Design and Dynamic Analysis of a Bio-Inspired Rolling Joint Manipulator Based on Pulley-Cable System

Cable-driven joints have gained widespread use in various applications, yet the inherent limitations in cable stiffness and strength pose challenges in ensuring joint stability and operational safety. Enhancing joint stiffness and predicting cable tension changes during motion are essential to mitigate the risk of cable breakage. This article presents the design of a novel bio-inspired rolling joint manipulator, featuring a single-motor-driven pulley transmission system with symmetrical tension amplification. A novel cable winding drive mechanism with integrated tension detection is proposed. The tension distribution across the pulley system is analyzed via the classic Euler equation. A comprehensive system model is established, spanning from the motor-driven winch, through the guide pulleys, to the load-bearing tension amplification pulley. By incorporating the derived tension distribution into the kinematic and dynamic equations of the joint, the model accurately predicts how cable tension evolves during joint movement. The theoretical formulations and tension distribution are validated through both software simulations and prototype experiments, demonstrating high consistency. The results confirm that the dynamic model proposed in this article is more accurate and comprehensive, considering friction and tension transmission.

The effect of Ta content on the microstructures, precipitated phases and mechanical properties of novel as-cast titanium alloy Ti-6.5Al-4Sn-5.5Zr-2.7Mo-1.7Nb-3.5W-0.4Si-0.1Y-xTa (x = 0, 1.0, 2.0 wt.%) was systematically studied. The results showed that the microstructure of the as-cast alloys is basket-weave microstructure, mainly composed of α-Ti, β-Ti, Y2O3 and silicides, belonging to α+β type titanium alloy. The addition of Ta element can inhibit the precipitation of Y2O3 at the grain boundary and promote the precipitation of silicides. The orientation relationship between the S1-type silicide and α-Ti matrix of 2.0 wt.% Ta alloy can be identified as (01 1 0)S1 //(01 1 1)α and [2 11 6]S1 //[2 1 1 0]α;the orientation relationship between the S1-type silicide and β-Ti matrix can be identified as (01 1 0)S1 //(01 1)β and [1213]S1 //[100]β;(0110)S1 //(011)β, (2111)S1 //(200)β and [2116]S1 //[011]β. The tensile strength of the as-cast alloys increases with the increase of Ta content, whereas the elongation change is not significant, which is due to the solid solution strengthening of Ta atom and the second phase strengthening of silicides. © 2024 75th World Foundry Congress, WFC 2024. The need for drinking water is very essential in today's world. The government has been adopting a variety of measures to save drinking water and spend it economically. It is everyone's duty to save water and use it sparingly. Water is wasted due to breakage of the water pipe, excessive use of water, measurement in a faulty instrument and so on. The leakage of water from the pipeline and the usage of water is intelligently detected and measured by PLC - Remote I/O Module based system. Each house or utility is installed with intelligent flow meters and the inputs or readings are collected from the individual meters by water distribution board via the iOT. Faults and other abnormal conditions are identified instantaneously, and the health of the distribution system is monitored by SCADA. © 2023 IEEE.

The widespread broadcast of fake health news offers a huge challenge that puts the health and well-being of the general population in peril. This is especially true in a time when there is an excess of information available. In order to develop automated systems that are capable of spotting fraudulent health-related information, researchers have applied artificial intelligence methodologies such as machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL). These approaches have been utilized in order to construct these systems. In order to address the problem that is now being faced, this is being done. The objective of this research is to give an analysis of the method, performance measurements, and problems that are linked with machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) systems for the purpose of recognizing fake health news. This analysis is presented in the course of this research. We study the many ways that are applied in the process of feature engineering, that of model architectural design, and that of evaluation metrics throughout the machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) paradigms. These approaches are utilized in the process of feature engineering. Additionally, we evaluate the significance of our findings for the development of the efficiency of systems that are meant to identify false health news and offer prospective areas for additional research in this vitally important sector. Lastly, we conclude that our findings have the potential to improve the effectiveness of these systems. © (2025), (International Association of Engineers). All rights reserved.

The AZ80 magnesium(Mg)alloy cabin component with high strength and excellent ductility was developed by W-shaped channel extrusion(WCE)at 350℃ and subsequent T6 heat *** effect of WCE process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy was experimentally investigated,and the age-hardening behavior with microstructure evolution during heat treatment was *** to the introduction of multi-stage asymmetric extrusion and severe shear deformation along the annular channel,the average grain size of the WCE extruded alloy could be effectively refined to 4.7μ***,theβphase particles were dynamically precipitated from the fine grain boundaries during extrusion,which hindered the grain growth,but worsen the material *** T6 treatment,the properties of component were eventually improved to a yield strength(YS)of 218 MPa and ultimate tensile strength(UTS)of 344 MPa with elongation(EL)of 14.5%.It was revealed that the rod/lath-and needle-shaped continuousβphase(CP)with finer size precipitated after T6 treatment was more effective in hindering the movement of dislocations and strengthened the alloy than lamellar discontinuousβphase(DP).The dispersed phase precipitated in the grains,the annihilation of dislocations,the uniformly distributed grains and the re-dissolution ofβphase particles at initial grain boundaries after T6 treatment greatly contributed to the ductility of ***,the T6 treatment also promoted the basal plane of most grains which were re-arranged to the extrusion direction,which promoted the possibility of non-basal slip activation and further improved the elongation of the *** a result,the UTS and YS of the final component increased by 10%and the EL increased by 7%,respectively.

To eliminate unnecessary background information,such as soft tissues in original CT images and the adverse impact of the similarity of adjacent spines on lumbar image segmentation and surgical path planning,a two‐stage approach for localising lumbar segments is ***,based on the multi‐scale feature fusion technology,a non‐linear regression method is used to achieve accurate localisation of the overall spatial region of the lumbar spine,effectively eliminating useless background information,such as soft *** the second stage,we directly realised the precise positioning of each segment in the lumbar spine space region based on the non‐linear regression method,thus effectively eliminating the interference caused by the adjacent *** 3D Intersection over Union(3D_IOU)is used as the main evaluation indicator for the positioning *** an open dataset,3D_IOU values of 0.8339�0.0990 and 0.8559�0.0332 in the first and second stages,respectively is *** addition,the average time required for the proposed method in the two stages is 0.3274 and 0.2105 s ***,the proposed method performs very well in terms of both pre-cision and speed and can effectively improve the accuracy of lumbar image segmentation and the effect of surgical path planning.

Self-Deployable, Adaptive Soft Robots Based on Contracting-Cord Particle Jamming

We developed a new class of soft locomotive robots that can self-assemble into a preprogrammed configuration and vary their stiffness afterward in a highly integrated, compact body using contracting-cord particle jamming (CCPJ). We demonstrate this with a tripod-shaped robot, TripodBot, consisting of three CCPJ-based legs attached to a central body. TripodBot is intrinsically soft and can be stored and transported in a compact configuration. On site, it can self-deploy and crawl in a slip-stick manner through the shape morphing of its legs;a simplified analytical model accurately captures the speed. The robot's adaptability is demonstrated by its ability to navigate tunnels as narrow as 61% of its deployed body width and ceilings as low as 31% of its freestanding height. Additionally, it can climb slopes up to 15 degrees, carry a load of 5 grams (2.4 times its weight), and bear a load 9429 times its weight. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Battery lifetime and reliability depend on accurate state-of-health (SOH) estimation, while complex degradation mechanisms and varying operating conditions strengthen this challenge. This study presents two physics-informed neural network (PINN) configurations, PINN-Parallel, and PINN-Series, designed to improve SOH prediction by combining an equivalent circuit model (ECM) with a long short-term memory (LSTM) network. PINN-Parallel process input data through parallel ECM and LSTM modules and combine their outputs for SOH estimation. On the other hand, the PINN-Series uses a sequential approach that feeds ECM-derived parameters into the LSTM network to supplement temporal data analysis with physics information. Both models utilize easily accessible voltage, current, and temperature data that match realistic battery monitoring constraints. Experimental evaluations show that PINN-Series outperforms the PINN-Parallel and the baseline LSTM model in accuracy and robustness. It also adapts well to different input conditions. This demonstrates that the simulated battery dynamic states from ECM increase the LSTM's ability to capture degradation patterns and improve the model's ability to explain complex battery behavior. However, the tradeoff between the robustness and training efficiency of PINNs is also discussed. The research findings show the potential of PINN models (particularly the PINN-Series) in advancing battery management systems, but the required computational resources need to be considered. In recent years, many eye-tracking related products are developed, focusing on eye movement and gaze tracking. The former mostly uses more expensive wearable or invasive devices, and the latter sometimes needs to utilize 3D feature points of the head, making data collection more cumbersome. Methods using pure RGB images as input are less common and often require a large amount of data. The direction of gaze is affected by many factors, including head posture as people tend to turn their heads in the direction they are looking. This paper proposes a two-stage gaze direction detection network which consists of the prediction of both head posture and gaze direction. The detection of head and eyes are first conducted, followed by the head posture estimation. We expand the receptive field to acquire more detailed pose information by employing the dilated convolution to HOPENet. For gaze direction prediction, dilated convolutional VGG16 is adopted for feature extraction. The head's facing angle is then incorporated and passed through three fully connected layers to detect the gaze points of the eyes in the images. Due to the lack of public data for evaluation, in this work we create a new image dataset which utilizes an IMU to record the head posture and a projector-camera system to identify the gaze direction. Transfer learning is also employed to compensate for the limited dataset. The experiments using real-scene images have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed gaze direction detection technique. © 2024 IEEE.
