The goal of this research is a proposal of a standard model for vehicle system simulations. Recently, the CO 2 reduction and efficiency improvement of the energy consumption are important subjects in development of the vehicle systems. The new technologies related to vehicle development have continued to increase in complexity. For these reasons, the energy management simulation by the coordinated design of an electric system and vehicle system is required. The electrical behavior of the batteries becomes important to improve the energy management in the vehicle systems. The battery modeling technologies and the application example for vehicle system simulation are reported.

The work function of a material is a very important figure of merit in determining the material's applicability as an efficient electron emitter. Consequently, the work function of a variety of materials utilized in both thermionic and field-assisted cathodes for electron emission was investigated computationally using ab-initio quantum mechanical modeling methods based on the density functional theory (DFT) approach (Hohenberg and Kohm, 1964). This approach enables the detailed and self-consistent treatment of a system utilizing quantum mechanical principles and yields accurate information pertaining to its electronic properties. Of particular interest are cesium-iodide (CsI) coated carbon-based cathodes (Shiffler et al., 2004), which comprise a very promising class of cold field emitters capable of operating at low global electric fields. However, the exact origin of their enhanced emission properties is not clear, and a better understanding is necessary for further improvement and optimization of this technology. We apply ab-initio quantum mechanical modeling for understanding the origin of the fundamental emission mechanisms of this material system

High performance but computationally expensive Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) require both algorithmic and custom hardware improvement to reduce model size and to improve energy efficiency for edge computing applications. Recent CNN architectures employ depthwise separable convolution to reduce the total number of weights and MAC operations. However, depthwise separable convolution workload does not run efficiently in existing CNN accelerators. This paper proposes an energy-efficient CONV unit for pointwise and depthwise operation. The CONV unit utilizes weight stationary to enable high efficiency. The row partial sum reduction is engaged to increase parallelism in pointwise convolution thereby lightening the memory requirements on output partial sums. Our design achieves a maximum efficiency of 3.17 TOPS/W at 0.85V/40nm CMOS which is well-suited for energy constrained edge computing applications.

To address the growing concern of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) entering the airspace over a public event, building, or other protected spaces (whether for recreational purposes or with malicious intent), we are developing a counter-sUAS solution. This solution is based on an aerial intercept vehicle that autonomously pursues the target sUAS and launches a net to entangle the propellers and/or unbalance the sUAS to bring it to the ground. The intercept vehicle is a hexacopter that is guided by a visible-light camera and a single-pixel lidar mounted on a gimbal to track the target sUAS. A custom-built, lightweight, C02 cartridge-powered, net launcher mounted to the top of the vehicle fires when the intercept vehicle is oriented properly at the target and when it is in range. In this manuscript, we describe the problem constraints, system design, image processing chain, computational infrastructure, physical implementations, and various measurements of performance. We describe the current state of development and our experience with the challenge of designing effective countermeasures. Integrating a large number of embedded memories in System-on-Chips (SoC's) occupies up to more than 70% of the die size, thus requiring Built-In Self-Test (BIST) with the smallest possible area overhead. This paper analyzes MATS++(6N), March C-(10N), March SR(14N), and March CL(12N) test algorithms and shows that they cannot detect either Write Disturb Faults (WDFs) or Deceptive Read Destructive Faults (DRDFs) or both. Therefore to improve fault detection, an automation program is developed based on sequence operation (SQ) generation rules. However after solving the undetected fault, the outcome in term of its detection result of Static Double Cell Faults using the specified test algorithm especially Transition Coupling Faults (CFtrs), Write Destructive Coupling Faults (CFwds), Read Destructive Coupling Faults (CFrds) and Deceptive Read Destructive Faults (CFdrds) are observed.

Finding fusion in the domain of engineering and healthcare, we propose a wearable emergency alarm system that 1) monitors continuously the activity levels of the patient and 2) detects anomalies, in particular unconsciousness, in a timely fashion to alert the caregivers of the emergencies. In this summary, we share our experience building the first prototype and the preliminary results that support the feasibility of the system and give rise to a number of design choices towards better energy efficiency and emergency event detection accuracy.

LGAN: Lung segmentation in CT scans using generative adversarial network

Lung segmentation in computerized tomography (CT) images is an important procedure in various lung disease diagnosis. Most of the current lung segmentation approaches are performed through a series of procedures with manually empirical parameter adjustments in each step. Pursuing an automatic segmentation method with fewer steps, in this paper, we propose a novel deep learning Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) based lung segmentation schema, which we denote as LGAN. Our proposed schema can be generalized to different kinds of neural networks for lung segmentation in CT images and is evaluated on a dataset containing 220 individual CT scans with two metrics: segmentation quality and shape similarity. Also, we compared our work with current state of the art methods. The results obtained with this study demonstrate that the proposed LGAN schema can be used as a promising tool for automatic lung segmentation due to its simplified procedure as well as its good performance. This paper presents a stereo object matching method that exploits both 2D contextual information from images as well as 3D object-level information. Unlike existing stereo matching methods that exclusively focus on the pixel-level correspondence between stereo images within a volumetric space (i.e., cost volume), we exploit this volumetric structure in a different manner. The cost volume explicitly encompasses 3D information along its disparity axis, therefore it is a privileged structure that can encapsulate the 3D contextual information from objects. However, it is not straightforward since the disparity values map the 3D metric space in a non-linear fashion. Thus, we present two novel strategies to handle 3D objectness in the cost volume space: selective sampling (RoISelect) and 2D-3D fusion (fusion-by-occupancy), which allow us to seamlessly incorporate 3D object-level information and achieve accurate depth performance near the object boundary regions. Our depth estimation achieves competitive performance in the KITTI dataset and the Virtual-KITTI 2.0 dataset. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) plays a major role in the diagnosis of several diseases. However, the acquisition of measurements in the k-space domain, which is the basis for image reconstruction, takes a long time compared to other imaging modalities and is comparatively costly. In this context, undersampled MRI reconstruction is an approach for decreasing the acquisition duration and the exam's final cost. With this objective, both Compressed Sensing (CS) and Deep Learning (DL) provide techniques for generating good quality MRI images from undersampled measurements. In this paper, we combine CS and DL methods in order to investigate the potential increase in image quality over each isolated approach. We use reconstructions from from highly undersampled MRI signals using two CS approaches, the L1 and total minimizations, as inputs to a U-Net. We also use, for comparison, the reconstructions from the same undersampled signals using L2 minimization, and also test them as inputs to a U-net. The goal is to evaluate whether the the U-Net can improve the results of the CS reconstructions after learning from degraded and original image pairs. Our experimental results suggest that the combination of L1 or TV minimization with U-Nets can improve reconstruction, in terms of objective image quality, over each technique used in isolation.

A polarization-insensitive plasmonic absorber is designed consisting of Au fishnet structures on a TiO2 spacer/Ag mirror. The fishnet structures excite localized surface plasmon and generate hot electrons from the absorbed photons, while the TiO2 layer induces Fabry–Perot resonance, and the Ag mirror acts as a back *** optimizing the TiO2 layer thickness, numerical simulation shows that 97% of the incident light is absorbed in the Au layer. The maximum responsivity and external quantum efficiency of the device can approach 5 mA/W and ~1%, respectively, at the wavelength of 700 nm.
