Recently, the task of contactless physiological signal monitoring based on deep learning technologies has attracted a large number of scholars. However, few studies focus on the application of real-world scenarios, especially in clinical medicine scenes. In this paper, a novel video-based contactless respiratory rate measurement algorithm is developed for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients. Firstly, a large-scale clinical real-world database towards ICU patient is collected in this study. Then, based on the dataset, the unsupervised learning is first introduced to extract the respiration waveform from the chest area of patients. Lastly, a respiratory rate estimator based on neural networks is proposed and trained on a periodical physiological signal simulation dataset, and utilizes the transfer learning technique to extract the respiratory rate from only 10-second respiration waveform. We obtained estimated respiratory rate with an MAE of 2.8 breaths/min and an STD of 3.0 breaths/min against the reference value computed from the specialized medical device. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed methods achieve competitive results over state-of-the-art (SOTA) method in the real-world scenario. © 2023 IEEE.

Wireless capsule endoscopes capture and transmit images of the human digestive system for use in medical diagnostics. The placement of the capsule makes it possible to pinpoint the illnesses. In this work, we propose an ultra-miniaturized antenna that can operate in the 2.4 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band for integration with a capsule. Minia-turization is achieved using the meander resonator technique, high permittivity substrate, and superstrate. The antenna is designed using Rogers RT/duroid 6010 substrate with a footprint of 2.8 × 2.8 × 0.5 mm 3 . A basic mathematical equation calculates the meander resonator's initial length for the required frequency. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed design provides the best performance, the smallest footprint, and a maximum peak gain of -28.6 dBi. Along with the antenna design, a 3D-printed capsule with dummy circuitry is used. The antenna's simulated bandwidth is 210 MHz. Good impedance matching is maintained along the whole digestive tract. The data is analyzed using stomach, small intestine, and colon models. With a link margin of 20 dB, the suggested antenna can send data at a speed of 1 Mbps across a two-meter distance in the whole digestive tract. To the best of our knowledge, this is the smallest endoscopic antenna listed for 2.45 GHz ISM bands in the literature. Based on the acquired results, the proposed design is a good candidate for the target medical applications.

Machine learning algorithms are fundamentally driven by the data provided by humans;consequently, the decisions made by those algorithms are not free from human bias. This is particularly evident in the case of facial analysis systems that employ machine learning algorithms. Recent studies have shown that the decisions made by many of the commercially available facial analysis systems are prejudiced against certain groups of race, ethnicity, age, gender and culture. Further studies have identified that the underlying reason for such biased decisions is that the open source material available for facial image databases which are used in commerce and academia to train the algorithms has meager diversity in these categories. To compound this issue, facial analysis technology is promoted by influential companies and artificial intelligence service providers without affirming the fairness and accuracy of the decisions given by these systems. To minimize bias and ensure representation of the Middle Eastern population in the imminent growth of this technology, we propose the development of two Arab face databases along with an algorithmic audit involving seven commercially available facial analysis systems. Of the databases, the first, Arab-LEANA, will include 300 Arab subjects' face images with variation in lighting, expression, accessory, nationality and age (LEANA). The second, Arab Public Figures Faces (APFF), will contain images and videos of 300 Arab public figures captured "in the wild". Faces for APFF will be selected manually from the internet since manual selection of faces will result in a high degree of variability in scale, pose, expression, illumination, age, occlusion and make-up. These databases will provide the worldwide community of face recognition researchers with a large-scale, diverse collection of Arab face images for training and evaluating algorithms toward developing a more representative, and therefore more robust, capacity for facial analysis. The advancement of modern multimedia and data-intensive classes of applications demands the development of hardware that delivers better performance. Due to the evolution of 5G, Edge-Computing, the Internet of Things, Software-Defined networks, etc., the data produced by the devices such as sensors are increasing. A software-Defined network is a powerful paradigm that is capable of automating networking and cloud computing. Software-Defined Network has controllers, devices, and applications which produce a huge amount of data. The processing of data inside the device as well as between the devices needs a better hardware architecture with more cores to ensure speedy performance. The System-on-Chip approach alone will not be capable to handle this dense core comprised of hardware. We have to blend Network-on-Chip along with System-on-Chip to increase the potential to include more cores capable to handle more threads. Artificial Intelligence, a key enabler in next-generation devices is capable of producing a better architecture design with optimized performance. In this paper, we are discussing and endeavouring how System-on-Chip, Network-on-Chip, Software-Defined Networks, and Artificial Intelligence can be physically, logically, and contextually incorporated to deliver improved computation and networking outcomes. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper considers video and audio transmission in ICN (Information-Centric Networking) CCN (Content- Centric Networking), in which each intermediate node can cache content. LCE (Leave Copy Everywhere) has been known as a generic cache decision policy. However, because LCE caches at all the intermediate nodes, the cache of intermediate nodes can be duplicated. Therefore, various cache decision policies that eliminate redundancy have been proposed. In this paper, we evaluate the effect of the cache decision policies on QoE of video and audio transmission in ICN/CCN. We assess application-level QoS using a computer simulation with a tree network and QoE by means of subjective experiment.

DRL has emerged as a promising approach for mobile robot navigation in unknown environments without a prior map. However, the performance of DRL methods for this task varies greatly, depending on the choice of algorithm, state representation, and training procedure. In this paper we explore various cutting-edge DRL algorithms, such as policy-, value-, and actor-critic-based approaches. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of the ranging sensor approach, which achieves robust navigation policies capable of generalizing to unseen virtual environments with a high success rate. We combine Behavior Cloning with Imitation Learning to expedite the training process, leveraging expert demonstrations and reinforcement learning. Our methodology enables faster training while enhancing the learning efficiency and performance of the robot, obtaining better results in terms of crash and success rate, and being able to reach a cumulative reward of approximately 12000.

Wireless communication via unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has drawn a great deal of attention due to its flexibility in establishing line-of-sight (LoS) communications. However, in complex urban and dynamic environments, the movement of UAVs can be blocked by trees and high-rise buildings that obstruct directional paths. This problem can be effectively addressed by employing reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). To achieve this goal, accurate channel estimation in RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications is crucial. This paper proposes an accurate channel estimation model using long short-term memory (LSTM) for a multi-user RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications system. Simulation results showed that LSTM can effectively improve the channel estimation performance of RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications.
