This paper proposes an end-of-sentence (EOS) token modeling approach for streaming conformer-based Korean children's speech recognition applied to a social robot. The baseline system for speech recognition is a streaming conformer-based speech recognition model with the joint connectionist temporal classification attention-based encoder-decoder architecture, and it is trained with the AIHub Child•Infant Free-Talk dataset. However, it is difficult to determine sentence boundaries in children's speech because the speaking style of children is somewhat different from that of adults. Thus, the proposed approach is to insert EOS tokens into each sentence of a large children's dataset to detect sentence boundaries. Finally, we evaluated the performance of the proposed approach on a dataset collected under scenarios of a voice interaction between children and a social robot. Consequently, the proposed EOS token modeling decreased character error rate by 1.7%, compared to the baseline. © 2023 IEEE.

As one of the cancer types with the highest incidence rates, colorectal cancer (CRC) would benefit from treatments with fewer side effects and reduced treatment-resistant potential. One of the options is to harness the anti-CRC potential of natural products. Previous studies have shown that Calamus draco exudate, dragon's blood, has anticancer activity in liver cancer and acute myeloid leukemia, but its bioactivity has not been studied in CRC. Here we conduct a bioinformatics study based on network pharmacology to explore the anti-CRC potential and mechanism of C. draco-derived compounds. The bioinformatics pipeline is composed of compound and target collection, biological network evaluation, and enrichment analysis. We found that there are 43 bioactive compounds from C. draco targeting 91 CRC-related targets, of which most compounds target MEN1, PTGS2, and IDH1. Further analyses show that the targets of C. draco are involved in the cellular response to hypoxia. By inhibiting those targets, C. draco bioactive compounds can potentially hinder angiogenesis and increase treatment response efficacy. © 2024 The Authors.

S1ow HTTP DDoS attacks involve sending numerous requests to a web server at a low rate, prolonging connection durations to saturate the server's connection pool and disrupt legitimate client access. Detection based on traffic volume monitoring is challenging because of the low traffic volume generated per unit time. Furthermore, attackers employ tactics, such as controlling request transmission rates, timing, and connection durations, to make detection more difficult. Existing mitigation methods statistically process the packet characteristics of an attack, taking at least approximately 20 s for identification and mitigation. Additionally, the false-positive rate for legitimate connections has not been considered, necessitating validation in real-world environments. We proposed a fast detection method that observes the state transitions for each flow of HTTP communication on the network path, cutting off incomplete connections that exceed predefined thresholds for connection duration and idle time. Using data captured from actual attacks, we conducted detection experiments, achieving an average detection and mitigation time of 10 s from the start of the attack. The identification accuracy, as measured by the F1 Score, was 0.986, and the false-positive rate was 0.0096. However, there are concerns about accidentally disconnecting legitimate traffic when applying this method to web servers handling a large number of HTTP communications. Therefore, in this study, we used a web server simulating real-world operations to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method and measured a false positive rate of 0.0013, confirming the efficacy of the proposed approach. © 2023 IEEE.

The diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a significant medical complication for diabetic patients, which often leads to lower limb amputation. The manual identification of ischaemia in DFU is laborious, time-consuming, and costly. This study aims to develop an efficient deep learning (DL) method for the early identification of ischaemia in DFU. Therefore, a novel Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture (HCNNet) is proposed by integrating multiple hybridised blocks from inception, residual, and dense modules along with appropriately placed Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) block and intermediate transition layers. The proposed HCNNet is trained several times using various optimizer and learning rate settings to optimise its performance. It achieves promising Area Under the ROC Curve (AUC) scores of 0.999 for ischaemia identification. The experimental results show that the proposed HCNNet outperforms existing State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) methods. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Emotion recognition can help human-computer interactions by enabling systems to respond empathetically and adapt to users' emotional conditions. This capability improves user experience, supporting the development of a more intuitive and emotionally responsive communication system. This study analyzes a bimodal approach based on gender (male and female) to recognize emotions without contextual information in dialogue analysis. Utilizing the Multimodal EmoryNLP dataset extracted from the TV series Friends with acted speech, we focused on four primary emotions: Angry, Neutral, Joy, and Scared. The model used in this study for text classification is RoBERTa, and wav2vec 2.0 is used for audio feature extraction with the Bi-LSTM model for classification. The experiment results using weighted F1-score reveal that data augmentation enhanced the performance of analyzing the original dataset from 0.46% to 0.52% and the male dataset from 0.43% to 0.51 %. In comparison, the female dataset remained consistent at 0.46%. The weighted F1-score and Unweighted Averaged Recall (UAR) from the male dataset are higher, 51 % and 48%, respectively, than those from the female dataset, 46% and 47%, respectively. Gender-based analysis indicated that male and female datasets exhibited distinct performance patterns, highlighting variations in emotional expression and recognition between genders. These findings underscore the effectiveness of multimodal strategies in emotion recognition and suggest that gender-specific factors play a significant role in enhancing classification performance. While these results highlight performance trends, further validation through repeated trials and statistical analyses could provide stronger generalizations and insights into gender-based differences. © 2024 IEEE.

Despite the potential benefits that the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) can bring to the system, it may cause problems related to power quality constraints, such $as$ reverse power flow in substation and overvoltages. An effective approach to address these problems involves the adoption of reactive and active power control in grid-tie inverters associated with DER. Therefore, this paper assesses the impacts of grid-tie inverter control modes, including both Volt-Var and Volt-Watt strategies, on the DER hosting capacity. In order to improve the overall system operation, modifications in the Volt-Var and Volt-Watt curves were proposed. It is noteworthy that these control strategies can have adverse effects on certain distribution system performance indicators, such $as$ voltage deviation and power losses;for this reason, these indicators are also evaluated in this study. A stochastic approach was adopted to deal with the uncertainties associated with DERs and loads. Finally, from tests conducted in the IEEE 33-bus test system, it was concluded that the proper adjustment of the Volt-Var and Volt-Watt control curves significantly influences DER hosting capacity, $as$ well $as$ voltage deviation and power losses. © 2023 IEEE.

A multi-trace surface integral equation (MT-SIE) solver is proposed to analyze electromagnetic field interactions on graphene-based devices. This solver decomposes the computation domain into an exterior subdomain (the background medium where the device resides in) and an interior subdomain that represents the device's dielectric substrate. The infinitesimally thin graphene sheet partially covers the interface between these two subdomains. On the graphene surface and the rest of this interface, resistive Robin transmission conditions (formulated for the first time in this work) and the traditional Robin transmission conditions are used to "connect"these two subdomains, respectively. In each subdomain, the electric and magnetic field equations are used as the governing equations. Various numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and the applicability of the proposed MT-SIE solver. © 2022 IEEE.

The field of Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is growing significantly in several areas but little research focuses on cultural behavior. How machine learning can explain human activity as a promotional tool in understanding cultural differences in a region is very challenging. Studies using Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), especially Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), require large data when used to research human activity recognition. Using small data is a challenge when using LSTM. This study aims to determine which data augmentation is most appropriate when used using LSTM to predict Japanese greeting gestures, namely eshaku, keirei, saikeirei, waving hands, and Indonesian greeting gestures, namely the movement of bringing both hands together in front of the chest with a slight bow of the head. This study proposes to compare several data augmentations, namely jittering, scaling, permutation, cropping, reverse, time shifting, frequency domain, and synthetic data generation. We evaluate model performance using the Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and coefficient of determination (R2) metrics. The experimental results show that Time Shifting has the best MSE, RMSE, and MAE values compared to others and Frequency Domain has the best R2 values compared to others. This study concludes that Time Shifting and Frequency Domain are the best data augmentation methods when using LSTM in predicting greeting gestures using small data. These findings provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of various data augmentation methods in motion prediction tasks with limited data sets, as well as the importance of selecting appropriate data augmentation methods in human motion analysis. Future work could use data from two or more people using model explanations generated by machine learning and developing a new method for cultural behavior. © 2024 IEEE.

Object-Centric World Model for Language-Guided Manipulation

A world model is essential for an agent to predict the future and plan in domains such as autonomous driving and robotics. To achieve this, recent advancements have focused on video generation, which has gained significant attention due to the impressive success of diffusion models. However, these models require substantial computational resources. To address these challenges, we propose a world model leveraging object-centric representation space using slot attention, guided by language instructions. Our model perceives the current state as an object-centric representation and predicts future states in this representation space conditioned on natural language instructions. This approach results in a more compact and computationally efficient model compared to diffusion-based generative alternatives. Furthermore, it flexibly predicts future states based on language instructions, and offers a significant advantage in manipulation tasks where object recognition is crucial. In this paper, we demonstrate that our latent predictive world model surpasses generative world models in visuo-linguo-motor control tasks, achieving superior sample and computation efficiency. We also investigate the generalization performance of the proposed method and explore various strategies for predicting actions using object-centric representations. Copyright © 2025, The Authors.
