Two modifications of band-pass filters (BPF) of the Sallen-Key family of the second order are considered, in which independent tuning of general parameters - the pole frequency, pole attenuation and the transfer scale factor is implemented. The transfer functions and main parameters of the classical well-known Sallen-Key scheme BPF and its two new modifications are compared. The results of computer simulation in CAD Micro-Cap 12 of amplitude-frequency characteristics of two BPF are presented. Pole frequency and pole attenuation in the developed filters are adjusted by resistors R5, R7. The second modification of the BPF contains two outputs, which provides additional opportunities for its application. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel application of impedance spectroscopy as a means of inspection for stator winding insulation. It proposes, for the first time, a means for health monitoring and failure identification during thermal degradation effects in the insulation systems of stator coils from a concentrated stator winding. By periodical ex-situ inspection of these coils, the thermal ageing data of the insulation are profiled up to the point of failure. The study maps this evolution of thermal degradation patterns via novel interpretation of the impedance frequency responses, using well known techniques such as the Bode and Nyquist plots. This grants further insight into the characteristics shown in the ageing profiles over time and frequency. These new profiles enable the identification of critical points that can act as pre-emptive indicators of coil health and failure inception. This is a key finding as it renders the capability to provide an adequate lifing tool for electrical machine windings and coil assemblies within industrial settings. The insulation system examined in this study is taken from the coils of a concentrated stator winding in a 2MW permanent magnet generator used in an aerospace application.

Input and state constrained inverse optimal control with application to power networks

We study input and state constrained inverse optimal control problems starting from a stabilizing controller with a control Lyapunov function, where the goal is to make the controller an explicit solution of the resulting constrained optimal control problem. For an appropriate cost design and initial states for which a sublevel set of the Lyapunov function is contained in the state constraint set and the initial input lies on an ellipsoid inside the input constraint set, we show that the stabilizing controller solves the constrained optimal control problem. Compared to the state-of-the-art, we avoid solving nonlinear optimization problems evaluated pointwise, i.e., for every state, or in a repetitive fashion, i.e., at each time step. We apply our theoretical results to study the angular droop control studied in (Jouini et al., 2022) of an inverter-based power network. For this, we accommodate the constraints on the angle and power generation and exemplify our approach through a two-inverter case study.

Cooperative perception is a technique that enhances the on-board sensing and perception of automated vehicles by fusing data from multiple sources, such as other vehicles, roadside infrastructure, cloud/edge servers, among others. It can improve the performance of automated driving in complex scenarios, like unsignalled roundabouts or intersections where the visibility and awareness of other road users are limited. Motion Prediction (MP) is a key component of cooperative perception, as it enables the estimation and prediction of microscopic traffic states, such as the positions and speeds of all vehicles. It relies on information from other agents and their relationships among them, so the information provided by external sources is valuable because it enhances the understanding of the *** this paper, we present improved MP through Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication. We have trained Hierarchical Vector Transformer (HiVT) to be a map-less solution that can be used in road domains. With this model, we have implemented and compared two association methods to evaluate our framework on a real V2V dataset (V2V4Real). Our evaluation concludes that our V2V MP improves performance due to better scene understanding over a single-vehicle MP.

Power transformers are essential elements in the production and distribution of electricity, and keeping them in optimum operating condition is a constant concern for specialists in the field. The condition of power transformers is mainly determined by the condition of the mixed insulation system, i.e. solid cellulose paper insulation and liquid insulating oil insulation. This is why the Three Ratio Technique (TRT) is used with good results for the early detection of power transformer faults. In this paper, the ratios defined by the TRT method are used to train a machine learning classifier based on ensemble and random forest algorithms. The validation of the power transformer fault identification software application for the proposed method is carried out in the experimental section.

Robust Lattice-based Motion Planning

This paper proposes a robust lattice-based motion-planning algorithm for nonlinear systems affected by a bounded disturbance. The proposed motion planner utilizes the nominal disturbance-free system model to generate motion primitives, which are associated with fixed-size tubes. These tubes are characterized through designing a feedback controller, that guarantees boundedness of the errors occurring due to mismatch between the disturbed nonlinear system and the nominal system. The motion planner then sequentially implements the tube-based motion primitives while solving an online graph-search problem. The objective of the graph-search problem is to connect the initial state to the final state, through sampled states in a suitably discretized state space, such that the tubes do not pass through any unsafe states (representing obstacles) appearing during runtime. The proposed strategy is implemented on an Euler-Lagrange based ship model which is affected by significant wind disturbance. It is shown that the uncertain system trajectories always stay within a suitably constructed tube around the nominal trajectory and terminate within a region around the final state, whose size is dictated by the size of the tube. © 2022, CC BY.

At the end of 2019, the disease later known as COVID-19 emerged, causing the recent pandemic. The objective of this study was to propose an adaptive mathematical model with the capacity to forecast the health needs of the conntry in the face of the pandemic situation, based on the health needs and the demands for supplies, medicines and other resources identified in the database of the Ministry of Health from the Republic of Panama. In addition, information from the GitHub Repository of the John Hopkins University Center for systems Science and engineering was considered. A quantitative methodology was used from existing data, based on a mixed approach that incorporated dynamic simulation, machine learning and Six-Sigma design. A monitoring model has been developed focused on reducing health risk due to shortages of medicines and medical supplies in the event of a pandemic or similar situation. This research has laid the foundations for the development of epidemiological models in Panama to facilitate data processing, providing a complementary tool for decision-making based on short-Term predictions, which is expected to achieve a better distribution of health resources in the country in cases of national health emergency. © 2023 IEEE.

multi-energy systems (MES) have emerged as a vital solution for integrating and optimizing various energy sources, such as electricity, heating, and cooling, within energy markets. This paper proposes a method that leverages advanced energy management techniques to assess the performance of energy hubs (EHs) on the demand side. The EH, which integrates key components such as wind turbines (WTs), energy storage systems (ESS), and combined heat and power (CHP) units, is designed to meet the demand for electricity, heating, and cooling. A critical aspect of the optimization involves implementing demand response programs (DRPs) specifically tailored to electrical demand, which help in adjusting consumption patterns to reduce costs. The results of the study demonstrate the substantial flexibility offered by effective EH management, enabling a more dynamic response to fluctuating energy demands. Through detailed simulations, the study shows that incorporating renewable energy sources (RES) and demand response strategies can achieve 2226.2 dollars reduction in the operating costs of EHs.

Vertical transportation systems, such as elevators and escalators, are essential components of modern infrastructure, necessitating robust safety mechanisms to ensure user well-being. This paper proposes an Internet of Things (IoT)-based system to enhance the safety, monitoring, and efficiency of vertical transport. The system addresses critical issues, such as sudden elevator cable failures leading to entrapment or uncontrolled descent, power losses during operation, and fire hazards caused by material friction. By leveraging IoT technology, the system enables real-time monitoring and immediate notification of potential problems via messaging. The implementation requires components such as ultrasonic sensors, smoke sensors, vibration sensors, microcontrollers, DC motors, batteries, relays, and the UBIDOT application. The resulting system is low-cost, user-friendly, and economically viable, making it accessible to individuals with minimal technical expertise. Furthermore, it is designed for ease of construction and troubleshooting, offering a practical and scalable solution to improve elevator safety and reliability. © 2025 IEEE.

The highly demanding operation of electrical machines in aerospace can lead to the degradation of electrical insulation systems within the machine windings over time. This paper presents a novel method for high frequency modelling of a coil from the concentrated stator winding of an 2MW aerospace generator, for the purpose of characterising the insulation system by the amplitude and phase responses by the Bode plots in the same framework as electrical impedance spectroscopy. This new approach of high frequency model utilises a finite element model, deployed in tandem with an electrical equivalent circuit representation. Matlab is used to quantify the results taken from finite element modelling and implemented into LTSpice, so that the model considers mutual coupling of inductances and high-frequency effects, such as proximity and skin effects. This novel methodology allows extraction of the impedance profile with respect to the material changes within the simulated insulation system.
