Generalized-linear dynamical models (GLDMs) remain a widely-used framework within neuroscience for modeling time-series data, such as neural spiking activity or categorical decision outcomes. Whereas the standard usage of GLDMs is to model a single data source, certain applications require jointly modeling two generalized-linear time-series sources while also dissociating their shared and private dynamics. Most existing GLDM variants and their associated learning algorithms do not support this capability. Here we address this challenge by developing a multi-step analytical subspace identification algorithm for learning a GLDM that explicitly models shared vs. private dynamics within two generalized-linear time-series. In simulations, we demonstrate our algorithm's ability to dissociate and model the dynamics within two time-series sources while being agnostic to their respective observation distributions. In neural data, we consider two specific applications of our algorithm for modeling discrete population spiking activity with respect to a secondary time-series. In both synthetic and real data, GLDMs learned with our algorithm more accurately decoded one time-series from the other using lower-dimensional latent states, as compared to models identified using existing GLDM learning algorithms. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. The minimum amount of perception that humans can perceive is called the stimulus threshold. This study aims to clarify the stimulus threshold of weight perception for the biceps brachii muscle based on a method of constant stimuli. In general, the stimulus threshold depends on the individual. The authors consider that physical characteristics are related to individual differences, construct a model of the relationship between physical characteristics and stimulus thresholds, and attempt to estimate stimulus thresholds from physical characteristics. The constructed model is evaluated via cross-validation and found to be able to estimate stimulus thresholds from physical characteristics with an 85% accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

Many individuals now trade online utilizing trading software in the digital world. Binomo is one of Indonesia's most popular trading platforms. This is because some influencers made several promises to Binomo customers. Since many customers were deceived, this case became quite popular. This study was executed to see how Indonesians felt about the Binomo application after the case went viral. The solution taken was in the form of sentiment analysis because there had been no previous research on sentiment analysis that discussed the Binomo case. The data was scanned using Netlytic tools, a cloud-based text and social network analyzer capable of identifying any talks on social media sites such as Twitter. The sentiment analysis of Binomo trading tweets by using the Multi-Perspective Question Answering lexicon utilized the KNIME tool. But unfortunately, the accuracy of sentiment analysis results is low. Furthermore, the Support Vector Machine technique is also being conducted. The Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency method is applied to perform feature extraction whilst the chi-square approach is utilized to identify features that are thought to be useful for inclusion in the classification process and to exclude features that are irrelevant to the target class. The obtained accuracy is 86%. The study proposes that words from the algorithm's outputs can be utilized to improve the quality of sentiment analysis using the lexicon. As an outcome of the algorithm, positive and negative terms are added to the lexicon, increasing the accuracy of sentiment analysis using the new vocabulary from 58.984% to 71.146%. © 2023 IEEE.

The use of high-penetration solar photovoltaics (PV) to transmission networks is complicated by voltage rise. Infractions of voltage occur when voltage levels surpass the permitted limits. Several solutions have been suggested to avoid voltage breaches, including volt-VAR control on inverters. In this research, the impact of utilizing dynamic volt-VAR control as opposed to static volt-VAR control in a high-penetration photovoltaic (PV) system is compared to the impact of applying static VAR compensator (SVC). With dynamic volt-VAR control, which takes into account the inverter's available reactive power capacity, it is possible to adjust the reactive power contribution of the PV inverter. The quantity of available capacity will affect the force of the control, as expressed by the droop gain. The transmission system's controls are evaluated for one year to determine the number of uncompensated voltage occurrences. The number of violations that the control cannot compensate for affects how much reactive power the SVC must provide. © 2023 IEEE.

In this work, a prototype system has been designed with a 0.18-μm CMOS technology to capture perspiration rate in daily life. To calculate an amount of perspiration, a temperature sensor is necessary concurrently with a relative humidity sensing. The designed temperature sensor consists of 8-bit binary digital-to-analog converter and an analog front-end circuit for thermistors. The designed circuits for temperature and humidity sensors have successfully verified. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents an ultra-wideband (UWB) medium power amplifier (MPA) and a broadband high-power power amplifier (HPA) operating at the 5G/6G frequency bands. By using 0.15~\mu \text{m} GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (pHEMT) technology process, the proposed UWB MPA delivers an average small-signal gain of 16.5 dB, a saturation output power (\text{P}_{\mathrm {sat}} ) of 24 dBm, and a peak power-added efficiency (PAE) over 24% from 24 to 38 GHz with a chip area of 2\times1 mm2. The broadband HPA demonstrates a 17-dB average small-signal gain, 29-dBm \text{P}_{\mathrm {sat}} , and a PAE over 28% from 24 to 32 GHz with a 2.4\times1.1 mm2 chip size. The measurement results have demonstrated the great potential of the proposed PA for 5G/6G millimeter-wave applications. © 2011 IEEE.

An experimental and numerical approach for optimization of internal and external corrugations with various geometries in cylindrical thin-walled concertina energy absorbers under quasi-static axial load

Thin-walled tubes have been extensively used as energy absorbers in many engineering structures that are under dynamic or quasi-static loads. In this article, the effect of corrugation and its geometry on the collapse characteristics of aluminum concertina tubes under quasi-static axial load is investigated both experimentally and numerically. The numerical simulations were performed with the use of LS-Dyna commercial software. Then, several chosen samples were tested experimentally to verify the results of the simulation. Forty different samples with four different corrugation geometries including singly isosceles triangular corrugation, continual isosceles triangular corrugation, continual scalene triangular corrugation, and continual semi-circular corrugation, and each with 10 different size dimensions were simulated. Among all of these simulations, six of them, each with two replicates were subjected to experimental tests. Experimental examples are aluminum cylindrical thin-walled tubes with the same thickness, height, and diameter that corrugations with different geometries are applied to them by the use of the cold rolling method. Finally, to describe the findings in more theoretical terms, a comparison between our obtained results and earlier theoretical investigations is made. The results show a significant influence of corrugations application on the improvement of the collapse characteristics of the cylindrical tubes so that the collapse style of intact tubes can be controlled by applying corrugations. The results show that by increasing the amplitude and number of corrugations, the absorbed energy, and the initial maximum force decrease. It is also found that among the different corrugation geometries, the corrugations with singly isosceles triangular geometry have the highest energy absorption as well as the lowest initial maximum force. © 2023 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

P2P-assisted distributed-server content delivery of 8K media : a DLT-based approach

In this paper we study the problem of multi-source, P2P-assisted, multimedia content delivery of 8K content. Such media constitute a big challenge for contemporary VoD services, as their media rate can surpass the clients’ upload/download speeds. Our proposed methods tackle this shortcoming while also allowing a reduction in the server resource consumption. Two methods are presented and evaluated, that include global and local multi-installment schemes, that are shown to surpass server-only or non-DLT-based content distribution by a fair margin, in all the significant metrics. Our methods can either offer a significant improvement in access time or a boost in the number of clients served, while at the same time reducing the consumed server resources. The performance of the proposed methods is evaluated with a rigorous simulation study based on the current state of the Internet on two geographic locations that represent best-case and average-case scenarios. Our findings suggest that the methodology used to assign the content parts to individual sources, has a big influence of the consumption of server resources, the system’s scalability and service quality. One of the proposed methods (LMI) achieves a maximum of 70.5% improvement on the average client access time, while saving up to 23% of server resources. Based on the system settings the reduced access-time/faster access to content can be balanced against an increase in the served clients by up to 25%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In this paper, we exploit caches on intermediate nodes for QoE enhancement of multi-view video and audio transmission over ICN/CCN by controlling the content request start timing of consumers. We assume the selected single viewpoint transmission method;a consumer receives video and audio streams of a requested viewpoint. We perform a simple experiment with two consumers. When the consumers play video and audio with the time difference, we assess the effect of cached content by the former consumer's request on the output quality of the latter consumer. We deal with two types of viewpoint change strategies for the former consumer, which affect the efficiency of cache utilization. From the assessment results, we see that cache utilization has an important factor in enhancing QoE. © 2023 IEEE.
