Description and comparison of fault detection algorithms based on a selected building automation device

The article compares selected classification algorithms and those dedicated to anomaly detection. The models used temperature measurements in four rooms simulated in the MATLAB Simscape environment as test signals. The empirical part of the work consists of two parts. In the first one, an example data from the simulated building heating model object, models were built using unsupervised and supervised machine learning algorithms. Then, data from the facility was collected again with changed parameters (failures occurred at times other than the test ones, and the temperature patterns differed from those recorded and used to train the models). The algorithm effects and test signals (temperature changes) were saved in the database. The results were presented graphically in the Grafana program. The second part of the work presents a solution in which the analysis of the operating status of the heating system takes place in real time. Using an OPC server, data was exchanged between the MATLAB environment and the database installed on a virtual machine in the Ubuntu system. The conclusions present the results and collect the authors’ suggestions regarding the practical applications of the discussed classification models. © 2025 The Author(s).

Multisensor fusion estimation of nonlinear systems with intermittent observations and heavy-tailed noises

Inspired by the robust student t-distribution based nonlinear filter(RSTNF), a student tdistribution and unscented transform(UT) based filter for state estimation of heavy-tailed nonlinear dynamic systems, a modified RSTNF for intermittent observations is derived. The fusion estimation for nonlinear multisensor systems with intermittent observations and heavy-tailed measurement and process noises is *** this work, the centralized fusion, the sequential fusion, and the na¨?ve distributed fusion algorithms are presented, respectively. Theoretical analysis shows that the presented algorithms are effective, which are the efficient extension of the classical unscented Kalman filter(UKF) or the cubature Kalman filter(CKF) based algorithms with Gaussian noises. Simulation results show that the presented algorithms are effective and feasible.

This paper examines the problem of optimal deception attacks against state estimation with partially secured measurements, where smart sensors transmit innovation sequences to the remote end for information fusion. Due to resource limitations or defensive countermeasures, the adversary can only modify data packets transmitted through unreliable channels. Meanwhile, the attack should be synthesized with sophistication to deceive an anomaly detector. To investigate the vulnerabilities of such estimation systems without feedback links and enhance security performance, the optimal attack policy is derived by formulating and explicitly solving a convex optimization problem, with the goal of maximizing the sum of estimation errors. Subsequently, a novel attack detection and resilient state estimation algorithm is proposed to ensure an acceptable level of estimation accuracy. The theoretical performance metrics, including false alarm rates for the proposed detector, are provided. Finally, the effectiveness of the results is confirmed through numerical examples. © 2014 IEEE.

In modern industrial cyber-physical systems, a mass of process variables has been obtained by the high-sampling online sensors. Meanwhile, the key quality indexes are usually obtained infrequently from the laboratory. Hence, these quality variables are with low sampling rate. To avail of the complete process and quality variables with various sampling rates in the dynamic processes, a set of semi-supervised dynamic latent variable models are proposed for dynamic modeling and quality-relevant monitoring. The proposed models have built a unified structure to consider both the auto-correlations and cross-correlations between the process and quality variables with unbalanced sampling sizes. Hence, the feature extraction of the time series data is dynamically adjusted under the guidance of the quality variables. Then, the quality-relevant monitoring schemes are proposed, which is validated by a numerical case and an actual wastewater treatment process. © 2024 IEEE. All rights reserved.

The contribution begins with the attention that there is attention of directly grid connected wind turbine systems with generator designs adapting to the grid constraints. This paper considers permanent magnet synchronous generator topologies with rotor field coils to achieve reduced mass with good efficiency for smart grids. Conventional double-excited synchronous generators have surface mounted permanent magnets. However, the low relative permeability of PMs results in an increased air-gap size. This increased air-gap size limits the minimal copper-mass of the rotor-field-winding. To improve on this limitation, Interior permanent magnets (IPM) are used. Three rotor topologies with IPM are presented in this paper. The analysis of their 2D FEM results and optimization are shown considering their magnetizing current, torque, Back EMF for smart grids application. The three rotor topologies are compared on the overall active mass and their performance by considering PM and rotor copper mass, torque capabilities and efficiency. The spoke-type topology with rectangular magnets achieves the lowest total rotor mass reduction of 39% total mass reduction when compared to the topology with PMs that are buried horizontally. The reduced copper mass and flux variation capabilities are good characteristics in wind energy conversion generators with direct grid connections for smart grid. © 2023 IEEE.

Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) information play a vital role in everyday life of common persons. People greatly rely on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-enabled applications for navigation to reach their desired destination. However, GNSS navigation performance is highly degraded in urban environments due to the high probability of signal interruption, multipath (MP), and/or non-line-of-sight (NLOS) signal reception. Multipath and NLOS being the major causes of disrupted positioning performance for GNSS in urban environments. The navigation signals encountered various environmental factors they are reflected, refracted, diffracted, and completely blocked by high-roof buildings, bridges, and trees, thus leading to severe uncertainties in position estimation. GNSS system has gained notable advancements in terms of number of satellites, satellite geometry and signal quality. In this paper newly established constellation BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) performance is quantified with respect to environmental changes and compared in terms of positional accuracy. The paper also discussed the innovative current developments and status of BDS-3 in 2023. For this reason, series of field experiments were carried out at clear open and urban environment with BDS-3 and GPS mode during the observation time of 6 hours. The BDS-3 system is configured for data logging and used for the first time at Pakistan region. The positioning and navigation performance of BDS-3 is evaluated by utilizing key performance indicators e.g satellite availability, geometric distribution in terms of PDOP, and statistical accuracy measures (i.e., Circular Error Probable (CEP) and Distance Root Mean Square (DRMS)). The experimental results shows that BDS-3 provides more number of satellites, favorable satellite geometry and reduced position error compared to GPS constellation in clear open sky environment. This paper studies the distributed feedback optimization problem for linear multi-agent systems without precise knowledge of local costs and agent dynamics. The proposed solution is based on a hierarchical approach that uses upper-level coordinators to adjust reference signals toward the global optimum and lower-level controllers to regulate agents' outputs toward the reference signals. In the absence of precise information on local gradients and agent dynamics, an extremum-seeking mechanism is used to enforce a gradient descent optimization strategy, and an adaptive dynamic programming approach is taken to synthesize an internal-model-based optimal tracking controller. The whole procedure relies only on measurements of local costs and input-state data along agents' trajectories. Moreover, under appropriate conditions, the closed-loop signals are bounded and the output of the agents exponentially converges to a small neighborhood of the desired extremum. A numerical example is conducted to validate the efficacy of the proposed method. © 2024 IEEE.

Chimera states are dynamical states where regions of synchronous trajectories coexist with incoherent ones. A significant amount of research has been devoted to studying chimera states in systems of identical oscillators, nonlocally coupled through pairwise interactions. Nevertheless, there is increasing evidence, also supported by available data, that complex systems are composed of multiple units experiencing many-body interactions that can be modeled by using higher-order structures beyond the paradigm of classic pairwise networks. In this work we investigate whether phase chimera states appear in this framework, by focusing on a topology solely involving many-body, nonlocal, and nonregular interactions, hereby named nonlocal d-hyperring, (d+1) being the order of the interactions. We present the theory by using the paradigmatic Stuart-Landau oscillators as node dynamics, and we show that phase chimera states emerge in a variety of structures and with different coupling functions. For comparison, we show that, when higher-order interactions are “flattened” to pairwise ones, the chimera behavior is weaker and more elusive.

It is important to use a reliable maximum power point tracking (MPPT) approach to guarantee that wind production systems are fully beneficial. This paper is discussing the operation principle of adaptive fuzzy logic controllers (AFLC) in double fed induction generator wind turbine. The acquired findings attest to AFLC's superiority over traditional PI control systems. The adaptive fuzzy logic controller has more promising results as compared to old PI controller. The investigation has been done by using MATLAB/SIMULINK 2023a package. The proposed controller has less rising time than conventional PI controller by more the 40% and better power tracking by 32.21%. The results of using adaptive fuzzy logic controller revealed fast time response, high rate of convergence, minimal steady state error, and less overshoot compared to those achieved with conventional PI. These indicators are used to show that AFLC is feasible when compared to other controllers with the same WPP. © 2023 IEEE.
