Microgrid systems are becoming more popular and the main component in a microgrid system is generation, which in a microgrid system usually consists of distributed generations (DGs). Because the renewable energy (RE) generators are an inverter-based generator, a microgrid dominated by RE generators is called inverter-based microgrid. Due to intermittency of RE generator, such as solar PV, the RE power generation variation may cause instability. The conventional method to analyze system stability due to the variation of loads and generation is modal analysis. In this experiment the proposed method for analyzing small signal stability is by using Kharitonov's Theorem. The objective of this experiment is to analyze inverter-based stability using Kharitonov's Theorem and compare it to the result using conventional analysis method which is modal analysis. Using Kharitonov's Theorem, the system stability can be determined for several operation scenarios within certain time range. In this experiment, the inverter-based microgrid will be modeled using DIgSILENT powerFactory and the system matrices will be exported into MATLAB software to be analyzed and converted to four transfer functions using Kharitonov's Theorem. The four output transfer function will determined the system small signal stability of modeled microgrid in one day operation. © 2023 IEEE.

Understanding the charge/discharge mechanism of batteries plays an important role in the development of high-performance systems,but extremely complicated reactions are *** these complex phenomena are also bottlenecks for the establishment of all-sol id-state batteries(ASSB),we conducted multi-scale analysis using combined multi-measurement techniques,to directly observe charge/discharge reactions at hierarchical scales for the oxide-type ASSB using Na as the carrier *** particular,all of measurement techniques are applied to cross-section ASSB in the same cell,to complementarily evaluate the elemental distributions and structural *** Operando scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,the Na concentration in the electrode layers changes on the micrometer scale under charge/discharge reactions in the first ***,Operando Raman spectroscopy reveal changes in the bonding states at the atomic scale in the active material,including changes in reversible structural *** cycling the ASSB,the elemental distributions are clearly observed along with the particle shapes and can reveal the Na migration mechanism at the nanometer scale,by time-of-flight secondary ion mass ***,this study can provide a fundamental and comprehensive understanding of the charge/discharge mechanism by observing reaction processes at multiple scales.

In low-voltage solar grids, traditional fault analysis and monitoring systems are used to detect power faults. These include wide-area protection technology with GPS and phasor measurement units (PMUs) and protective relays at each transmission line end. However, these designs increase data complexity and system cost. This paper uses the non-intrusive load identification technology, which involves installing a measuring device at the entrance of the extra high-voltage (EHV) transmission network. The measurement signal is processed by a proposed feature extraction method to form power energy features of various fault types in the frequency domain of the internal line of the low-voltage solar photovoltaic power grid. This approach is not only easier to install, but it is also more cost-effective. The results of the proposed method show the apparent differences for the different fault types. © 2024 IEEE.

The electrification of offshore oil and gas platforms (OOGPs), using offshore wind turbines, is now a reality, aimed at minimizing carbon emissions. In this scenario, the utilization of battery energy storage systems (BESS) improves both efficiency and power quality. As this integration comes with a high CAPEX, industries demand exploring BESS for multiple ancillary services on OOGPs. Thus, this paper proposes an alternative approach to energizing a power transformer (PT) using the BESS power conversion system (PCS) on the platform, aiming to minimize inrush currents. This avoids the necessity for additional bulky devices, converters, or dc voltage sources specifically designated for this purpose. The strategy consists of manipulating residual core flux using BESS PCS followed by a controlled switching, which reduces inrush currents during PT energization. The results show effective reduction of the inrush current from 2.31 pu to 0.16 pu for the presented case study. © 2024 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized the way we interact with our environment, and the smart meter is one of the most important applications of loT. This paper presents an loT-based smart meter designed to measure energy consumption accurately and detect energy theft in real-time. The system is based on the ATmega328p and uses the ESP8266 Wi-Fi module and SIM800 GSM module to establish wireless connectivity and loT functionality. The smart meter employs AC current and voltage sensors to measure true RMS of power and energy consumption. The system is designed to provide real-time energy consumption data to the utility company, enabling them to manage the power grid more efficiently. Additionally, the system can detect energy theft by comparing the energy consumption data with the expected energy consumption for a given period. The system can also send alerts to the utility company and the end-user in case of any suspicious activity. The proposed loT-based smart meter can help reduce energy wastage and improve the overall efficiency of the power grid. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper proposes an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a rigid contact module and two supplementary forward-direction motors, designed for the contact-based inspection of porcelain insulators. During the free-flight, this aerial robot is controlled by a geometric tracking controller. When approaching and contacting the insulators, the impedance controller generates enough force to sustain contact by using two forward-direction motors, while the geometric tracking controller maintains its orientation. This platform is validated through simulations, demonstrating its effectiveness in performing contact-based inspection tasks. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes a technique for indoor localization based on a visible light positioning approach. The strategy relies on using lighting luminaires that modulate the luminous flux at different frequencies. A light sensor is then used to gather the illuminance signal used as input for a previously trained Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to estimate the position of the sensor. The work's main contribution is using an illuminance estimator based on the lighting distribution of the luminaires to perform the training procedure of the ANN. The lighting distribution is obtained through *** file provided by the manufacturer, i.e., the same file used for lighting designs. Therefore, by using characteristics of the environment and *** file, the proposed system can provide data to train accurately the ANN used in the positioning method. The results attested to the satisfactory performance of the proposed localization technique as it produced mean distance errors of 1.51cm and 0.79cm considering 0% and 70% walls' reflectance levels, respectively. © 2022 IEEE.

The swift progression of industrial technology underscores the need for adept professionals capable of skillfully implementing and managing intricate systems. Vocational education assumes a pivotal role in cultivating competent intermediaries proficient in translating theoretical knowledge into practical applications. At the core of industrial automation lies the programmable Logic Controller (PLC), a specialized digital computer that interfaces with sensors, switches, and actuators to execute real-time control programs, thus facilitating meticulous industrial processes. This study concentrates on the practical deployment of a two-floor elevator system utilizing the OMRON CP1E N30 PLC. Elevators, integral to contemporary structures, mandate precision for secure vertical conveyance. Leveraging input signals from elevator buttons, sensors, and switches, the PLC orchestrates efficient motor control and dependable door operations. This hands-on application underscores the PLC's significance within real-time control contexts. Nonetheless, Vocational Higher Education graduates frequently grapple with the challenge of transitioning to industry settings due to limited practical exposure. This partnership harmonizes with the center's objective of enriching vocational education by integrating sophisticated technologies like PLCs, equipping the workforce with the acumen to bridge the gap between theoretical foundations and the pragmatic demands of industry. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper conducts a comprehensive analysis of electrical generator performance using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), with a specific emphasis on the role of coil numbers in influencing generator efficiency and functionality. In the context of modern energy systems, where efficient power generation is paramount, this research aims to elucidate the relationship between the number of coils within a generator and its overall performance, including power output and electromagnetic behavior. Through systematic FEA simulations that vary coil numbers while keeping other parameters constant, this study provides valuable insights into the trade-offs associated with increased coil numbers and enhanced efficiency. These findings have significant implications for optimizing generator designs across various applications, from renewable energy systems to industrial power generation, ultimately advancing our understanding of generator dynamics and contributing to more sustainable and efficient power generation technologies. © 2023 IEEE.
