Reservoir computing (RC) offers a neuromorphic framework that is particularly effective for processing spatiotemporal signals. Known for its temporal processing prowess, RC significantly lowers training costs compared to conventional recurrent neural networks. A key component in its hardware deployment is the ability to generate dynamic reservoir states. Our research introduces a novel dual-memory RC system, integrating a short-term memory via a WOx-based memristor, capable of achieving 16 distinct states encoded over 4 bits, and a long-term memory component using a TiOx-based memristor within the readout layer. We thoroughly examine both memristor types and leverage the RC system to process temporal data sets. The performance of the proposed RC system is validated through two benchmark tasks: isolated spoken digit recognition and with only a fraction of complete samples forecasting the Mackey-Glass (MG) time series prediction. The system delivered an impressive 98.84% accuracy in speech digit recognition and sustained a low normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) of 0.036 in the time series prediction task, underscoring its capability. This study illuminates the adeptness of memristor-based RC systems in managing intricate temporal challenges, laying the groundwork for further innovations in neuromorphic computing. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Image inpainting is an important task in computer vision. As admirable methods are presented, the inpainted image is getting closer to reality. However, the result is still not good enough in the reconstructed texture and structure based on human vision. Although recent advances in computer hardware have enabled the development of larger and more complex models, there is still a need for lightweight models that can be used by individuals and small-sized institutions. Therefore, we propose a lightweight model that combines a specialized transformer with a traditional convolutional neural network (CNN). Furthermore, we have noticed most researchers only consider three primary colors (RGB) in inpainted images, but we think this is not enough. So we propose a new loss function to intensify color details. Extensive experiments on commonly seen datasets (Places2 and CelebA) validate the efficacy of our proposed model compared with other state-of-the-art methods. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

Domain data can be shifted in any direction so it will be shared in different distributions to its original domain. This could be a problem since the model was trained with different distributions. It is found that adversarial domain adaptation using domain adversarial neural networks (DANN) can help to solve this problem on some scale. DANN can minimize the discrepancy between source and target data so the model can work well in both domains. The experiment is done by utilizing MNIST dataset that shifted into some conditions. In a condition when the shifting of distribution is too far, DANN is struggling to maintain the knowledge extracted from source data which leads to underperformance in the source and target domain. In contrast, when the shifting is closer, DANN can easily fit the model so it can perform well in both domains. It proves DANN is one of the good approaches to performing domain adaptation in small discrepancies.

This article proposes a new multi-level inverter (MLI) based on flying capacitor inverter (FCI), with focused on high-precision positioning control for a voice coil motor (VCM). Multi-level inverters (MLIs) have the characteristic that increasing the number of output voltage levels reduces the output voltage error. However, as the number of levels increases, the number of circuit elements increases, and the circuit becomes more complex. In addition, the output voltage amplitude for each level is constant in conventional inverters. As a result, such as high-precision positioning control of VCM, designing an appropriate inverter for a reference wave that contains a large amount of low-voltage components increases the number of circuit elements. Therefore, this paper proposes a MLI with two unbalanced dc-input voltages, referred to as unbalanced MLIs (UMLIs) hereinafter. This topology uses two different dc-input voltages, and it is possible to reduce the output voltage level in extremely low-voltage range compared to other voltage levels. Simulation results when the high-precision positioning control of the VCM confirm that the proposed UMLIs improves the control performance compared to the conventional FCIs with equal number of output voltage levels and uniform level widths.

A composite strain-modulation strategy to achieve high-performing green µ-LED devices for visible light communication is proposed. Compared with the conventional pre-well structure, introducing a pre-layer to enlarge the lateral lattice constant of the underlayer decreased the strain in the overall strain-modulated layer and MQW. This improved the crystal quality and suppressed the quantum confinement Stark effect. Using this modulation strategy, the green µ-LED array with the compound pre-strained structure exhibited a light output power of 20.5 mW and modulation bandwidth of 366 MHz, corresponding to improvements of 61% and 78%, respectively, compared with those of µ-LEDs with a pre-well structure. © 2024 Optica Publishing Group © 2024 Optica Publishing Group (formerly OSA). Efforts to map atomic-scale chemistry at low doses with minimal noise using electron microscopes are fundamentally limited by inelastic ***,fused multi-modal electron microscopy offers high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)recovery of material chemistry at nano-and atomic-resolution by coupling correlated information encoded within both elastic scattering(high-angle annular dark-field(HAADF))and inelastic spectroscopic signals(electron energy loss(EELS)or energy-dispersive x-ray(EDX)).By linking these simultaneously acquired signals,or modalities,the chemical distribution within nanomaterials can be imaged at significantly lower doses with existing detector *** many cases,the dose requirements can be reduced by over one order of *** high SNR recovery of chemistry is tested against simulated and experimental atomic resolution data of heterogeneous nanomaterials.

Enhanced-SETL: A multi-variable deep reinforcement learning approach for contention window optimization in dense Wi-Fi networks

In this paper, we introduce the Enhanced Smart Exponential-Threshold-Linear (Enhanced-SETL) algorithm, a new approach that uses the multi-variable Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) framework to simultaneously optimize multiple settings of the Contention Window (CW) in IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. Unlike traditional DRL methods that adjust only a single CW parameter, our innovative approach simultaneously optimizes both the CW minimum (CWmin) and CW Threshold (CWThreshold), significantly improving network traffic control. We utilize a Double Deep Q-learning Network (DDQN) for dynamic updates of these CW settings, broadcasted across the dense Wi-Fi networks. This dual adjustment method, coupled with dynamic, data-driven updates, not only enhances throughput, but also reduces collision rates, and ensures fairness access across both static and dynamic wireless environments. Enhanced-SETL achieves a throughput improvement ranging from 3.55% up to 43.73% and from 3.98% up to 30.15% in static and dynamic scenarios over standard protocols and state-of-the-art DRL models, while maintaining a fairness index near 99% across diverse stations, showcasing its effectiveness and adaptability in various network conditions. © 2024

Due to the disparity in the levels of difficulty presented by the several tasks, doing domain adaptation in an adversarial way may result in an imbalanced learning process. In the MNIST dataset, this phenomenon also manifests itself in the form of domain adaptation for color-shifted distribution. In this particular situation, the domain classifier has a higher tendency to fit more quickly, but the category classifier fits quite poorly in the learning process. In order to address this problem, a new hyper-parameter has been added to the loss function in order to strike a compromise between the learning speed of the domain and the categorical classifier. By using this technique, the categorical classifier may better match the data while still maintaining the same level of performance as the domain classifier. In order to determine whether or not making use of this hyper-parameter is useful, the phenomena in question is examined using three distinct color-shifted settings. Following the evaluations, it was discovered that the newly introduced hyper-parameter is capable of coping with imbalanced learning while simultaneously engaging in domain adaptation.

The voice patterns of gender and age have been used as speaker's identity and implied into sectors such as smart cards, healthcare, banking, and other security access controls. However, age, illness, and ambient noise factors exist challenging issues of voice changes in speech recognition systems to be resolved. This paper presents experiment results of observing those issues, and its goal was obtaining the elements of voice features to secure the speaker's identity. Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) was used to conduct observations on spectral centroid and bandwidth, it has effectively performed capturing features of individual speech signal. The experiment was conducted with data split into three groups: under 13, range 13 to 19, and above 19 years old for both male and female. The results showed that both gender under 13 have centroid voices reached to 98%, age of 13 to 19 remain with centroid reached 98% of bandwidth for male and passing over 100% for female, then above 19 for both genders speak lower with centroid 50% of bandwidth, and male above age of 19 remains to keep centroid about 50% and female changes to 95%. MFCC fits to expose the speech spectrum for the purpose of an analysis frame on specific local spectral properties of voices, and the finding is to form a security line or an individual profiling adoption.

With global EV sales projected to reach 3.5 million units by 2023 and public charging stations increasing by 40%, effective management and optimization of charging infrastructure have become critical. While current research primarily focuses on models that address either users or charging stations, these approaches often overlook external factors such as weather and traffic conditions, which significantly impact driving patterns and energy consumption. The integration of these external variables into forecasting models is thus critical for enhancing prediction accuracy and infrastructure optimization. In this study, we conducted an in-depth analysis of EV charging patterns at highway rest areas. This study employed deep learning models, GRU, and LSTM architectures, trained using various data combinations. The experiments revealed that the inclusion of traffic data notably improves forecasting precision. In particular, the LSTM model demonstrated a 10.5% reduction in mean absolute percentage error(MAPE), decreasing the standard deviation from 4.95 to 3.87 when external factors were included.
