Nanostructure investigations of nonlinear differential conductance in NdNiO3 thin films

Transport measurements on thin films of NdNiO3 reveal a crossover to a regime of pronounced nonlinear conduction below the well-known metal-insulator transition temperature. The evolution of the transport properties at temperatures well below this transition appears consistent with a gradual formation of a gap in the holelike Fermi surface of this strongly correlated system. As T is decreased below the nominal transition temperature, transport becomes increasingly non-Ohmic, with a model of Landau-Zener breakdown becoming most suited for describing I(V) characteristics as the temperature approaches 2 K.

We explore spatially localized solitonic configurations of a director field, generated using optical realignment and laser-induced heating, in frustrated chiral nematic liquid crystals confined between substrates with perpendicular surface anchoring. We demonstrate that, in addition to recently studied torons and Hopf-fibration solitonic structures (hopfions), one can generate a host of other axially symmetric stable and metastable director field configurations where local twist is matched to the surface boundary conditions through introduction of point defects and loops of singular and nonsingular disclinations. The experimentally demonstrated structures include the so-called “baby-skyrmions” in the form of double twist cylinders oriented perpendicular to the confining substrates where their double twist field configuration is matched to the perpendicular boundary conditions by loops of twist disclinations. We also generate complex textures with arbitrarily large skyrmion numbers. A simple back-of-the-envelope theoretical analysis based on free energy considerations and the nonpolar nature of chiral nematics provides insights into the long-term stability and diversity of these inter-related solitonic field configurations, including different types of torons, cholestric-finger loops, two-dimensional skyrmions, and more complex structures comprised of torons, hopfions, and various disclination loops that are experimentally observed in a confinement-frustrated chiral nematic system.

This paper addresses wireless relay networks consisting of a one-source-one-destination pair and N noncooperative relays. An objective of this paper is to analytically derive a closed form of an optimal relay amplifying vector (or matrix) for an amplify-and-forward (AF) wireless relay network under channel uncertainty (CU), jamming, and transmission power constraints at the relays, using the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion. In addition, this paper presents an efficient relay-selection strategy using the maximum SNR and minimum MMSE cost function criterions under an adverse wireless communication environment with transmission power constraint at the relays.

To support spatial scalability, the scalable extension of H.264/AVC (SVC) uses video cropping or uniform scaling to downscale the original higher-resolution (HR) sequence to a lower resolution (LR) one. Both operations, however, will cause critical visual information loss in the retargeted frames. The content-adaptive spatial scalability SVC coders (CASS-SVC) use non-homogeneous scaling to avoid critical information loss, which, however, requires to send additional side information to signal the decoder, thereby degrading coding efficiency significantly. To address the problem, we propose a low-overhead CASS-SVC coder consisting of three main modules: a mosaic-guided video retargeter, a side-information coder, and a non-homogeneous inter-layer predictive coder. Our experimental results demonstrate that, compared to existing CASS-SVC coders, our method cannot only well preserve subjective quality of important content in the LR sequence, but also significantly improves the coding efficiency of HR sequence. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper, a new approach to the topology configuration problem in the Island Model (IM) is proposed. The mechanism proposed works with a pool of candidates for migration and the choice of immigrants is performed using the usual selection techniques of evolutionary algorithms. Computational tests on IM versions of the Differential Evolution show positive effects of the proposed approach in terms of the number of function evaluations required for convergence.

The TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese for Interative Multi-criteria Decision Making) method has recently been extended firstly to fuzzy and next to intuitionistic fuzzy environments with promising results. In this paper, we further consider the extension of TODIM to interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) environments. Two case studies are used to illustrate the approach to multi-criteria decision making. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the presented method.

We have developed an MR compatible PET insert prototype to enable simultaneous PET-MR imaging of small animals inside a 7T animal MR imaging system. The 16 detectors in this system are based on the SensL SPMArray4B silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) and dual layer offset LYSO crystal blocks with crystal size of 1.2 × 1.2 × 4 mm~3 in the top layer and 1.2 × 1.2 × 6 mm~3 in the bottom layer, with 409 total crystals per detector. Each detector was evaluated by generating flood histogram images and measuring per-crystal photopeak amplitude and energy resolution. The system was tested for MR compatibility and no visible artefacts were seen in the MR images or in the PET detector flood images. The temperature of the detector modules was monitored and found to stabilize after approximately two hours of operation between 32℃ and 34℃. Photopeak amplitude, energy resolution and count rates recorded per crystal were studied at a baseline temperature of 30℃ and at temperatures ranging from 20℃ to 40℃ in increments of 2℃. When bias voltage to the detectors was fixed at the value corresponding to an overvoltage of 2.5V at 30℃, the photopeak amplitude changed by as much as 19% and 28% at 20℃ and 40℃ respectively. Energy resolution and count rates demonstrated similar degrees of change. Maintaining a fixed overvoltage at each temperature point reduced but did not completely eliminate the change in these output characteristics. A lookup table based on empirical measurements was employed for the adjustment of bias voltage at different temperatures to maximize the stability of detector modules. Measurements obtained by using this lookup table method demonstrate better stability when compared to results obtained by using a fixed overvoltage.

It is very important to understand the brain's biological cognition data processing mechanism for human cognitive ability and concentration enhancement. Based on biological data processing area and information flow, concentration indicators were defined to interpret the brain data processing mechanism in concentration by engineering, and cognitive concentration model based on this was proposed. The cognitive concentration model is the change of concentration patterns shown by EEG signal. Measurements of ZZ production in the ℓ+ℓ−ℓ′+ℓ′− channel in proton–proton collisions at 13 TeV center-of-mass energy at the Large Hadron Collider are presented. The data correspond to 36.1 fb−1 of collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2015 and 2016. Here ℓ and ℓ′ stand for electrons or muons. Integrated and differential ZZ→ℓ+ℓ−ℓ′+ℓ′− cross sections with Z→ℓ+ℓ− candidate masses in the range of 66 GeV to 116 GeV are measured in a fiducial phase space corresponding to the detector acceptance and corrected for detector effects. The differential cross sections are presented in bins of twenty observables, including several that describe the jet activity. The integrated cross section is also extrapolated to a total phase space and to all standard model decays of Z bosons with mass between 66 GeV and 116 GeV, resulting in a value of 17.3±0.9[±0.6(stat)±0.5(syst)±0.6(lumi)] pb. The measurements are found to be in good agreement with the standard model. A search for neutral triple gauge couplings is performed using the transverse momentum distribution of the leading Z boson candidate. No evidence for such couplings is found and exclusion limits are set on their parameters.

However, the embedding and extraction process of proposed scheme is simple and efficiency because of this paper is proposed by using data hiding and the visual secret sharing. When the user try to the access system, it is provided to the triple authentication of user that the extracted QR code image and the secret image are verified with the secret key of user.
