We investigate synchronization in a population of mobile pulse-coupled agents with a view towards implementations in swarm-robotics systems and mobile sensor networks. Previous theoretical approaches dealt with range and nearest-neighbor interactions. In the latter case, a synchronization-hindering regime for intermediate agent mobility is found. We investigate the robustness of this intermediate regime under practical scenarios. We show that synchronization in the intermediate regime can be predicted by means of a suitable metric of the phase response curve. Furthermore, we study more-realistic K-nearest-neighbor and cone-of-vision interactions, showing that it is possible to control the extent of the synchronization-hindering region by appropriately tuning the size of the neighborhood. To assess the effect of noise, we analyze the propagation of perturbations over the network and draw an analogy between the response in the hindering regime and stable chaos. Our findings reveal the conditions for the control of clock or activity synchronization of agents with intermediate mobility. In addition, the emergence of the intermediate regime is validated experimentally using a swarm of physical robots interacting with cone-of-vision interactions.

The paper deals with issue of parallel connection of more DC/DC converters. The article contains theoretical overview of one group of methods designed for proper functioning of parallel connected converters. The main advantage of referred methods is their simplicity. In some cases they fully satisfy requirements and they can be used for correct functioning of parallel power stages. Following part is dedicated to analysis of the one method by computer simulations. Analyzed method with current feedback has proved to be operational. Current-sharing can be ensured if current reference value is set at correct value for certain load. The results of the simulation showed that for 5Ω load and 20V of required output voltage is the 1A of reference current value just right. But when output resistive is increased, reference current value should be set more tightly (at the lower value). However then it can cause fall of the output voltage. It is why the droop methods increase current-sharing abilities, but makes worse output voltage regulation.

The linearised Navier-Stokes equations form the basis of many models used in the design of feedback controllers for fluid flows. This set of coupled, partial differential algebraic equations (PDAEs) presents several numerical problems upon spatial discretisation, and whilst these problems are relatively well understood in the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) community, little attention has been paid to their system theoretic model analogies. This paper considers the problem known in the fluid dynamics community as the `checkerboard instability', and reconciles current understanding of this phenomenon from a systems' theory perspective, whereby frequency domain analysis elegantly explains the phenomenon. We report work in progress on deriving a discretised version of the linearised Navier-Stokes equations that avoids this problem.

This article presents the basic principles of operation for model predictive control (MPC), a control methodology that opens a new world of opportunities. MPC is a powerful technique that can fulfill the increased performance and higher efficiency demands of power converters today. The main features of this technique are presented as well as the MPC strategy and basic elements. The two main MPC methods for power converters [continuous-control-set MPC (CCS-MPC) and finite-control-set MPC (FCS-MPC)] are described, and their application to a voltage-source inverter (VSI) is shown to illustrate their capabilities. This article tries to bridge the gap between the powerful but sometimes abstract techniques developed by researchers in the control community and the empirical approach of power electronics practitioners.
