This paper proposes a new decentralized control strategy for parallel inverters operating in an islanded Microgrid. The proposed technique uses the Uncertainty and Disturbance Estimation (UDE) strategy in order to generate a virtual output impedance while keeping the voltage of the internal Elctro-Motive Force (EMF) source equal for all the inverters in the system. The system achieves accurate current sharing over a broad spectrum, which is proportional to the inverter capacity. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the performance of this method 1 .

Many human activities, given their intrinsic modularity, present structural information which can be exploited by classification algorithms: this enhances the capability of robots to predict activities. We introduce a semantic reasoning paradigm in which, via logical and statistical learning, we discriminate between actions on the basis of contextual associations. An example of this is considering the co-occurrence of scenario objects when predicting an action. We also combine such probabilistic reasoning with traditional sequence likelihood modeling. The system, given partial execution evidence of a task (e.g. assembling a car), first reasons in logical terms over qualitative primitives to constrain the space of possibilities, and then predicts the most sequentially likely action (e.g. 'PickAnd-PutScrew'). A further claim is also the representation of actions in tractable logic, enabling online-capable recognition. Our evaluation, adopting annotated primitives of motion and tool usage, proves that simple sequence-only prediction methods (i.e. bigram sequence information, 59.80%) are outperformed by the proposed polynomial-time context- and sequence- aware inference (i.e. with 8 primitives, various degrees of partial evidence and bigram sequence information, 78.43%), proving the effectiveness of the combined approach.

The aim of this work is to compute a level backstepping control strategy for a coupled tanks system. The coupled tanks plant is a component included in the water treatment system of power plants. The nonlinear-model of the process was designed and implemented in Matlab-Simulink. The advantages of the control method proposed is that it takes into consideration the nonlinearity which can be useful for stabilization and a larger operating point with specified performances. The backstepping control method is computed using the nonlinear model of the system and the performance was validated on the physical plant.

This paper presents a novel beam flexure-based XY positioning stage with an axial force balanced design of double parallelogram decoupling modules. By mean of connecting two decoupling modules along the same actuation axis, the axial forces are evenly applied to each side of the motion stage. Therefore the in-plane rotation can be significantly restricted. Also a redundant constraint is proposed to the guidance module to restrict its rotational motions. The monolithical fabrication of the spatial configuration of the proposed mechanism can be resorted to additive manufactured technology. Numerical simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed XY positioning stage.

Received signal strength (RSS) based location fingerprinting is a powerful wireless positioning technique. It estimates the target location by consulting a preliminary database and searching for the best matched RSS fingerprints. The construction and maintenance of a sufficient fingerprint database could be laborious and problematic. This paper proposes a new approach that utilizes the Kriging spatial interpolation algorithm to build complete fingerprint databases from sparsely collected measurements. The interpolation performance is analyzed over various extents of sparsity and number of measurements. The constructed fingerprint databases are utilized to locate a static target and the localization performances are analyzed. It is shown that the Kriging algorithm can be used to build RSS fingerprint databases of good accuracy based on sparsely collected measurements.

Recent developments in controlsystems have made it possible to manipulate wheel torques independently in order to improve vehicle handling characteristics of electric vehicles. These vehicles usually employ in-wheel motors which can be independently controlled. This paper presents a 4-wheel-drive electric vehicle for research purposes. A dynamic model based on the connection of the mechanical devices in the vehicle is implemented as a CAD model and as a simulator using Simmechanics in the MATLAB/Simulink framework. This model is validated using data from real experiments and it can be used to test new torque controllers before their implementation. The vehicle has a real-time control system that integrates the torque controller for the 4 motors. This control system fulfils the driver's demand computing the torque that must be supplied by each of the 4 motors. Experimental results are presented, that show that this vehicle seems to be a good test bench that can be used for testing advanced torque distribution controllers.

The intelligent adaptive agent designed in this paper focuses on finding the best configuration of a robot that needs to make a decision in order to fulfil a task, using a genetic algorithm for reasoning and behaviour generation. This intelligent control system can run locally, on the robot's platform, or globally, if the agent is a supervisor that assigns tasks to robots under its control. The robot's configuration contains parameters that define its internal model, first in the decision making process, and then to construct its behaviour. The novelty of this paper consist in the heterogeneous encoding including fuzzy model inside the chromosome and specialized mechanisms for selection, mutation and crossover. A particular Mobius transformation mapping a completely general discrete-time algebraic dynamical system into a standard (proper) continuous-time one is introduced and studied. The freedom in choosing ab ante the exclusion point (in which the transformation is not defined) different from any point of interest makes this transformation a powerful universal tool for solving virtually any optimal/robust control problem for this class of systems by an elegant, yet simple reduction to known results.
