A concept of the porous core electromagnet is studied. The form for the electromagnet core was printed using 3D technique. The core was manufactured manually using iron filings and cured in room temperature and air pressure. The aim of this paper is to deliver initial analysis of the proposed powder core together with the modelling procedure by the using finite element method, and to compare the experimental results of the manually manufactured electromagnet. The material property of the numerical model was adjusted to fit the experimental results. Finally, the electromagnet was tested in the levitation real–time experiment.

The development of smart grids makes the dependence of power systems on information systems increasing. However, the optimal routing of power communication networks does not mean the routing for power systems is optimal. Besides, power communication networks are different from ordinary, public communication networks, as the secondary system of power systems, the primary purpose is to ensure the reliability of power systems. Based on the cyber-physical sensitivity analysis, the importance of information flow can be evaluated. Then, a dynamic CPS optimal routing model distinguishing the importance of information flow is proposed to configure more reliable and shorter path to higher importance information flow. Case study on different scenarios of a modified IEEE 14-bus system demonstrates the validity of the proposed routing optimization model.

In this research, we propose an energy-efficient predictive control system with outside-air-introduced-type air conditioner in large-scale data center. The system consists of two parts;a predictive part and a control part. We propose to use a dynamic model construction technique called just-in-time (JIT) modeling in the predictive part. It can estimate the air temperature and humidity in the DC room and temperature at the inlet of servers at a high accuracy while the update of data center model is constructed naturally. We also propose to use a control algorithm that utilizes air enthalpy at outside and DC room in addition to the air temperature and humidity in the control part. Owing to the enthalpy, we achieve an effective energy-saving with both wet and dry air. We introduced this predictive control system to a large-scale data center and had verified the improvement in the energy-saving performance for few month. The air temperature and humidity after one hour could be successfully estimated with an accuracy of correlation coefficient of 0.97 or more using the proposed JIT modeling. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the power consumption of the DC room was significantly reduced by 28.9% using the proposed control algorithm compared to that of the conventional control algorithm.

In September 2009, the IEEE Board of Directors approved the new IEEE tagline - Advancing Technology for Humanity - as recommended by the IEEE Public Visibility Committee. Aligned with the IEEE tagline, IEEE Standards Association takes the initiative to address ethics in engineering design under “Ethically Aligned Design: A Vision for Prioritizing Human Wellbeing with Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous systems” focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous systems (AI/AS). The intention is to cover, as much as possible, the ethical concerns on AI/AS through a rigorous regard to the problem from different perspectives. The ultimate objective of this ongoing initiative is to provide guidelines/procedures/standards to prioritize human wellbeing in the forthcoming evolutions on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems. This article reviews different aspects addressed in Version 1 of this initiative.
