Intelligent identification of landslides in loess areas based on the improved YOLO algorithm:a case study of loess landslides in Baoji City

Loess landslides are one of the geological hazards prevalent in mountainous areas of Loess Plateau,seriously threatening people's lives and property *** identification of landslides is a prerequisite for reducing the risk of landslide *** landslide interpretation methods often have the disadvantage of being laborious and difficult to use on a large scale compared with the recently developed deep learning-based landslide detection *** this study,we propose an improved deep learning model,landslide detectionyou only look once(LD-YOLO),based on the existing you only look once(YOLO)model for the intelligent identification of old and new landslides in loess ***,remote sensing images of landslides in Baoji City,Shaanxi Province,China are acquired from the Google Earth Engine *** landslide images of Baoji City(excluding Qianyang County)are used to establish a loess landslide dataset for training the *** landslide data of Qianyang County is used to verify the detection performance of the *** focal and efficient IoU(Focal-EIoU)loss function and efficient channel attention(ECA)mechanism are incorporated into the 7th version of YOLO(YOLOv7)model to construct the LD-YOLO model,which makes it more suitable for the landslide detection *** experiments yielded an improved LD-YOLO model with average precision of 92.05%,precision of 92.31%,recall of 90.28%,and F1-score of 91.28%for loess landslide *** landslides in Qianyang County were divided into two test sets,new landslides and old landslides,which were used to test the detection performance of LD-YOLO for both types of *** results show that LD-YOLO detects old landslides with a detection precision of 82.75%and a recall of 80%.When detecting new landslides,the detection precision is 94.29%and the recall is 91.67%.It indicates that our proposed LD-YOLO model has strong detection performance for both new and old landslides in loess areas

The state of health(SOH)is a critical factor in evaluating the performance of the lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).Due to various end-user behaviors,the LIBs exhibit different degradation modes,which makes it challenging to estimate the SOHs in a personalized *** this article,we present a novel particle swarm optimization-assisted deep domain adaptation(PSO-DDA)method to estimate the SOH of LIBs in a personalized manner,where a new domain adaptation strategy is put forward to reduce cross-domain distribution *** standard PSO algorithm is exploited to automatically adjust the chosen hyperparameters of developed DDA-based *** proposed PSODDA method is validated by extensive experiments on two LIB datasets with different battery chemistry materials,ambient temperatures and charge-discharge *** results indicate that the proposed PSO-DDA method surpasses the convolutional neural network-based method and the standard DDA-based *** Py Torch implementation of the proposed PSO-DDA method is available at https://***/mxt0607/PSO-DDA.

Change of electrical and Transport Properties of Nickel Oxide by Carrier Concentration and Temperature through First‑Principle Calculations

Nickel is typically used as one of the main components in electrical contact devices or *** oxide(NiO)is usually formed on the surfaces of electrodes and can negatively impact system performance by introducing electrical contact *** thermal,electrical,and transport properties of NiO,as a Mott insulator or a p-type semiconductor,can be altered by operating and environmental conditions such as temperature and stress/strain by *** this study,we inves-tigate the fundamental material properties of NiO through the first-principle ***,we obtain and compare the lattice parameter,magnetic moment,and electronic structure for NiO via the WIEN2K simulations with four different poten-tials(i.e.,GGA,GGA+U,LSDA,and LSDA+U).Then,using the WIEN2K simulation results with LSDA+U potential that produces a highly accurate bandgap for NiO,we calculate the electrical conductivity and electrical part of the thermal conductivity of nickel and NiO as a function of temperature and carrier concentration through the BoltzTraP *** simulation results revealed that the electrical conductivity relative to the relaxation time for NiO increases with the carrier concentration,while it shows a slightly decreasing trend with temperature under a fixed carrier *** contrast,the electrical part of the thermal conductivity shows an increasing trend considering carrier concentration and temperature.

Axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machines have technological competitiveness for electric propulsion systems that require compact structures and high-power density. However, challenging design and manufacturing problems that reduce the cost competitiveness cause designers to limit designable variables. In this paper, the effects of slot/pole combination, semi-closed slot, magnetic wedge, and segmented PM on performance in double-sided rotor and double-sided stator geometries designed with stator open slots were investigated through 3-D finite element analysis (FEA). FEA results show that the design variables have a significant impact on torque, torque ripple, and losses. Semi-closed slots or magnetic wedges reduce PM losses for each open slot model by more than 80%, significantly reducing losses compared to segmented PMs, and also reducing torque ripple. As an alternative to stator design modification, results indicate the open slot model can be considered with a slot/pole combination for low cogging torque to reduce torque ripple and segmented PMs to reduce PM losses. © 2024 IEEE.

Simulations of terahertz signals in the time or frequency domain focus on the photoconductive antenna (PCA). However, they lack a simpler and more accurate simulation technology for PCA, which plays a crucial role in designing and optimizing detectors. Such work is essential in terahertz imaging and time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). This work simulates an incident terahertz wave by introducing a three-dimensional (3-D) finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation in the form of a total field to scattering field. This wave is pretreated as a plane wave that is incident on the receiver. The equation of carrier dynamics with semiconductor charge and transport is solved by using the 3-D full-wave FDTD method. A center surface current method is used to calculate the time-varying conductivity. A sampling electric field was used to evaluate the photocurrent. They were obtained by convolving the main time-varying photoconductivity of the photoexcited carrier distribution on the cross-section in the middle of the gap of a PCA receiver. Then, we compare these simulations with previously reported data from an incident terahertz signal. In addition, we simulated the detection characteristics with other results in the literature. Our simulation tool can accurately reproduce these data sets. These simulations can be used to design and optimize the receiving performance of different PCAs structures before costly fabrication has commenced. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Permanent magnets (PM) demagnetization occurs when applying external fields opposite the PM's polarity. To a certain degree, this effect is reversible and useful in high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) by enabling flux weakening control and reluctance torque. However, relatively large external fields cause irreversible demagnetization, damaging the magnet and, thus, the motor. In PMSMs, irreversible demagnetization can significantly limit torque density, especially when using rare earth (RE) free PMs with low coercivity. Irreversible demagnetization risk can be controlled in motor designs to increase torque density if the motor drive is designed appropriately, but the impact of this relationship has yet to be quantified statistically. Therefore, this paper does so by designing and comparing PMSMs with varying demagnetization risk and comparing their performance in terms of torque density and short circuit current. The motor designs presented here are based on the specifications for the 2011 Nissan Leaf, and electric vehicles (EVs) contribute significantly to RE PM demand by typically using interior permanent magnet motors (IPMSMs) with RE PMs. Therefore, the authors also assess demagnetization risk during EV drive cycles for the MnBi motor designs presented here. Because demagnetization effects are particularly limiting in permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance motors (PMASynRM) that use MnBi PMs, this paper focuses on various MnBi PMASynRM designs and compare them to a MnBi IPMSM design previously published by the authors. © 2024 IEEE.

An ongoing problem in robotics is the calculation of body motion given motion in the visual field, also known as ego-motion estimation. This is a problem which has been solved in the visual system of most animals, including the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. Here we present FlyWheel, an open-source robotic platform for studying models of the visual motion-processing system in insects. We showcase a dataset of rotational motion data in real-world conditions using the robot, and use a simplified model of the motion pathway in Drosophila as a baseline for further comparison and development. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Stress Detection using Context-Aware Sensor Fusion from Wearable Devices

Wearable medical technology has become increasingly popular in recent years. One function of wearable health devices is stress detection, which relies on sensor inputs to determine a patient’s mental state. This continuous, real-time monitoring can provide healthcare professionals with vital physiological data and enhance the quality of patient care. Current methods of stress detection lack: (i) robustness—wearable health sensors contain high levels of measurement noise that degrades performance, and (ii) adaptation—static architectures fail to adapt to changing contexts in sensing conditions. We propose to address these deficiencies with SELF-CARE, a generalized selective sensor fusion method of stress detection that employs novel techniques of context identification and ensemble machine learning. SELF-CARE uses a learning-based classifier to process sensor features and model the environmental variations in sensing conditions known as the noise context. SELF-CARE uses noise context to selectively fuse different sensor combinations across an ensemble of models to perform robust stress classification. Our findings suggest that for wrist-worn devices, sensors that measure motion are most suitable to understand noise context, while for chest-worn devices, the most suitable sensors are those that detect muscle contraction. We demonstrate SELF-CARE’s state-of-the-art performance on the WESAD dataset. Using wrist-based sensors, SELF-CARE achieves 86.34% and 94.12% accuracy for the 3-class and 2-class stress classification problems, respectively. For chest-based wearable sensors, SELF-CARE achieves 86.19% (3-class) and 93.68% (2-class) classification accuracy. This work demonstrates the benefits of utilizing selective, context-aware sensor fusion in mobile health sensing that can be applied broadly to Internet of Things applications.
