This paper proposed a novel landing platform with wireless power transfer (WPT) to charge multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) without restrictions on landing locations or alignment. A transmitter is designed using wires to charge a wide area. To overcome the disadvantages of system made by wires, a grid pattern transmitter and double power line are proposed. These structures provide multiple charging with free positioning of receivers and excite the transmitter lines in wide area properly. The optimized system is composed of 0.15m square cells, providing a 0.9 m by 0.9 m charging area. By experiment, it can efficiently charge four 0.1 m square receivers located anywhere in transmitter. The overall efficiency of four receivers is 37.5%. Also, the experimental results verify that it is unnecessary to align the receiver within the cell, as it has a 2.62% error due to rotation and a 2.94 % error due to position within the cell.

With the rapid increase in Internet of Things (IoT) devices, packet collision has become a serious problem in Long Range (LoRa) communication. Furthermore, the rising demand for mobile IoT applications necessitates parameter allocation methods that take into account the mobility of End Devices (EDs). However, the existing transmission parameter selection methods considering mobility are almost centralized designs, which may increase the probability of interference and system latency. The decentralized design is few and requires prior information on ED, which may cause scalability issues, e.g., adding ED to an existing network. To solve the problems above, a method through a fully autonomous distributed design supposing the mobility of ED using Double Deep Q Network (DDQN) is proposed in this paper. In the proposed method, ED trains the model based on ACKnowledge (ACK) packets and its location information without any prior information. Performance evaluation results show that the proposed method can achieve a higher packet delivery rate than other autonomous distributed methods in mobile IoT scenarios.

We present an innovative, platform-independent concept for multiparameter sensing where the measurable parameters are in series, or cascaded, enabling measurements as a function of position. With temporally resolved detection, we show that squeezing can give a quantum enhancement in sensitivity over that of classical states by a factor of e2r, where r≈1 is the squeezing parameter. As an example, we have modeled an interferometer that senses multiple phase shifts along the same path, demonstrating a maximal quantum advantage by combining a coherent state with squeezed vacuum. Further classical modeling with up to 100 phases shows linear scaling potential for adding nodes to the sensor. The approach can be applied to remote sensing, geophysical surveying, and infrastructure monitoring.

Extremely large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (XL-MIMO) is expected to be an important technology in future sixth generation (6G) networks. Compared with conventional single-polarized XL-MIMO, where signals are transmitted and received in only one polarization direction, dual-polarized XL-MIMO systems achieve higher data rate by improving multiplexing performances, and thus are the focus of this paper. Due to enlarged aperture, near-field regions become non-negligible in XL-MIMO communications, necessitating accurate near-far field boundary characterizations. However, existing boundaries developed for single-polarized systems only consider phase or power differences across array elements while irrespective of cross-polarization discrimination (XPD) variances in dual-polarized XL-MIMO systems, deteriorating transmit covariance optimization performances. In this paper, we revisit near-far field boundaries for dual-polarized XL-MIMO systems by taking XPD differences into account, which faces the following challenge. Unlike existing near-far field boundaries, which only need to consider co-polarized channel components, deriving boundaries for dual-polarized XL-MIMO systems requires modeling joint effects of co-polarized and cross-polarized components. To address this issue, we model XPD variations across antennas and introduce a non-uniform XPD distance to complement existing near-far field boundaries. Based on the new distance criterion, we propose an efficient scheme to optimize transmit covariance. Numerical results validate our analysis and demonstrate the proposed algorithm’s effectiveness. Low-Cost CSRR-based Microwave Sensor for Evaluating Water Quality to Prevent Unwanted Sugar Contamination

This study proposes a low-cost microwave sensor for the monitoring of water quality contamination in irrigation systems. The sensor was employed for monitoring the concentration of specific compounds in mixtures of glucose and water, in order to prevent the accumulation of unwanted sugars in large plantations. The proposed sensor is an adaptation of a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) fabricated on an FR4 substrate. A capillary tube constructed from polypropylene is inserted into the region of the CSRR microwave sensor exhibiting the maximum density surface current, wherein the liquid under test (LUT) is contained. The sensor was designed to operate at a resonance frequency of 2.45 GHz in the absence of a load. The maximum displacement observed at the resonance frequency is 275 MHz, with a normalization sensitivity of 0.844%. The simulations and experimental measurements are verified and their results compared, yielding a high level of concordance for the sensor’s intended purpose. The discrepancy between the measured permittivity values and the reference values of the samples under analysis is less than 5%. The proposed sensor is an effective solution for characterizing liquids, particularly mixtures of water and glucose, when compared to other sensors available for this application. © 2025 SBMO/SBMag.

Exams are an important component of any educational program, including online education. In any test, there is a possibility of cheating, so its detection and prevention is important. This study aims to conduct an in-depth study of the online exam monitoring model approach based on facial recognition used to detect cheating. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria designed, 13 selected studies were obtained. From these studies, we conducted further analysis regarding the Face Detection Method, Face Recognition Method, Initial Feature, Behavior Analysis and Evaluation Metrics used in each study so as to provide answers to research questions. the most frequently used Face detection method was Viola-Jones with a presentation of 20%, then CNN and MTCNN with a total presentation of 21%. The most widely used face recognition method in selected studies is CNN and metrics Accuracy is one of the most frequently used evaluations with a percentage of 33%. While the features that are usually used to detect cheating during online exams include facial motion and head pose which occupies the first position. The second is eye movement, then multiple faces gaze estimation and facial expression is in third place. Other features that also play a role in analyzing cheating behavior are mouth detection, facial vector, landmark location, gesture and posture.

Human-robot teaming has become increasingly important with the advent of intelligent machines. Prior efforts suggest that performance, mental workload, and trust are critical elements of human-robot dynamics that can be altered by the robot’s behavior. Most prior human-robot teaming studies used behavioral analyses, but a limited number used neural markers, without the use of physical robots and complex tasks. Here we combine behavioral and EEG cortical dynamics to examine cognitive-motor processes when individuals complete a complex task under various team environments with a robot. The results revealed that altering the robot quality affected both behavioral and EEG dynamics. Task completion with an experienced robot led to greater team performance and human trust along with lower mental workload compared to an inexperienced teammate or when individuals performed alone. EEG changes suggest that different attentional processes were engaged when humans worked with the robot and performed alone, and that visual processing was more prominent when teaming with an inexperienced teammate. This work can inform human cognitive-motor processes and the design of robotic controllers in human-robot teams.

Automatic target recognition (ATR) for 3D synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) imagery is an intrinsic challenge in highly cluttered ocean environments, especially for objects partially or completely buried in the sediment. Conventional dynamic range compression (DRC) techniques such as log-compression, which is a type of tone mapping intended to appeal to the human visual system, can further obscure the sonar signatures of these already physically occluded objects and lead to suboptimal downstream ATR performance, particularly for convolutional neural networks (CNNs). In this paper, we present a novel machine learning-based approach for tone mapping sub-bottom SAS imagery as a pre-processing stage in the 3D SAS ATR pipeline. This learned tone mapping function can be jointly optimized with a CNN-based ATR algorithm. We train and validate our method on measured volumetric SAS data captured by the Sediment Volume Search Sonar (SVSS) system.

This article conducts a comprehensive examination of brand-based equity closely linked to environmental sustainability in the Amazon Rainforest. The research is primarily dedicated to identifying the factors that influence consumers’ willingness to purchase products from sustainable brands within six categories: cosmetics, tourism, clothing, accessories, and food. The central aim of this study is to investigate how brand equity constructs, rooted in environmental sustainability within the Amazon Rainforest, impact consumer loyalty and purchase intention. To accomplish this objective, a mixed-methodology approach was employed, combining structural equation modeling with item response theory. This study involved 535 potential consumers, and data from eight selected brands served as the basis for the analysis. Within the framework of Purchase Intention (PI), the following variables were regarded as formative constructs: Strategic Brand Positioning (SBP), Perceived Brand Quality (PBQ), Retail Innovation (RI), and Brand Authenticity (BA). The results obtained from the structural equation models underscore the statistical significance and substantial impact of all pathways. Notably, SBP emerged as the most significant contributor to the effect on PI, as hypothesized. Brand equity and environmental sustainability were found to indirectly affect behavioral PI. Consumers exhibited a high level of latent trait (θ), with items consistently reflecting elevated values, confirming their acceptance of products, except brand differentiation. Overall, the findings highlight the effectiveness of branding strategies rooted in environmental sustainability in enhancing the brand equity of small forest companies. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
