arabic idioms. Further research is required to address these challenges adequately.

Pristine van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures formed between two-dimensional (2D) and other materials can be used to create optical and electronic devices. However, the weak vdW forces alone do not allow direct physical stacking of arbitrary layers. As a result, vdW heterostructure fabrication typically requires solvents, sacrificial layers or high temperatures, which can introduce damage and contaminants. Here, we show that adhesive matrix transfer can eliminate these limitations and can provide vdW integration beyond the limits of vdW forces. In the approach, a hybrid high- and low-adhesion surface is used to decouple the forces driving the transfer from the vdW forces defining the heterostructure of interest. We show that the technique can be used to achieve direct vdW integration of diverse 2D materials (MoS2, WSe2, PtS2 and GaS) with dielectrics (SiO2 and Al2O3), which is conventionally forbidden but critical for active devices and scalable, aligned heterostructure formation. The approach also allows single-step 2D material-to-device integration, which we illustrate by fabricating arrays of monolayer MoS2 transistors. As any exposure to solvents or polymers is avoided, the interfaces and surfaces remain pristine. Thus, intrinsic 2D material properties can be probed without the influence of processing steps. The materials can be further engineered through surface treatments and used to fabricate unconventional device form factors. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Limited.

NExpR: Neural Explicit Representation for fast arbitrary-scale medical image super-resolution

Medical images often require rescaling to various spatial resolutions to ensure interpretations at different levels. Conventional deep learning-based image super-resolution (SR) enhances the fixed-scale resolution. Implicit neural representation (INR) is a promising way of achieving arbitrary-scale image SR. However, existing INR-based methods require the repeated execution of the neural network (NN), which is slow and inefficient. In this paper, we present Neural Explicit Representation (NExpR) for fast arbitrary-scale medical image SR. Our algorithm represents an image with an explicit analytical function, whose input is the low-resolution image and output is the parameterization of the analytical function. After obtaining the analytical representation through a single NN inference, SR images of arbitrary scales can be derived by evaluating the explicit functions at desired coordinates. Because of the analytical explicit representation, NExpR is significantly faster than INR-based methods. In addition to speed, our method achieves on-par or better image quality than other strong competitors. Extensive experiments on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) datasets, including ProstateX, fastMRI, and our in-house clinical prostate dataset, as well as the computerized Tomography (CT) dataset, specifically the Medical Segmentation Decathlon (MSD) liver dataset, demonstrate the superiority of our method. Our method reduces the rescaling time from the order of 1 ms to the order of 0.01 ms, achieving an over 100× speedup without losing the image quality. The spread of Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19) in Indonesia is still relatively high and has not shown a significant decrease. One of the main reasons is due to the lack of supervision on the implementation of health protocols such as wearing masks in daily activities. Recently, state-of-The-Art algorithms were introduced to automate face mask detection. To be more specific, the researchers developed various kinds of architectures for the detection of masks based on computer vision methods. This paper aims to evaluate well-known architectures, namely the ResNet50, VGG11, InceptionV3, EfficientNetB4, and YOLO (You Only Look Once) to recommend the best approach in this specific field. By using the MaskedFace-Net dataset, the experimental results showed that the EfficientNetB4 architecture has better accuracy at 95.77% compared to the YOLOv4 architecture of 93.40%, InceptionV3 of 87.30%, YOLOv3 of 86.35%, ResNet50 of 84.41%, VGG11 of 84.38%, and YOLOv2 of 78.75%, respectively. It should be noted that particularly for YOLO, the model was trained using a collection of MaskedFace-Net images that had been pre-processed and labelled for the task. The model was initially able to train faster with pre-Trained weights from the COCO dataset thanks to transfer learning, resulting in a robust set of features expected for face mask detection and classification. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. Hybrid Graph: A Unified Graph Representation with Datasets and Benchmarks for Complex Graphs

Graphs are widely used to encapsulate a variety of data formats, but real-world networks often involve complex node relations beyond only being pairwise. While hypergraphs and hierarchical graphs have been developed and employed to account for the complex node relations, they cannot fully represent these complexities in practice. Additionally, though many Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have been proposed for representation learning on higher-order graphs, they are usually only evaluated on simple graph datasets. Therefore, there is a need for a unified modelling of higher-order graphs, and a collection of comprehensive datasets with an accessible evaluation framework to fully understand the performance of these algorithms on complex graphs. In this paper, we introduce the concept of hybrid graphs, a unified definition for higher-order graphs, and present the Hybrid Graph Benchmark (HGB). HGB contains 23 real-world hybrid graph datasets across various domains such as biology, social media, and e-commerce. Furthermore, we provide an extensible evaluation framework and a supporting codebase to facilitate the training and evaluation of GNNs on HGB. Our empirical study of existing GNNs on HGB reveals various research opportunities and gaps, including (1) evaluating the actual performance improvement of hypergraph GNNs over simple graph GNNs;(2) comparing the impact of different sampling strategies on hybrid graph learning methods;and (3) exploring ways to integrate simple graph and hypergraph information. Quantum diamond microscope for narrowband magnetic imaging with high spatial and spectral resolution

The quantum diamond microscope (QDM) is a recently developed technology for near-field imaging of magnetic fields with micron-scale spatial resolution, under ambient conditions. In the present work, we integrate a QDM with a narrowband measurement protocol and a lock-in camera, and we demonstrate imaging of radio-frequency (rf) magnetic field patterns produced by microcoils, with a spectral resolution of approximately 1Hz. This rf QDM provides multifrequency imaging with a central detection frequency that is easily tunable over the megahertz scale, allowing spatial discrimination of both crowded spectral peaks and spectrally well-separated signals. The present instrument has a spatial resolution of approximately 2μm, a field of view of approximately 300×300μm2, and a per-pixel sensitivity to narrowband fields of about 1nTHz−1/2. Spatial noise can be reduced to the picotesla scale by signal averaging and/or spatial binning. The rf QDM enables simultaneous imaging of the amplitude, frequency, and phase of narrowband magnetic field patterns at the micron scale, with potential applications in real-space NMR imaging, ac susceptibility mapping, impedance tomography, analysis of electronic circuits, and spatial eddy-current-based inspection.

Indoor positioning systems (IPS) are gaining higher attention recently due to the increased demand for indoor location aware services. Visible light communication (VLC) is a promising technology to use for IPS. In particular, received signal strength (RSS) based visible light positioning (VLP) systems are gaining high attention due to their low complexity and cost, in addition to higher positioning accuracy compared to their radio frequency (RF) counterparts. One of the main challenges in RSS based VLP systems is encountered when the receiver (the target) is tilted and not placed in parallel with the transmitters (the anchors). RSS based trilateration techniques require a computationally expensive and time-consuming process to solve the nonlinear problem of tilted receivers. Fingerprint based systems generally provide high positioning accuracy with short positioning time, and maybe used to circumvent the need to deal with the high complexity associated with tilted receivers. However, the design of a fingerprinting VLP system for tilted receiver has not been explored yet as far as receivers with a single photodetector (PD) are concerned. In this work, a fingerprint based VLP system for tilted receivers using artificial neural networks (ANN) is proposed, where different types of input features for training the positioning algorithm are studied. We show that using the components of the normal vector to the PD's surface in addition to RSS values provides an excellent positioning accuracy with an average positioning error of 25.41 cm and a remarkably low average positioning time less than $\mathbf{5} \boldsymbol{\mu} \boldsymbol{s}$ . In addition, important research directions for future work are discussed.
