Recently, studies related to human activity recognition have developed which have been applied in various fields. In that field Machine learning and deep learning techniques have been widely used for several classification and prediction tasks. However, the first problem is that there is rarely any research on human activities that reflect the culture of a region, such as greeting gestures. Second, there are few studies that do not provide models resulting from the classification or prediction process using machine learning, which can result in a lack of understanding of how a model from machine learning is generated. This study aims to predict Japanese greeting gestures (eshaku, keirei, saikeirei, waving hand) and Indonesian (placing both hands in front of the chest) using Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM), eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Gradient Boosting. Then, represent the model of the learning machine using SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) to find out how the learning machine obtain a model. Our findings show the efficacy of this method and show that the model not only predicts greeting gestures with high accuracy but also offers a transparent understanding of the factors influencing its predictions, thus enhancing the interpretability and applicability of machine learning in recognizing culturally significant human activities. In the future, we plan to use machine learning and other Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) methods to study human activities with cultural concepts such as greeting gestures in different styles, create more greeting gesture-based human activity datasets, and examine the ethical implications or considerations of using machine learning in cultural contexts to respect cultural differences.

The field of Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is growing significantly in several areas but little research focuses on cultural behavior. How machine learning can explain human activity as a promotional tool in understanding cultural differences in a region is very challenging. Studies using Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), especially Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), require large data when used to research human activity recognition. Using small data is a challenge when using LSTM. This study aims to determine which data augmentation is most appropriate when used using LSTM to predict Japanese greeting gestures, namely eshaku, keirei, saikeirei, waving hands, and Indonesian greeting gestures, namely the movement of bringing both hands together in front of the chest with a slight bow of the head. This study proposes to compare several data augmentations, namely jittering, scaling, permutation, cropping, reverse, time shifting, frequency domain, and synthetic data generation. We evaluate model performance using the Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and coefficient of determination (R 2 ) metrics. The experimental results show that Time Shifting has the best MSE, RMSE, and MAE values compared to others and Frequency Domain has the best R 2 values compared to others. This study concludes that Time Shifting and Frequency Domain are the best data augmentation methods when using LSTM in predicting greeting gestures using small data. These findings provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of various data augmentation methods in motion prediction tasks with limited data sets, as well as the importance of selecting appropriate data augmentation methods in human motion analysis. Future work could use data from two or more people using model explanations generated by machine learning and developing a new method for cultural behavior.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)provide a reliable and energyefficient solution for data collection from the Narrowband Internet of Things(NB-IoT)***,the UAV’s deployment optimization,including locations of the UAV’s stop points,is a necessity to minimize the energy consumption of the UAV and the NB-IoT devices and also to conduct the data collection *** this regard,this paper proposes GainingSharing Knowledge(GSK)algorithm for optimizing the UAV’s *** GSK,the number of UAV’s stop points in the three-dimensional space is encapsulated into a single individual with a fixed length representing an entire *** superiority of using GSK in the tackled problem is verified by simulation in seven *** provides significant results in all seven scenarios compared with other four optimization algorithms used before with the same ***,the NB-IoT is proposed as the wireless communication technology between the UAV and IoT devices.

Many data-driven patient risk stratification models have not been evaluated prospectively. We performed and compared the prospective and retrospective evaluations of 2 Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) risk-prediction models at 2 large academic health centers, and we discuss the models’ robustness to data-set shifts.

The existence of fine-grained image classification supporting smart retail provides effectiveness in recognizing products with high similarity. However, the generic classification method performs poorly in identifying products from a subordinate category. This paper aims to identify augmentation techniques to leverage the Vision Transformer (ViT) model to classify the fine-grained grocery product, which involves embedding patches and transformer encoders to extract the main features. First, we develop a fine-grained image dataset with ColorJitter, CutOut, and combining both augmentations. Secondly, we perform experiments and analysis of ViT size, embedded patch size and image size in the patch embedding process. Lastly, the ViT model are evaluated according to the image sizes 224, 384, and 512 in accuracy, loss, and confusion matrix. The highest accuracy was obtained at 0.9922. The ColorJitter and CutOut improved the confusion matrix in ViT-B/16 and ViT-L/16 with an image size of 384 and 512. The results show that both augmentations in the ViT model are able to distinguish fine-grained grocery products.

Image inpainting is an important task in computer vision. As admirable methods are presented, the inpainted image is getting closer to reality. However, the result is still not good enough in the reconstructed texture and structure based on human vision. Although recent advances in computer hardware have enabled the development of larger and more complex models, there is still a need for lightweight models that can be used by individuals and small-sized institutions. Therefore, we propose a lightweight model that combines a specialized transformer with a traditional convolutional neural network (CNN). Furthermore, we have noticed most researchers only consider three primary colors (RGB) in inpainted images, but we think this is not enough. So we propose a new loss function to intensify color details. Extensive experiments on commonly seen datasets (Places2 and CelebA) validate the efficacy of our proposed model compared with other state-of-the-art methods. Image restoration is a challenging and ill-posed problem which also has been a long-standing issue. In this paper, we proposed a multi-branch restoration model inspired from the Human Visual System (i.e., Retinal Ganglion Cells) for image deraindrop. The experiments show that the proposed multi-branch architecture, called CMFNet, has state-of-the-art performance results. Voice synthesizers still present several challenges in the speech of mathematical content, as spoken mathematics has quite peculiar rules. In the synthesized speech, pauses help blind and visually impaired students identify the limits of mathematical operators and subexpressions. However, most studies on pauses define them uniformly or use simple punctuation marks to force the synthesizer to introduce pauses in certain parts of the expression. Speech is a dynamic process and pauses in expressions also need to be dynamic to make the synthetic speech of expressions more natural, as this can help in memorizing this type of content. This work proposed a dynamic model of pauses for mathematical expressions. Collected math expressions spoken by teachers were used to create the model. These expressions were useful for identifying patterns and creating a linear regression model. Blind and visually impaired students evaluated the model. Some improvements were observed when we compared the synthesized mathematical expressions with the model and Audiomath, the parameter tool used in this study. © 2022 ACM.

Aircraft avionics systems are complicated systems which involves high number of components and complex cable assembly procedure. To deal with this challenge, Augmented Reality (AR) has been proposed to be an effective method to improve assembly efficiency and to reduce error rates. In this paper, the authors developed AR-based guidance cable assembly and compare the impact of different modes of AR information. The results show that although AR outperformed the paper document assembly guidance, the design of AR information has distinct influence on the successful completion of the cables assembly process. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
