Existing studies on ultraviolet (UV) non-line-of-sight (NLoS) channel modeling primarily focus on scenarios without any obstacle, which makes them unsuitable for small transceiver elevation angles in most cases. To address this issue, a UV NLoS channel model incorporating an obstacle was investigated in this paper, where the impacts of atmospheric scattering and obstacle reflection on UV signals were both taken into account. To validate the proposed model, we compared it to the related Monte-Carlo photon-tracing (MCPT) model that had been verified by outdoor experiments. Numerical results manifest that the path loss curves obtained by the proposed model agree well with those determined by the MCPT model, while its computation complexity is lower than that of the MCPT model. This work discloses that obstacle reflection can effectively reduce the channel path loss of UV NLoS communication systems. © 2024 IEEE.

This research aims to construct a two-dimensional image to represent an underwater geometry map with a Side Scan Sonar (SSS) mounted on a Hybrid Autonomous Underwater Glider (HAUG). Building the underwater map has two stages of the process. The first stage is preprocessing which includes Time-varying gains (TVG), slant range correction, and ground range correction. The second is HAUG navigation, the movement of HAUG orientation to the angle and distance of SSS readings and plotting the geometry of the grid map. With these two stages, a two-dimensional grid map will be formed. Meanwhile, the 3D plot utilizes slant range and ground range correction to obtain the surface height of the bottom of the pool. From the experiments conducted to conduct mapping in the pool, two-dimensional and three-dimensional visual forms of the pool floor and pool walls were produced. The results of the estimated measurement of the width of the pool obtained 14.05 meters and the height of the pool 3.199 meters with an SSS beam angle of 58 degrees.

This study is related to a system that enables elderly people to communicate interactively with young people who use existing message exchange services by simply speaking to an avatar on a tablet PC, without having to perform complicated operations of the tablet PC. On the other hand, the young people side can bring in elderly people who could not previously participate in existing message exchange services groups. The effectiveness of the system was verified through demonstration experiments with two households consisting of elderly people in their 80s.

Electrodermal activity (EDA) is a general term for all electrical phenomena occurring on the skin, both passive and active. EDA measurements are used by researchers to measure levels of stress, emotion, mental strain, and so on. Measuring human stress levels, emotions, and mental strain are generally associated with the skin conductance response. The function GSR sensor is not only used to read people’s psychology but also can be used as a pain sensor used to read the degree of pain in the skin. This pilot study uses sample data from ***. The *** data is galvanic skin response sensor data. The output of this sensor is the conductivity value that occurs in the skin. The data obtained from *** will be extracted using the mean, standard deviation, maximum, minimum, RMS, skewness, and peak-to-peak characteristics. The extracted functions are selected using the forward selection method. The results of the feature selection are three features with an accuracy percentage greater than 50%, namely the mean feature, the RMS feature, and the skewness feature. The machine learning models used are bagged tree, SVM, and K-NN models. Of the three models used, the bagged tree model has the highest accuracy rate, at 98.05%, with an F1 score is 0.9807. The KNN model with k=10 has the lowest level of accuracy compared to other models, at 96.75%.

A Millimeter-Wave Scattering Channel Model for Indoor Human Activity Sensing

In sixth-generation (6G) application scenarios like industry 5.0, augmented reality (AR), autonomous transportation, and eHealth, there is a growing demand for Human Activity Recognition (HAR). Meanwhile, with the deployment of millimeter-wave (mmWave) technologies in fifth-generation (5G) cellular communications, higher-resolution sensing becomes feasible. Utilizing mmWave for communication and HAR has garnered attention, necessitating accurate modeling of sensing channels. This paper proposes a mmWave scattering channel model for indoor HAR, which facilitates system design, optimization, and implementation. In the proposed model, we integrate primitive-based human body scattering where the human body is indicated by a set of primitives, and cluster-based environment scattering models, enabling detailed modeling of self-shadowing and double-bounce environment scattering. Additionally, we develop a simulation framework encompassing signal transmission, sensing channels, and processing, allowing adjustment of system parameters. Simulation results indicated by micro-Doppler signatures including multi-link effects show good agreements with measurements, validating the effectiveness of the proposed model. Meanwhile, the time consumption of the proposed simulation workflow for generating micro-Doppler signatures for most human activities is within 10 minutes. © 2020 IEEE.

A sugarcane yield of one plantation area depends on several independent variables. Practically it is challenging to predict accurately by using conventional methods. This study aims to develop a decision model based on a combination of fuzzy logic and object-oriented methods to predict sugarcane yield. The research is conducted in four main stages, employing object-oriented methods for model design and fuzzy logic for model construction. Object and activity diagrams are used for the object-oriented model design. The fuzzy membership functions employed are a combination of trapezoidal and triangular shapes. The resulting decision model can simulate 2,225 data from plantation areas in Indonesia. Based on the 10 examples of plantation area data in Indonesia, plantation number one obtained the largest sugarcane yield, which was 4.79%, with a similarity value of 0.90 (when compared to manual calculations as its ground truth). This similarity value is a higher value when compared to the average similarity value, which is 0.89. © 2024 IEEE.

Holographic multiple-input-multiple output (HMIMO), which is enabled by large-scale antenna arrays with quasi-continuous apertures, is expected to be an important technology in the forthcoming 6G wireless network. Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-based antennas provide an energy-efficient solution for implementing HMIMO. Most existing works in this area focus on single-polarized RIS-enabled HMIMO, where the RIS can only reflect signals in one polarization towards users and signals in the other polarization cannot be received by intended users, leading to degraded data rate. To improve multiplexing performance, in this paper, we consider a dual-polarized RIS-enabled single-user HMIMO network, aiming to optimize power allocations across polarizations and analyze corresponding maximum system capacity. However, due to interference between different polarizations, the dual-polarized system cannot be simply decomposed into two independent single-polarized ones. Therefore, existing methods developed for the single-polarized system cannot be directly applied, which makes the optimization and analysis of the dual-polarized system challenging. To cope with this issue, we derive an asymptotically tight upper bound on the ergodic capacity, based on which the power allocations across two polarizations are optimized. Cybersecurity threats are growing, making network intrusion detection essential. Traditional machine learning models remain effective in resource-limited environments due to their efficiency, requiring fewer parameters and less computational time. However, handling short and highly imbalanced datasets remains challenging. In this study, we propose the fusion of Contrastive Attentive Graph Network and Graph Attention Network (CAGN-GAT Fusion), and benchmark it against 15 other models, including both Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and traditional ML models. Our evaluation is conducted on four benchmark datasets (KDD-CUP-1999, NSL-KDD, UNSW-NB15, and CICIDS2017) using a short and proportionally imbalanced dataset with a constant size of 5000 samples to ensure fairness in comparison. Results show that CAGN-GAT Fusion demonstrates stable and competitive accuracy, recall, and F1-score, even though it does not achieve the highest performance in every dataset. Our analysis also highlights the impact of adaptive graph construction techniques, including small changes in connections (edge perturbation) and selective hiding of features (feature masking), improving detection performance. The findings confirm that GNNs, particularly CAGN-GAT Fusion, are robust and computationally efficient, making them well-suited for resource-constrained environments. Future work will explore GraphSAGE layers and multiview graph construction techniques to further enhance adaptability and detection accuracy. © 2025, CC BY.

Conventional boost converters operating with hard-switching result in low conversion efficiency and increased electromagnetic interference emissions. In this paper, a cost-efficient passive snubber is proposed with a few additional components: two diodes, one capacitor, and one inductor. Moreover, because these snubber components are not located on the main power processing path, they only require low ratings, resulting in improved cost-effectiveness.
