This article presents a systematic overview of stable stochastic predictive control, its underlying concepts, and a transmission protocol which does not require any computational or storage facility at the actuator end. We assume that the control channel has i.i.d. packet dropouts. Our results ensure mean square boundedness of the states of the closed-loop plant for any positive bound on control in the presence of potentially unbounded additive noise. The proposed control mechanism stabilizes the system for any non-zero probability of successful transmission.

The use of upstream wind measurements has motivated the development of blade-pitch preview controllers to improve rotor speed tracking and structural load reduction beyond that achievable via conventional feedback design. Such preview controllers, typically based upon model predictive control (MPC) for its constraint handling properties, alter the closed-loop dynamics of the existing blade-pitch feedback control system. This can result in the robustness properties of the original closed-loop system being no longer preserved. As a consequence, the aim of this work is to formulate a MPC layer on top of a given output-feedback controller, with a view to retaining the closed-loop robustness and frequency-domain performance of the latter. The separate nature of the proposed controller structure enables clear and transparent qualifications of the benefits gained by using preview and predictive control. This is illustrated by results obtained from closed-loop simulations upon a high-fidelity turbine, showing the performance comparison between a nominal feedback compensator and the proposed MPC-based preview controller.

This paper aims to present a systematic methodology for designing a Replica of an Advanced Takagi-Sugeno (RATS) discrete observer. Advance observers for nonlinear systems under Takagi-Sugeno representation have been designed for years using efficient structure such as non-PDC (Parallel Distributed Compensation), which it is powerful and, in some cases, it is the only observer able to estimate an unknown value. However, in spite of these advantages, this observer strategy presents an inconvenient: The use of matrix inversion. This paper will present the RATS observer which is equivalent an observer using the non-PDC structure without matrix inversion. By a stability analysis, not only the efficiency is proved but also its validity. Finally, some simulation results will emphasize the originality and the power of the proposed RATS observer.

The characterization of the closed-loop delays in a wide-area control system (WACS) is an important foundation for further research. The method to estimate and measure the closed-loop delay in actual WACSs were proposed in this paper. Then, the closed-loop delays in the actual WACS in Guizhou Power Grid in China were measured and analyzed. Also, the measured delays were used to verify the normal distribution estimation model proposed in previous research. The results indicate that the closed-loop delay in the WACS followed a normal distribution.

This paper proposes a non-iterative, Lyapunov-based distributed model predictive control (MPC) design for invariant spatially-interconnected systems comprised of a network of subsystems with coupled dynamcis and subject to local state and/or input constraints. Considered here is the distributed MPC design for linear systems in input-output form with fixed-structure local state-feedback-like control law. The proposed distributed MPC design approach ensures asymptotic stability and recursive feasibility, and its online implementation can be formulated as solving a linear matrix inequality (LMI) problem defined at the subsystem level. Simulation results using a heat equation in one-dimensional space demonstrate the merits and effectiveness of the proposed approach.
