This paper explores the control challenges associated with wind energy conversion systems (WECS) incorporating a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) powered by advanced converters. With the increasing prominence of power electronics, particular emphasis is placed on the utilization of a new generation of converters, specifically the AC/AC matrix converter. This converter offers direct AC/AC power conversion, bidirectional power flow, and nearly sinusoidal input and output waveforms. The study presented in this paper focuses on assessing the performance of a wind turbine equipped with a DFIG and powered by a matrix converter, which employs the maximum power point tracking technique to get the maximum power obtainable. The studied system is evaluated within the dq coordinates. The proposed control scheme is implemented, and its efficacy is assessed through simulation results using MatLab/Simulink.

Electromagnetic current transformers, invented more than 100 years ago, are today the most widespread type of preliminary current converters, used in organizing metrological channels for commercial and technical electricity metering, measuring and relay protection systems. Despite their relatively simple design and modest price, today the question of using unconventional preliminary current converters (Rogowski coils, optical transformers, galvanic-magnetic sensors) is being increasingly raised [1]. This situation is due to the shortcomings of electromagnetic current transformers (CT): large weight and dimensions), explosion and fire hazard, and also saturation of their magnetic conductor in transient modes with the presence of an aperiodic component in short circuiting (SC) current. The phenomenon of saturation leads to significant distortion of the transmitted secondary signal, which in turn may become the cause of overprotection with external SC or delayed protection with internal SC. Russian and international practice in coordinating CT characteristics and relay protection requirements presuppose ensuring correct operation of relay protection systems not only in steady, but also in transient modes with possible saturation of CT magnetic conductors [2]–[5]. At present, testing the correct operation of relay protection and automation devices (RPAD) in transient modes is carried out using the CT saturation time, which under the specific conditions of the location of the CT should be more than the exact current conversion time required for correct operation of the connected RPAD. This time is calculated by special approved methods [2]. Such use of two extreme CT magnetic conductor conditions (saturated/unsaturated), without regard to the current waveform itself may lead to significant inaccuracies in evaluating the correctness of RPAD operation. While many inkjet printers employ only four types of ink (i.e. CKMY) to produce a wide range of colors, numerous technical challenges still exist for contemporary 3D printers to fabricate various materials and generate composite products such as electric devices. Conversely, there have been attempts and endeavors to make things through self-assembly of parts, analogous to the autonomous and decentralized development process of the human body from just 20 types of amino acids. In our previous work, we proposed a method for the rapid production of 3D objects using the centimeter-sized modules (referred to as Roblets) capable of generating a 2D structure and subsequently self-folding themselves into a 3D configuration, akin to origami. To further leverage the capability of generating a wide variety of different types of structures by combining different modules, this research studies a method of automatically selecting and supplying modules using environmental cues. More precisely, we developed a mechanism to couple different modules corresponding to three different environments (on a flat surface, on low-dense saline, and on saturated saline) and yielded different module configurations. The process of self-assembly necessitated the application of perturbation, which was realized by imparting magnetic torque originating from an external magnetic field onto the magnets embedded in the modules.

Combined digital measuring current and voltage transformers (DCVTs), developed at Ivanovo State Power engineering University (ISPEU), are innovative products. The researchers have accumulated some operating experience of devices in existing electrical installations and experience in numerous laboratory tests. At the same time, a number of aspects of the DCVT use still remain the subject of research, for example, the functioning of DCVTs as a primary sensor for protection against single-phase ground faults (SPGFs). It is also necessary to evaluate the effect of the introduction of DCVTs in the overhead networks of power distribution zones (PDZs), primarily from the point of view of reducing the costs of searching for the location of the SPGFs. The procedure for searching for an electrical fault using the functions built into DCVT 6 -10 kV is described. The article describes the effects of the introduction of DCVTs in 6–10 kV distribution zones, and also provides criteria that allow us to assess in which cases the use of DCVTs and technologies based on them will be most beneficial.

Pneumonia is one of the top causes of death in Romania and early detection of this disease improves the recovery chances and shortens the length of hospitalization. In this work, we develop a solution for automatic pneumonia detection based on convolutional neural networks. Four network models are investigated. They are trained on 4.163 images from a public dataset and tested on 530 images. The best results are obtained by one of the proposed models conducting to a sensitivity of 98.72%, an accuracy of 89.81%, and ROC 93.46%. Thus, this research proposes a lightweight screening tool that can help triaging the patients with pneumonia.
