In this paper, we describe the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) implementation of our City-LES code on detailed large eddy simulations, including the multi-physical phenomena on fluid dynamics, heat absorption and reflection by surface and building materials, cloud effects, and even sunlight effect. Because a detailed simulation involving these phenomena is required for analyses at the street level and several meters of resolution, the computation amount is enormous, and ordinary CPU computation cannot provide sufficient performance. Therefore, we implemented the entire code on GPU clusters with large-scale computing. We applied OpenACC coding to incrementally implement relatively easy programming and eliminate data transfers between the CPU and GPU memories. Based on this research, we determined that the elimination of data transfers is effective, even in the case where a part of the code execution on the GPU is slower than the CPU, owing to the absence of spatial parallelism. The objective of this study is to perform a complete climate simulation on a few square-kilometers field around the Tokyo Station, considering the finest resolution of the original highlighted area of the Marathon race in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. We successfully transferred the entire code to the GPU to provide approximately eight times the performance of CPU-only computation on multi-GPU per node with a large scale cluster. © 2022, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

Plants can respond to changes in their surroundings, such as temperature, humidity, and human behavior. This ability is due to photosynthesis and respiration in plants, resulting in low electrical signals. We focus on room temperature change by plant bioelectric potential detection. The temperature topic is interesting for the actual research because it is one of important factor in health aspect. This study aims to analysis of temperature of Bioelectric potential of plant using machine learning. This implementation identifies the plants' bioelectric potential in distinguishing three-room temperature categories: A, B, and C temperature. We conducted the experimental in room control. For the transformation process is using wavelet transform. Furthermore, the analysis process, we used the Decision Tree (DT), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighborhood (K-NN), Naïve Bayes, and linear regression. Then, for the evaluation is using confusion Matrix. The result showed that the best level of transformation using Wavelet is 7thlevel for reducing the noise. Furthermore, the best accuracy of analysis process is using Decision tree which obtained 75%. © 2022 IEEE.

This research-to-practice paper describes developing and analyzing state-of-the-art smart boots created by combining CAD technology and advanced 3D printing techniques to attract students in bio-engineering and related fields. The primary objective of this innovative immobilization boot is to expedite fracture recovery phases through an ergonomic design to ensure optimal patient comfort during its use. Technological solutions are crucial in aiding the rehabilitation process for fractures caused by falls, heavy lifting, or rotational trauma. However, cost and comfort-related issues persist, underscoring the need for alternative approaches. This research addresses these challenges and delves into the broader implications of fracture treatment, catalyzing future projects and investigations in bioengineering. Additionally, this study serves as an educational tool that sparks the interest of high school and engineering students, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration in innovation. By involving students in specialized courses covering 3D design, human bone anatomy, biology, and materials science, this initiative empowers them to deepen their knowledge and develop new technologies to address bone injury problems. Material analyses include evaluating the type of material depending on the fracture site, such as PLA for printing and cotton and silicone gel for the midsection between the splint and the body. This research aims to advance our understanding of the type of fracture, the methods associated with their treatment, and tissue repair processes during bone callus formation. To summarize, this multidisciplinary approach drives advancements in bio-engineering and related fields, aiming to enhance patient outcomes and inspire students to pursue further research in bio-engineering and related fields. This work describes the investigation of planar waveguide crossings using metaheuristic methods associated with the two-dimensional finite element method (2D-FEM). An optimization and measurement process are performed on the power transmission and crosstalk of the waveguide crossings and then the values calculated are compared with other studies in the literature. The best performing adjusted crossing is optimally designed by applying the following metaheuristics: Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), and a hybrid algorithm combining the Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure and Simulated Annealing (GRASP-SA). Transmission efficiency results higher than 97% and crosstalk below the -50 dB over a wide wavelength range, with a footprint of $\mathbf{4.9}\times \mathbf{4.9}\ \boldsymbol{\mu} \mathbf{m}^{\mathbf{2}}$ .

In this paper, the overall health index of underground cable system is determined using Fuzzy Logic and Scoring and Weighting Average methods. The relevant data of 73 feeders has been collected in the prepared evaluation forms, divided into five major component groups: cable, joint, termination, manhole, and ductbank. In each component, various testing methods and diagnostic techniques are applied, and then the numerical score is determined according to the technical criteria for condition assessment. Subsequently, the obtained overall health index is multiplied with the conditional factor to incorporate the differences in installation type and configuration as well as the operating and environmental conditions. Finally, the overall health index based on these two methods is compared to verify the accuracy of the obtained results to properly plan the preventive and condition-based maintenance and to improve the reliability of the underground cable system. © 2023 IEEE.

Mammography is one of the essential screening technologies which is helpful to save the lives of women against breast cancer. Prediction of breast cancer from mammograms is not reached on its optimal level;hence there is a constant enhancement in clinical applications for mammographic breast density measurement. Optimal results in breast density measurement can be helpful to provide better care for women who have dense breasts. The sensitivity of digital mammograms reduces significantly in case dense breast, which may lead further to hide the cancerous lesions and may be converted into high stage breast cancer. Many research innovations and clinical applications are developed to support radiologists for the second opinion and predict breast cancer risk in advance. But still, there is an unsolved research question: which one is "dense breast"and which screening modularity is suitable for the dense breast to avoid the risk of breast cancer. Hence, currently, radiologists measure mammographic breast density with the help of BI-RADS classification, which is subjective. The basic inclination of this paper is to provide an overview of different clinical applications used for breast density measurement in the past and present with their potential technologies, advantages, disadvantages and current status of all various clinical applications in the market and provides thoughts on the future of automated mammographic breast density measurement. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The mechanism of chronic cancer pain has yet fully elucidated even though nearly 80% of cancer patients suffer from chronic pain. We investigated the difference in brain activities between painful and painless cancer patients from 103 FDG-PET brain images of the head-neck or esophageal cancer patients. Painful cancer patients showed enhanced activity in the bilateral amygdala, hippocampus, and pons, and inhibited activity in the precuneus and middle cingulate gyrus relative to the painless patients. The metabolic connectivity related to the above regions showed a significant relationship with brain regions associated with the default mode network (DMN) in the painful cancer patients, while no significant metabolic connectivity to the DMN regions was found in the painless patients. These results indicate that in cancer pain patients, chronic pain may increase limbic system activity and affect the DMN, leading to changes in the cognition of pain and visceral sensation. © 2021, Japan Soc. of Med. Using the plasma wave characteristics and remote sensing technology, the k-vector direction of plasma waves can provide important information for understanding the global features of space plasma. In this study, we proposed a Bayesian k-vector estimation method in magnetized cold plasma based on the wave distribution function method. The proposed method can be applied to various types of sensors with easy visualization and calculation of the estimation accuracy. We verified the effectiveness of the proposed method through simulations.

We introduce Phalanx, a failure-resilient truck pla- tooning system, where trucks in a platoon protect each other from sensor failures despite the lack of redundant sensors. For that, we first emulate the failed sensors by collectively utilizing other sensors across the platoon. If the failed sensor cannot be emulated, the control system is instantaneously reconfigured to a cooperative protection mode using only the live sensors. We take a scenario-based approach considering six scenarios with single and dual failures of the essential sensors (i.e., lidar, encoder, and camera) for platooning control. For each scenario, we present a protection method that enables the safe maneuvering of platoons. For the evaluation, Phalanx is implemented using our scale truck testbed instrumented with fault injection modules, demonstrating safe platooning controls for the failure scenarios.

This study introduces "CapSight,"a system for enhancing social interaction in visually impaired individuals. It includes a single-board computer, camera, vibration motors, and Bluetooth bone conduction headphones on a baseball cap. The camera identifies people using facial recognition and announces names through the headphones, with vibration motors indicating face positions. Users can add new friends by taking a photo and recording their name. This system helps visually impaired individuals recognize and locate social partners, boosting confidence and independence. © 2024 IEEE.
