Medical image reconstruction is often an ill-posed inverse problem. In order to address such ill-posed inverse problems, prior knowledge of the sought after object property is usually incorporated by means of regularization. For example, sparsity-promoting regularization in a suitable transform domain is widely used to reconstruct images with diagnostic quality from noisy and/or incomplete medical data. However, sparsity-promoting regularization may not be able to comprehensively describe the actual prior information of the objects being imaged. Deep generative models, such as generative adversarial networks (GANs) have shown great promise in learning the underlying distribution of images. Prior distributions for images estimated using GANs have been employed as a means of regularization with impressive results in several linear inverse problems in computer vision that are also relevant to medical imaging. However, in practice, it can be difficult for a GAN to comprehensively describe prior distributions, which can potentially lead to a lack of fidelity between the reconstructed image and the observed data. Recently, an image-adaptive GAN-based reconstruction method (IAGAN) was proposed to guarantee stronger data consistency by adapting the trained generative model parameters to the observed measurements. In this work, for the first time, we apply the IAGAN method to reconstruct images from undersampled magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measurements. A state-of-the-art GAN model called Progressive Growing of GANs (ProGAN) was trained on a large number of ground truth images from the NYU fastMRI dataset, and the learned generator was subsequently employed in the IAGAN framework to reconstruct high fidelity images from retrospectively undersampled experimental k-space data in the validation dataset. Solar dryer is typically used for agricultural purposes in Indonesia. There are many economically important crops requiring storage or drying under particular environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. High temperatures inside solar dryer prevents the growth of microorganism, and quickly reduce moisture content from the substance. A hybrid solar dryer is generally considered to provide the most optimum solution, however solar panels may be expensive and they still only provide heat or energy in the daytime. Hence, we propose here a new kind of hybrid solar dryer for 24/7 optimum conditions for crops - enabled by recent advances in energy technologies as well as Industry 4.0. This study aims to create an efficient, affordable and a self-sufficient intelligent energy system that will be applied to agriculture for storage or drying purposes by measuring the energy needs for the optimal drying system. Therefore, it is crucial to estimate and assess the critical energy needs for such new systems in order to optimize and design such smart solar dryer (SSD) system especially for Indonesia's agricultural needs. We use design experience of our industry partner (PT Impack Pratama Industri, Indonesia) who has been working extensively on such solar dryer dome (SDD) based on polycarbonate material (only solar irradiation, no other technologies) and theoretical framework based on first principles in thermodynamics to estimate and assess critical energy needs for such dome with all the smart technologies. The calculation was performed based on Mollier diagram and the result still a rough estimation of energy required.

electrical engineering and computer science as well as social/psychological and medical sciences have different traditions in conducting research and publishing it. These disciplines vary in the degree of focus and scrutiny they place on artifacts (e.g. software & models), knowledge, and methods, as well as the researcher's role and stance. In addition, there are differences between disciplines regarding the tools and measurements used and the subject of focus, whether human or machine. In recent years both disciplines are getting interested in studying similar research questions, whereas each party could benefit from interdisciplinary perspectives. This manuscript illustrates one relevant research area: The case of digital well-being intersects digital media design, primarily an engineering concern, with the goal of preserving and improving the well-being of users and society (the latter often being a focus of psychological and medical sciences). Logically, the goals of this research endeavor can be at best reached via interdisciplinary efforts, where the computer sciences meet the social/medical sciences. This will be also true for the new research area of AI well-being, and we discuss relationships between digital well-being and AI well-being on a theoretical level.

Photonic topological insulators (PTIs) have raised significant interest in recent years, in part because of their protected edge propagation. Most PTI realizations have been based on reciprocal platforms, with protection only from symmetry-preserving defects. Nonreciprocal PTIs protect against arbitrary disorder, but their implementation requires breaking reciprocity either through a magnetic bias or complex spatiotemporal modulation schemes. Here, we demonstrate that nonreciprocal topological protection can be achieved by optically pumping a nonlinear photonic crystal with a uniform bias field, drastically simplifying the implementation of quantum-Hall-like topological protection in silicon-compatible platforms for classical and quantum optics.

Colloidal rods immersed in a thermotropic liquid-crystalline solvent are at the basis of so-called hybrid liquid crystals which are characterized by tunable nematic fluidity with symmetries ranging from conventional uniaxial nematic or anti-nematic to orthorhombic [Mundoor et al., science 360, 768 (2018)]. We provide a theoretical analysis of the elastic moduli of such systems by considering interactions between the individual rods with the embedding solvent through surface-anchoring forces, as well as steric and electrostatic interactions between the rods themselves. For uniaxial systems the presence of colloidal rods generates a marked increase of the splay elasticity which we found to be in quantitative agreement with experimental measurements. For orthorhombic hybrid liquid crystals we provide estimates of all twelve elastic moduli and show that only a small subset of those elastic constants play a relevant role in describing the nemato-elastic properties. The complexity and possibilities related to identifying the elastic moduli in experiments are briefly discussed. The results are expected to be helpful in stimulating future studies on defect-dressed "topological" colloids and the analysis of boundary-driven phenomena where the non-trivial director topology generated by biaxial nematics plays a key role. © 2021, CC BY-NC-SA.

Currently, the growth of information and technology is rapid. It makes a lot of things in various fields including education becoming more effective and efficient. In education, one of its implementation which is a game is proven to be a useful tool to support conventional teaching methods and bring a more natural understanding of learning materials. Moreover, as a product of the popular culture in modern society, video game mirrors the general culture practice in real life and reflects it via its own culture inside the game. This makes a video game can give a contribution to the social construction of reality as it affects the player's view towards learning in real life and vice versa. From there, we see that there is an opportunity for learning about religion to be supported by its utilization to provide an interactive and fun learning experience. In this paper, we discuss how a video game is implemented to support religious learning. The game was developed with the scrum method where we surveyed to gather the user requirements before the design step. The game design was made by using the use case diagram and storyboard, and it was built using Unity version 2017.3.0f3. © 2019 IEEE.

Chern-Protected Flatband Edge State in Metaphotonics

Two-dimensional Dirac semimetals feature flatband edge states but a zero Chern number, while Chern insulators support one-way edge states associated with a nonzero Chern number. Here, we demonstrate a two-dimensional photonic crystal combining the response of a semimetal and of a Chern insulator, termed a Chern semimetal. This photonic semimetal is characterized by a nonzero Chern number, simultaneously hosting both a flatband edge state and a one-way edge state. We experimentally realize such a photonic Chern semimetal using a gyromagnetic photonic crystal with programmable magnetic bias, tailoring its second-neighbor coupling within each sublattice. We also verify the ability to control over the light speed while preserving topological protection. Our findings open new avenues toward exploring topological phases and their applications across fermionic and bosonic systems, providing an exciting platform for nanophotonic applications and a playground for topological physics discoveries.

The release of ChatGPT in 2022 has catalyzed the adoption of large language models (LLMs) across diverse writing domains, including academic writing. However, this technological shift has raised critical questions regarding the prevalence of LLM usage in academic writing and its potential influence on the quality and impact of research articles. Here, we address these questions by analyzing preprint articles from arXiv, bioRxiv, and medRxiv between 2022 and 2024, employing a novel LLM usage detection tool. Our study reveals that LLMs have been widely adopted in biomedical and other types of academic writing since late 2022. Notably, we noticed that LLM usage is linked to an enhanced impact of research articles after examining their correlation, as measured by citation numbers. Furthermore, we observe that LLMs influence specific content types in academic writing, including hypothesis formulation, conclusion summarization, description of phenomena, and suggestions for future work. Collectively, our findings underscore the potential benefits of LLMs in scientific communication, suggesting that they may not only streamline the writing process but also enhance the dissemination and impact of research findings across disciplines. © 2025 The Author(s). Diabetes poses a considerable global health challenge,with varying levels of diabetes knowledge among healthcare professionals,highlighting the importance of diabetes *** Language Models(LLMs)provide new insights into diabetes training,but their performance in diabetes-related queries remains uncertain,especially outside the English language like *** first evaluated the performance of ten LLMs:ChatGPT-3.5,ChatGPT-4.0,Google Bard,LlaMA-7B,LlaMA2-7B,Baidu ERNIE Bot,Ali Tongyi Qianwen,MedGPT,HuatuoGPT,and Chinese LlaMA2-7B on diabetes-related queries,based on the Chinese National Certificate Examination for Primary Diabetes Care in China(NCE-CPDC)and the English Specialty Certificate Examination in Endocrinology and Diabetes of Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United ***,we assessed the training of primary care physicians(PCPs)without and with the assistance of ChatGPT-4.0 in the NCE-CPDC examination to ascertain the reliability of LLMs as medical *** found that ChatGPT-4.0 outperformed other LLMs in the English examination,achieving a passing accuracy of 62.50%,which was significantly higher than that of Google Bard,LlaMA-7B,and *** the NCE-CPFC examination,ChatGPT-4.0,Ali Tongyi Qianwen,Baidu ERNIE Bot,Google Bard,MedGPT,and ChatGPT-3.5 successfully passed,whereas LlaMA2-7B,HuatuoGPT,Chinese LLaMA2-7B,and LlaMA-7B ***-4.0(84.82%)surpassed all PCPs and assisted most PCPs in the NCE-CPDC examination(improving by 1%–6.13%).In summary,LLMs demonstrated outstanding competence for diabetes-related questions in both the Chinese and English language,and hold great potential to assist future diabetes training for physicians globally.
